Pokémon Games Discussion Thread (Gotta Discuss 'Em All!)

Mine started at about 6 levels lower than that... ended up gaining 4 levels from the whole ordeal aside from the Vikavolt and Decidueye, who gained only 2 levels...

Yeah she was the 2nd to last one I fought... kinda see why you get triggered by her.
The flying E4 is the easiest. Xurkitree FTW.

I run my Mimikyu against Hala and Acerola, and Buzzwole for Olivia.

I had nothing for her Mandibuzz except Sandslash and Lycanroc and only my Arcanine could fight Skarmory, took me awhile to take out both :lol:

I have 4 Pokemon that know moves that have a type advantage to Rock (Rock is always the easiest type), most of the Ghost Pokemon were really fragile (only exception was Dhelmise and Palossand) and Fighting was a complete joke, no matter what my friend said about being stuck on Bewear because he lacked Special Fire moves :lol: (my Arcanine did though).

Bewear is an absolute pain with Assault Vest.

Okay guys, so here's an interesting idea for you to ponder...

The Starter Pokémon get the abilities that power up moves of their main type by 50%. Now we can probably agree that these Abilities are practically outclassed by any other Abilities out there either by doing this job better or by being a more useful Ability altogether.

What suggestions would you have for Blaze/Torrent/Overgrow to build upon and improve them and make them an actual viable option to consider?

Greninja is probably the only good Torrent user since it is fragile enough to be hit low enough for Focus Sash so it can take effect much easier but even still, most people (and by that I mean all except me) use Protean or Battle Bond,

I'd say be like Steelworker and get a 50% boost at all times, same goes for the Bug type equivalent Swarm.

Watching the Diamond & Pearl anime and it got me thinking about a potential remake and how excited and nostalgic I'd be for it,

While I've been playing Pokemon since Blue, I played Gen I - III understanding very little as I was 3 - 7 and just rampaging through the game with my starter and catching whatever I saw. I still have memories of them, great ones but Gen IV was the first Gen where I fully started to understand the whole gameplay of Pokemon. I spent more hours on Diamond than in any other Pokemon game, even my favourite Pokemon Black. I started building up teams and making balanced movesets (more so in Platinum though), I loved discovering the post-game area, I probably raised more Pokemon in the post-game than in the main game. The Poke Radar was such a fun way to discover older Pokemon as it worked almost everywhere and you could try it anywhere to find some of those rarer Pokemon. Swarm IMO was at its best. I also loved how some new evolutions were actually kept out of the Sinnoh Pokedex so when you got the National Dex it was suprising seeing more than 10 spots in the Gen IV area still empty and I enjoyed discovering these secret evolutions.

I also love Sinnoh as a whole, it is a relatively large region with a lot of pathways to go into and explore, I'll admit the level of backtracking is atrocious, especially in D/P during the 5th - 7th Gyms you just kept going back and forth, which I'm glad Platinum tinkered with it a little.

Probably my best memory was playing with my brother, we hardly battled since I had my Lv.100 Rayquayza from Emerald (one of my most nostalgic Pokemon that'll never be replaced) and my Empoleon was also on Lv.100 but we constantly traded with each other exclusives (which there was a lot in Diamond and Pearl) as well spent a lot of time in the underground.

Just wanted to share my fun experience with Diamond and while if we do get a remake on the switch there'll be some stuff we can't do anymore like the dual-slot for non-Sinnoh Pokemon but I guess for purely irrational nostalgic reasons,I I'd probably play a whole lot of Diamond :D

However I wouldn't want this remake cycle to continue after a D/P remake, maybe go back to remaking an older gen before heading to Black & White.

With regards to the idea you brought up for Torrent/Blaze/Overgrow (thanks for reminding me of Swarm by the way) being more like Steelworks, I do quite like how that'd turn out competitively. I'd say that, casually, the games would get so much easier if they were of that level of viability.

Personally, I'd like for the Abilities to go one of two ways... either for the Abilities to receive a %age boost based on Level, or for something that would make the Starter-Exclusive Hyper moves more viable: an extra effect of ignoring Recharge. I think a Blast Burn Charizard/Infernape/Typhlosion/Blaziken, Hydro Cannon Greninja/Empoleon and Frenzy Plant Sceptile could be very threatening if you took away the "must recharge" effect via their Abilities... and since you don't get access to those moves til most of the way through the game and until you fully evolve your starter, it doesn't take away from the casual playthrough.

The idea stemmed from how I love that Starters get these type of moves exclusive to them, but hate how unusable they are without some sort of mechanic to make them super viable.

As for the remakes for D/P/Pt... I'd enjoy seeing the continuation of the concept very much! I don't have massively huge memories of those games, I think due to getting them on an R4 card and cheat-coding the living heck out of them. That said, I don't think I've had such an effective Starter Pokémon as I did (Empoleon for me was awesome!!) or fully grasp Natures, Abilities, IVs, Breeding and EV training like I did in Gen IV... I'd definitely like to revisit them in a newer light to see if they can give me the satisfaction I got from playing Gold, White 2 and X/AS.

I'd imagine in the remakes they'd do something like the Delta Episode instead focusing on Giratina and the Distortion World. I don't know, maybe in the remakes, due to the events of Team Galactics action of Dialga/Palkia, like in Platinum, Giratina awakes though this time in a Post-Game story arc.

If it was to be in Generation VII after the likehood of Pokemon Stars, I'd imagine Z-Moves for the Sinnoh Starters and maybe the creation trio. Imagine a really op Z-Move for Arceus where it is Super Effective against all types :lol:

That could be good... I just pondered the idea of the post-game arc being about Cyrus, his disappearence to another dimension and the Ultra Beasts being a tie-in to him. I can't remember whether Cyrus explicitly disappears to the Distorted World or not, but I think you can follow the lines I'm drawing here.

Since the Sun is effectively a star, Moons being natural orbiting satellites, I feel if there was a remake it'd tie to alignment of the sun and moon, or of planets... that said they may just pull an XY and throw out a remake of D/P/Pt.

I honestly hope we return to Alola for the next game, because I don't want Necrozma to be treated like how Zygarde has been treated.

Guys. Remember the global event and do the island scan daily. The reward is worth it.

I would, but I hate syncing with my Global Link so much.

They have the worst system for forgetting usernames and passwords.

So I gave up on Global Link and syncing altogether.

Erm... I can't remember my Global Link credentials, so I haven't bothered with syncing my game. I do mean to do the Island Scans, but I'm a bit lazy with it and don't use the QR scan.

Might do Island Scan after I beat the game... I kinda wanna grab a Cyndaquil, but Pokémon Bank upgrade is round the corner and I have a lot of Cyndaquils on there.

Anyone know if the update to Bank will wipe out your banked mons or not? I'm considering withdrawing them to ORAS just to be safe...

Yeah, the only Pokemon I really targeted in the Island Scan was my Walrein as even though I have it from my Black 2 team ready to be transferred, I did want to try Staller Walrein that ends up making matches way longer than they should. While my Black 2 Walrein still has its role as a buly Special Attacker.

I wanted to give my mixed Typhlosion a go in the new gens, it's more of a homage to the first (and only) Lv.100 I legitimately raised, which was back in Gen II. I either cheat coded candies (Gen I and Gen IV) or straight up never played the games to the same extent as back then...

Naive Typhlosion
252 Spe, 156 Atk, 100 SpA EVs
Burn Up/Eruption -{ F-Thrower back in Gold }
Earthquake -{ Same as Gold }
Wild Charge -{ Thunder Punch in Gold }
Focus Blast -{ Used Dynamic Punch in Gold }

I absolutely want a DPPt remake as well as Battle Revolutuon. Those two games defined my mid-teens.

I was in my mid-late teens by that point. I wouldn't mind a remake of them, would be interesting to see what they would introduce or change compared to the original games. I didn't play Battle Revolution...

Do you guys think the franchise will ever get to a point where they introduce bigger and more Open World version of the Pokémon games? If so, almost to a point where MMO is a possibility?

I feel that the Trials in this Gen are more akin to what a full-on RPG Boss battle is like in other games, given the mechanics of Auras and Z-Moves and whatnot.

Trials were just Wild Pokemon Gyms.

Outside of the Totem Pokemon battles, they aren't that different to Gyms.

Some of the trials were horribly designed, the Water Trial was the most laziest of the bunch, the Electric Trial, they brought the Totem Pokemon to you, and don't get me started on the Dragon Trial :lol:

If there is a Pokemon Stars, hopefully they fix this and give us more interesting trials.

Question about D/P remakes, do you think they'll do the 150 Diamond and Pearl Pokedex or the 210 Platinum Pokedex + Sylveon?

What I found interesting abiut Gen I, is that unlike what we have now most Gen I Pokemon can learn Reflect by TM but most can't know it anymore in Gen III onwards.

Gen I is the only is the only way to have Pokemon like a Reflect Charizard or a Reflect Zapdos since Gen I is the only gen they can know it by TM.

The thing is though, theyre not anything like a Gym Battle... the Grand Trials are, definitely, and yes you get a Z-Crystal after a Trail like a badge of sorts...
but the layout of the Trials pits you against a "buffed" version of a Pokémon and then stacks the odds against you with them being able to call in an ally for them forcing you into a 2v1 fight, and movesets that work to buff oncoming attacks of said buffed Pokémon...

It reminds me of Boss fights in the MMORPG Guild Wars, where a Boss could be super resistant to magic but not so much melee, but their minions would cause blindness meaning 90% of melee attacks miss and the Bosses signature skill causes knockdown whilst blind... all the while having buffed stats and 1% regen per second...

I will say though that the Trials themselves by design and lead-up could have been better (MUCH better in half of cases) but the actual concept and execution of the Totem fights themselves is very well done!

Hence why I said except the Totem Pokemon. If it wasn't for the Totem Pokemon, it might as well have been called a gym. Seriously, swap out the Totem Pokemon with a Trainer and thn its essentially a gym.

Not to mention that since there is only 1 Boss Pokemon in these Totem Battles, all you have to do is Posion or Burn it and then just constantly stall until it dies, especially since Totem Pokemon can't call allies when in affects. What was worse is that before the Dragon trial which was the last one you get the Fairium Z, so you can OHKO the Totem Kommo-o with 4x damage, that was just massive hand-holding.

In my opinion, the trials themselves need to be a lot more different than gyms. They can keep the Totem fights (wish most were harder like Totem Mimikyu) but make the trials more of an adventure instead of being stuck in 1 place (like a Gym) having to do a Quest, Quiz or Puzzle (like a Gym) and then fight the boss.

My bad I skim read, I'm groggy from late night and lack of sleep...

As an initial dive into something different to Gyms, they did well! Remnants of the Gym Battle style are still going to be felt as for 20 years that's how it's been, but yeah if they do this again a lot of old and new fans will love it.

They do definitely need to make it so there isn't that hand-holding issue or to make the Trials just that extra intense leading up to them. I wouldn't necessarily have more Totem Pokémon, but definitely more 2v1 fights leading up to the main one (with as much synergy play for extra toughness) and more active and engaging Trial themes. Mallow's Trial was a good example, as was Acerola's to a degree...

I agree, the themes and build up while not perfect, did feel like theres was a lot of effort being put into those 2 trials.

If there is a Pokemon Stars and they redo the trials, hopefully the other follow suit.

I wouldn't mind 1 more, as I would like to see that artistic Fairy trial being mentioned as under development.

Mentioning the Fairy artistic "in-progress" trial, you do actually make me feel as though another installment for Sun & Moon/Gen VII is likely, kinda more like B2W2 though if you ask me...

If each piece of art was depicting the next phase and location/checkpoint of the Trial in progress, that'd be a nice idea, and centred around collecting pieces of artefacts or whatnot that piece together and open up the Totem Pokémon area.

That level of engagement would be rather satisfying for adults and older teens playing the game and give younger players a depth of problem solving that can help stimulate their minds.

They might just abandon it all together though, look how underdeveloped X and Y was and the promotion material Zygarde had but GF decided to go "lol nope" on Z or X2/Y2. Shoved Zygarde in a thoughtless sidequest that gives us no real info on Zygarde in the games, even though it was meant to have powers that exceed Xerneas and Yvetal.

There is a chance they'd say 🤬 a follow up game and any potential it might have, just insert Necrozma in a silly sidequest for the next generation.

New Global Challenge, I think you need 1,000,000 island scans or something.
Considering how easy it is to do I'm surprised people haven't done it more. Then again, it would be nice to get a dex upgrade too.
