With Nintendo's new instalment making as many headlines as terrorism and it even more popular than the hot dog/ sandwich debate (amazingly) there needs to be a serious discussion about it.

Well, perhaps not a serious discussion, but something needs to be said for or against it.

Personally the more fat, unhealthy gamers pried away from their sofas and forced to exercise to play game rather than just paying to win the better.

Okay, I moved this post from the game thread:

This Oregon player hurt himself in his confusion. Well, actually he was knifed but waved the EMTs away when they arrived because he was still playing.

KTLA Channel 5
“Right after I was stabbed, I continued my mission to Plaid Pantry for my mission for chips and beer,” Baker said. “I basically risked my life.”

The victim made it to the convenience store, where he bought the items and looked for Pokemon, according to a police report obtained by local newspaper The Oregonian.

He initially refused treatment when police arrived at the scene, electing to keep on playing the game instead, the report stated.

I am wondering how long it will be before something serious happens. It is good that they have created a game that gets kid's active and out in the fresh air but there is an inherent risk is going to places you might not have otherwise ever visited just to catch Pokemon. When you are somewhere new you should be more aware of your surroundings not glued to a phone.

Pokemon Go was a very highly anticipated game, and rightfully so, because of the innovation it brought to mobile games and the Pokemon franchise. However, quite a few people seem to ignore the explicit warning that the app gives players on the loading screen, telling them to be alert at all times. There have been numerous reports of strange incidents caused by people not paying attention to their surroundings and other various reasons related to Pokemon Go. Some examples of such reports are:
  • Two teenage boys walking into a stranger's house, who thought they were burglars and promptly shot them dead
  • Two men falling off a 15m cliff while trying to catch Pokemon
  • A man crashing his brother's car in the process of catching a Lapras
  • A massive pile up caused by a person who stopped in the middle of a highway to catch a Pikachu
  • A teenage girl who was hit by a car on a busy highway while playing Pokemon Go
  • A man's house becoming a PokeSpot and attracting nearby players (I'm sorry, this is quite funny )
Obviously, this is not the first time that accidents happen due to people playing mobile games while driving, crossing roads, etc. but never has there been such a large amount of accidents in so little time. This could cause severe consequences in the long run.

Some of those stories are fake, including the freeway pileup for the pikachu.

I'm not a fan of the game, but I also don't think the game is to blame (entirely) for these events. The people playing it need to be cautious, that's really all it comes down to. Whether or not they chose to ignore the warnings and disclaimers is their own fault. The number of incidents may seem unusual and high, but it's simply due to the large amount of people playing it.

I don't think there's controversy. It's just a new app getting a lot of attention and due to the high number of naive users, these things are bound to happen. I wouldn't blame the app itself.

But yeah, there's a thread about this already.

It's all over the news every day here in Greece. I don't know whether it has gained so much notoriety elsewhere, but at least here it has.

Um yeah should probably be doing your job so you don't get a bullet between the eyes rather than playing Pokémon...

Soldiers need some sort of outlet and we can't expect them to work 24/7/365 and still be sharp. Let them have some fun since they are clearly on base somewhere.

Yeah if they are off duty in the base, not as the guy said, on the front line and seemingly manning a machine gun! I'm more worried about his safety being distracted like that.

*funny and incisive pic*

...Holy mother of god, I've lived through those too. Gee whiz. Dancing to the tune of Macarena, going "Whaaaa~haaa" certainly was one of the lowest part of my life. :embarrassed:

I disagree Pokemon GO being the stupidest thing EVER, though. Annoying, to the point of being deadly, sure - but defo not stupid.

Go to Imgur to see the more innovative ways this popularity is being used. The news is just going to report stupid stuff that gets shuffled to other international agencies that can't be bothered as @R1600Turbo puts it. People doing stupid things isn't anything new, it's not the games fault.
