Pokémon Games Discussion Thread (Gotta Discuss 'Em All!)

I don't really have a comp team, more in the lines of when I'm about to battle I just throw in Pokemon that I want to battle
Didn't you say you were gonna build one? I must be confused. Wanna battle a little later?

I said my in-game team was being EV trained

As for a battle, yeah sure, what format? Just to be sure we are on the same page

Now that was just stupid. If I didn't miss the Stone Edge on turn 1, things would've gone differently.

GG. I'll get you some day.

Lilligant would've taken it still :P. I like my Lilligant + Oricorio dance combo too much for it to be taken down to easily

It was a good battle, surprised my Scyther stayed longer on the field than any of my other Pokemon .

That Dancer combo is what brought me down. By the way, the Gigalith would've used Explosion had the Oricorio not been out when my Mimikyu went in.

I was actually saving Arcanine Red Card + Roar for your Mimikyu and UB but it turns out I didn't need it :P.

Though surprised your Gigalith doesn't have Sturdy, you would've gotten away with lots if Gigalith couldn't get OHKO.

Actually, the Gigalith is a sort of offensive-suicide-tank. Meant to soak up blows, set Sandstorm for Kartana/Buzzwole/Lycanroc and then go boom.

Sturdy Gigalith isn't as useful for me.

Once Pokemon Bank gets updated, I'll be willing to battle you again and more often, continuesly warm you up for VGC I suppose, but I want all my Pokemon so I don't use the same Pokemon, over and over and over and over

Seeing how poorly Sun and Moon optimise double battles (at least on older 3DSs) I understand why they took out Triples and Rotation battles. 6 Pokemon probably would've crashed the game

Hopefully they come back when Pokemon hits the Switch :sly:, as it should be more optimized for smoother Triple and Rotation battles. Triples is the only place where my Archeops, Raichu, Audino and Malamar are seen as real threats

Completed the main story last night, I'm now going to focus on catching Pokemon until Bank functionality comes. I caught a total of 5 Pokemon during my 45 hour playthrough.

Has anyone wondered why Z-Moves are actually called Z-Moves in the first place?

Sounds like something from Zygarde but not only is it an Alola thing not a Kalos thing (which involves the Mega Weapon which relates to Xernea/Yvetal), Z-Moves are its own thing, the closest is the power of Ultra Worm holes due to the aura being similar to Ultra Beasts and Totem Pokemon. Especially since Sun/Moon gives us 0 new info on Zygarde apart from his forms.

Seems like Z-Moves really should've just been called Ultra Moves.

When I first heard of Z-Moves, I thought it would have something that involves Zygarde, like how Xerneas, Yvetal and Modernize Mega Evolution came from the Mega Evolution. Not really disappointed that I was wrong more in the lines of confused. We could've had a disaster involving the planets ecosystem and Zygarde put the end of it, using all of its power that is the equivalent of Z-Moves we see today.

In fact what is disappointing is that there is no Zygardium Z.

After 2 Hours of Fishing I caught a Dhelmise, man take longer than I thought

To put in perspective, I found 4 BOTTLE CAPS!!! before I found a Dhelmise.

I guess this means the fishing spot in Seafolk Village (at the Steelix boat) is the best place for Bottle Cap grinding as Bottle Cap finding has been found to be extremely difficult especially since it takes days to get 30 shards.

Meanwhile I found a Dhelmise on my 3rd try... :P

Does anyone have the Snow Warning HA Vulpix or Ninetales yet they're willing to trade me?

I tried doing a lot of chain S.O.S for it to show up but no Vulpix I found had Snow Warning and I eventually gave up.

Hey guys, I'm hoping you can help me out.

My son recently got Omega Ruby and he has Pokemon X for his 3DS. He was trying to describe to me how each release has two titles and the differences and although most of it was over my head, I think I got the gist of it. Anyway, with him having Ruby and X, which game should I get him for Christmas out of the newest release Sun and Moon? Would either of those fit the games he already has or would it not matter?

In terms of Pokemon differences, Sun and Moon are actually extremely low, and you should be able to get most of the missing Pokemon from Sun or Moon in X and Omega Ruby.

I'd say just figure out what cover Pokemon your son likes best and give him that, that's how I decide my version :P

Bank comes out in January, should be noted that in Sun/Moon, you can't breed non-Alolan form Pokemons.

2 Fire Ninetales will make an Ice-type Vulpix baby (and not it won't get any Fire type moves as egg moves).

As a non-breeder, I honestly don't care but I understand why people would be upset with this.

So you can't breed yourself out of using a Drought Ninetales or any of the other non-Alola Pokemon in VGC.

EDIT: You need an everstone to breed non-Alolan Pokekon in Sun/Moon
Wait so do you need the Everstone in order to fulfil the requirements of the non-Alolan variants? Would it have to be held by the female as they dictate the overall species or either/both parents?

Even still, that's veeeeeery very disappointing by the developers.

I'm not sure if it has to be the female that holds it or any can hold it.

Not sure why this is the case, might have to do something with the "met at" discription, which determines whether it'll be an Alolan Pokemon or not and the Everstone bypasses this. Of course the only way to tell if "met at" takes a factor is if a Kanto Pikachu from Gen I evolves into a normal Raichu in Sun/Moon but we'll have to wait until Bank comes out for answers.

A positive side to this at least, is that hopefully you can give alolan Pokemon an HA from non-alolan Pokemon parents.

When you mention that, maybe the game does use "met at" to determine whether the Pokémon hatched is an Alolan or non-Alolan variant because that does kinda make sense, but then I think the case in point highlights a need for refinement. Maybe I was being too harsh earlier, but its an oversight that could have been patched pre-release...

Got my very own Stall Walrein.

252 HP / 128 DEF / 128 Sp. DEF

Ability: Ice Body

Leftovers

Surf
Rest
Stockpile
Aqua Ring

Would a para-flinch moveset (Stun Spore + Air Slash) be any decent for Butterfree, or am I better off using a regular moveset?

You'll suffer, using Aqua Ring over Toxic.
Figured I try something new. Already have my evasion Umbreon as a toxic staller. Not to mention I got my Spheal like this, so I want to make use of it.

Not to mention it can go hand in double battles with HA Ninetales once I get my hands on it, especially since it can know Aurora Veil. 3 x the healing thanks to Aqua Ring and Ice Body with Aurora Veil protection.
