Pokémon Games Discussion Thread (Gotta Discuss 'Em All!)

I only got up to 12 so far with this team:

Golisopod (Life Orb)
Araquanid (Waterium Z)
Guzzlord (Quick Claw)

Trying to rack up wins so I can get the Assault Vest for Guzzlord. I also need to teach it Draco Meteor
Draco has too much recoil imho.

I heavily agree but It's the only Special Attacking Dragon move Guzzlord has, I have no choice

Maybe next game when we get the usual tutors I can actually teach Guzzlord Dragon Pulse.

Guzzlord's attack is better, though...

Only by a slight amount, and I want to balance out Physical and Special attackers. Guzzlord can really be both.

You don't have to make a physical attacker if its attack stat is higher, I think its special attack is good enough (at least for me :P).

Like how my Greninja in my in-game X team is a Physical attacker.

Fair point. Mixed offense?

I could do that for Guzzlord to be mixed but already EV trained it and I'm to lazy to reset right now.

I might have to make Greninja mixed though due to Water Shruiken being a Special move now

Just went up to 15 in the Battle Tree with this team:

Mimikyu (Normalium Z)
Magneton (Eviolite)
Golisopod (Life Orb)

So close , until Volcarona showed up after Mimikyu and Magmortar had a Double KO.

I cleared the base Single and Double Trees.

Granted if I saved Golisopod last, I would've been able to defeat Volcarona since Emergency Exit is a very odd ability, sometimes it goes in your favour while other times it turns against you.

I'm no good at doubles at all, so I'm not going to try that

I'm able to get the Assault Vest now, which is good for my Guzzlord.

Also, I was able to beat the Battle Royal Arena in Master Rank. I find it odd, because I found Master Rank the easiest, there was no Megas, no Z-Moves and a lot of Pokemon were easy to kill.

Tip: Run a UB first. Scoring a kill gets you an important buff. Also try running SD on Mimikyu and use that on its Disguise-break turn.

Problem with Swords Dance Mimikyu is that it's open to being taunted by faster Pokemon. Z-Splash avoids that and also still technically gets a little ATK boost when burned instead of it being completely denied.

I haven't had an issue with my SD Mimikyu.

Ran into it twice recently so I think I'm better off safe.

Besides. it allows my Life Orb slot to got to Golisopod which really does need it right now

Coming to the tail-end of the main story now (or so I think...), I'm really enjoying the story in this game although it feels very linear compared to other games in the series.

Is exploration decent post-game?

There is a decently size path that leads to the battle tree, though the only different Pokemon to encounter during this road are the Ghost Oricorio and Riolu, the rest are all the same. You can take a detour to Resolution Cave where you can find a Light Ball and a Zygarde Cell (the basement looks exactly like Terminus Cave where you encounter Zygarde in X & Y)

With your main Legendary Solgeleo/Lunala you can go back to the altar and go through the portal, you'll enter an alternative universe where everything is what it is like in the other version (time of day and the names of the Altar and Lake (not version exclusives though)), with this, head to the Lake and you receive a Cosmog, allowing you to get 2 of the same Legendary. You can return to your own world

There is a post-game storyling you can go to involving the Ultra Beasts, Looker and Anabel (Fronteir Brain from Emerald), completing it and heading to Ten Caret Hill Meadow will allow you to catch the Legendary Pokemon, Necrozma.

Nice one, sounds relatively decent. I'm still only using a 4 stack right now in my story play-through - nothing else has caught my eye yet.

Alolan Muk - Level 40
Selazzle - Level 40
Primarina - Level 40
Tsareena - Level 40

I'm currently on my way to the alter.

I was the same, when all my Pokemon were on the 40s I only had 4 Pokemon in my team (Alolan Sandlash, Arcanine, Primarina & Lycanroc), it wasn't until the near end of the game that I added Kommo-o and Solgeleo

Has anyone from Europe got Magearna yet? Still waiting for a QR code.

Edit: Never mind, got it now.

Is anyone as disappointed as I was about the wasted Zygarde potential for the games.

It had the typical third legendary appearance as a teaser-like appearance, it was interesting since Zygarde was even weaker than Kyurem in their base form and its type made it completely ineffective against Xerneas & Yvetal.

When Sun & Moon were announced instead of Z or X2 & Y2, I was a little shocked as I felt they could've done more with Kalos but I was fine with the change, especially when Zygarde was getting some sort of treatment in Sun & Moon.

Only for it to be just a silly collectable side-quest cameo, its fine going around collecting them all but Zygarde doesn't feel any special at all.

The only real information we have of Zygarde is from the XY & Z anime and it isn't even canon with the games. We don't even know if it has any real connections to Xerneas and Yvetal outside of design and origins, some sites even just label Xerneas and Yvetal as the Mortality duo and ignore Zygarde.

I want to know about Zygarde in game, I want it to be apart of an amazing story like the Tao Trio and Solgeleo and Lunala were as Zygarde has potential, because right now, outside of power Zygarde feels unimportant at all.

I hope Necrozma doesn't suffer this same treatment.

Make Third Legendaries Great Again!!!

Bank comes out in January, should be noted that in Sun/Moon, you can't breed non-Alolan form Pokemons.

2 Fire Ninetales will make an Ice-type Vulpix baby (and not it won't get any Fire type moves as egg moves).

As a non-breeder, I honestly don't care but I understand why people would be upset with this.

So you can't breed yourself out of using a Drought Ninetales or any of the other non-Alola Pokemon in VGC.

EDIT: You need an everstone to breed non-Alolan Pokekon in Sun/Moon

Gen I & Sun/Moon have to wait until next month.

Also, according to a friend of mine, one of Kommo-o sets in the Battle Tree has SHELL SMASH a move in which it is impossible for it to learn.

They really don't want you to win without having to use Gliscor (which you have to wait until the Bank update for), Eviolite Chansey and Mega Kangaskhan.

So then wait, like the idea is to savor the game and obviously Pokemon Company agree with this sentiment. I don't get why people other than streamers are wanting to speed through various aspects of the game. Pokemon Bank updates are the reason I haven't opened up my game. It was my b-day yesterday and I got the game but I refuse to start it until the bank is available.

Makes my continued breeding on X/Y and ORAS all the more profitable, especially considering I strictly do HA pokemon.

Most of my complaints are because even with the bank, it still is impossible for Kommo-o to know Shell Smash through breeding or othernmeans and you can't transfer items so, all the inaccessible Megas being used is just borderline unfair (unless that is somehow coming with the update but I doubt)

I honestly don't care about stuff being used that will eventually be available once the update is released because at least we are getting them eventually. It's the stuff that even once we get the update it's still locked away is the problem.

As for the people steamrolling through aspects of the game, I guess it comes with time constraints, and they want to spend the little time they have completing the game instead of relishing in it, I think this is why Poke Pelago is now a thing for those people who want be competitive but don't have the time to constantly EV Train and Breed. For me, I like to make all side-areas and side-quests apart of my own post-game since recent games started lacking in it, so I still have stuff to explore after I finish

I still have to go get the three Tapus because of plot and stuff, so I agree with you about the relishing the game thing.

I dont doubt it there were a couple patches in X/Y, or it could be a glitch which Pokemon games are never short on.

Eh post game there was plenty in the previous iterations. If they made patches with some of the legendary/mythical pokemon post game that is the only way I could see more content. I really don't know what people expect though when you blow through the game and then always claim there is nothing post game that can keep you satisfied. Though I don't see the complaint all that often.

It's based on the comparison of Gen IV and V which had relatively massive post-game throughout their games. Gen VI did introduce Post-Game stories but those lasted an hour with nothing to extend the playtime if you wanted to and after that all there was left is to catch some Pokemon and do Competitive Battling things.

Sun & Moon are far better at the post-game than Gen VI though stil not quite ther compared to the previous gens.
