Pokémon Games Discussion Thread (Gotta Discuss 'Em All!)

However when you S.O.S battle the Jangmo-o, they can add up to a Kommo-o which Kommo-o have a 50/50 chance of holding one.
Ooooh the Kommo-o is 50/50 chance? does Jangmo-o only call for Hakamo-o and Kommo-o?

Has anyone found a HA Pokémon using SOS battles yet? I've not really tried...

Also the ability Compound Eyes increases the chance for a wild Pokemon have a held item.

I have found a Cute charm Stufful to get Unnerve Bewear. After a 30 SOS chain the chances to find a HA increase. Took me maybe 20-30 Stufful to find one that had it (After a 30 chain).

Forgot about that as it goes... if Pelliper still has that Lucky Egg held item rate that'd be great, get my Butterfree to Thief it.

Sounds good, I think I'll try chaining Alolan Vulpix for the Snow Warning HA, bit concerned about the rarity of Ice Stones though...

Kind of annoying that my team has this glaring Rock weakness... I'll have Kommo-o to cover that but it's still a bit of a worry. Emploeon would synergise well with Talonflame but sadly no access to it yet.

Maybe substitute one or two of your Mons for something like Lycanroc or Alola Dugtrio/Sandslash?

I do have a Midday Lycanroc... Dugtrio's double resist to Rock is tempting but gosh does it's design freak me out.

I could swap out Talonflame for Salazzle, drop the double weakness to a single since I have Vikavolt to levitate her 4x Ground weakness and Decidueye to resist it. Makes my team more physical/special balanced that way too... if I really wanted to be a hard**s I'd throw in Metagross, but I think I'm too "play with my faves" to do it.

Very first battle today.

Do you even vgc bro?
Why would I, when the regulations on what Pokemon can enter makes Yugioh sound like a completely balanced game? While I do not agree with some of Smogons bans and clauses at least Smogon tries to make the game balanced.

Well when Smogon gives a cash prize, I'll care. :sly:;)

How do you upload videos?
Connect to the Internet in the Festival Plaza and go inside the castle. Use the PC that's immediately to your right at the entrance, and it's the bottom option in the menu. In the battle video selection screen, a new button shows up. Use that.

Alright, well I uploaded our battle :D

Just out of curiousity, does anyone here play PTCGO?

If not, you should be. It's hands-down the best digital implementation of any card game... better than Hearthstone, better than the various YGO videogames, and leagues better than Magic Online.

The card game itself may not be super complex like MTG, but it's reasonably fun and has enough complexity to it to keep it from being mindless. And if you're used to MTG and how limited card tutoring, card drawing and mana ramp effects typically are (due to how powerful they are), Pokemon TCG can actually be kind of addictive due to how shockingly liberal they are with those kinds of effects.

As a Yugioh player in which plays go massively fast to the point where you can even do things more than your opponent during their turn. Pokemon TCG feels like such a grind :lol;.

I only really collect the Pokemon cards because of a huge Pokemon fan I am and the cards artworks. Gameplay wise, the Energy card system ruins it for me.

I understand why a lot of people like it but I can't get used to something that's relatively slower in comparison to Yugioh.

HA, he said better than hearthstone

1v1 meh bro

In all seriousness, Resh hit the nail on the head, I enjoy games with more strategy to them and PTCG has never been all that great to me. I feel with the break cards for example Pokemon has tried to do various methods to one be different and two be a little more interesting and not so boring or convoluted.

To me PTCG has always been a poor man's MTG, and other games that you a lvl or energy based system like the examples you used, do well. They do well cause they're vastly different and rely on other win conditions where it's pretty generic with PTCG.

Better than Hearthstone in purely an implementation standpoint, not that the core game itself is better... kind of like how I think MTG is a better game than Hearthstone but there's no denying that Magic Online is abysmal to use compared to Hearthstone's interface.

PTCGO's implementation is beautiful. And while Hearthstone is pretty damn good in that regard too, the fact that PTCGO is at its core a paper TCG is what makes me appreciate the quality of its digital implementation so much more. Plus, buying physical product and getting a code for the digital equivalent is just so damn effective.

Yu-gi-oh's a bit too fast for my blood... game's practically over before it even starts. I prefer to have a little back-and-forth interaction in my games. The YGO style of "my deck goes off first so I win" ain't exactly my cup of tea... but casual YGO is fun. :P

I can understand nt liking the speed, in many cases it can be what on earth just happened.

If you want interaction in Yugioh play Paleozoics. Trap monsters which pretty much prevent your opponent from going all solitaire, or run Kaiju monsters that easily get out on some of the pesky monsters. From someone who usual plays Casual Hybrid decks, the "going first so I win" mentality only really applies if you are playing against a competitive deck while you yourself aren't. watched several competitive vs. competitive decks go on for awhile.

I will agree casual YGO is better, playing casually has always been my joy of the game more than being a masochist and facing off against Blue-Eyes with pesky Dinomists

Not to, y'know, turn this into the TCG discussion thread, but yeah... I think to some degree, all TCGs are more enjoyable on a casual level. Which is why I'm fine with playing a lot of TCGs casually rather than devoting myself to one.

That's not to say I'm not interested in learning good strategy and deckbuilding. But I'm not gonna pour my blood, sweat and tears into being the very best at any single game. And not that there's anything wrong with those who do that, but playing against those kinds of people naturally isn't going to be very enjoyable for anyone other than themselves.

I'll look into Paleozoics. All I've got at the moment is a dusty old cyber dragon deck. :P

I only play YGO on the consoles if I'm honest... and usually the decks I make are not competitive in any way. The appeal is that there are SOOO many cards out there, but what puts me off it the fact that to be competitve, you need to stack 2 or 3 of the same card per deck so there only ends up being about 15 different types of card in a deck, and most of the top decks are carbon copies of each other barring one or two different traps or monsters. Even the games are doing this too now, really annoying. At least the games have more variety though...

Well, running multiple copies of a good card is pretty much standard practice among all TCGs... It increases the chances of drawing that card, which presumably you want to do if it's in your deck.

The more variety of cards, the more random your draws, the less consistent your deck will perform. It's also why you generally keep your deck as small as possible... If your deck needs to be at least 40 cards, then your deck should be exactly 40 cards. The more excess cards you add, the more variable your draws.

Just brining this back on topic.

Decided on running a Special Minior. Figured it be something different than the usual Physical Minior plua my Minior has more Sp. ATK IVs :D

So I've stopped my journey at the Altar of the Sunne for a bit, currently at 60 hrs play time... I kinda feel like I should have completed the main game soo much quicker than I have!

@Storm_SP17 Got myself a Snow Warning Vulpix, it's a female so I can breed you one with any egg move you want if you want :P.

Does anyone have the Ice Stone that doesn't need it, I need another one since I already used my Ice Stone on my Sandshrew and there is only 1 Ice Stone per game.

I literally got one before I went to sleep early hours of this morning... but thanks dude! :)
