Is anyone else really missing the presence of any Formula One cars in this game? I personally would love to be able to race online in custom-livery Formula Gran Turismo cars (or some other F1 model). More than anything, I think it'd be amazing to see a new 2017+ spec F1 machine in the game, even if it were a generic representation. Sure, Codemasters' F1 2017 was a great release, but GT still offers a different experience with better physics, a livery editor and different tracks.

Sure, but you really could add a lot of appeal for F1 fans in GT Sport by adding just one F1 car, since it could be customized by players to have any real or fictional livery. Combine that with GT Sport's superior physics and alternate track selection, and I think you'd potentially get an amazing new experience that isn't available through any current F1 game. To be honest, I'm surprised by the percentage of people that are legitimately opposed to the idea of adding one car.
GTS's physics are not significantly better or worse than F1 2017s, and are well behind two other titles on the PS4 that have Formula cars (and a good range of them across different classes).

Quite frankly I think it would end up being another Rally, a niche that PD doesn't get and doesn't manage to do justice to.

I'd rather see it focus on GT racing, after all it is Gran Turismo - where do you think that name comes from? In particular all the tracks that the Blancpain GT series runs on - still lots missing.
Not the only meaning of GT, and given the series roots and the race to road ration of the very first title in the series being named after GT road cars is far more likely.

Yes really, only Interlagos and Suzuka would be acceptable to me because it would somewhat resemble reality. 21 races on the calendar and there's only 2 f1 tracks in GTS?
GTS has three tracks that are currently graded as suitable for F1 events, Interlagos, Suzuka and Nurburgring GP all are FIA Grade 1 tracks).

However I agree that even with a 50% increase up to three its still far too few for F1. Then again we have Ovals without a single dedicated oval car, so why not F1 with bugger all tracks!

I would like to see some F1 cars, preferably a mix of old classic and new ones.
But how would they be rated? i'm assuming Gr.F, Gr.F1 or Gr.X ?

Gran Turismo: noun. a high-performance model of automobile
Actually, - production based, 2 or 2+2 seating performance and luxury vehicle.

So...
This all started with a racing category.
A grand tourer (Italian: gran turismo) (GT) is a performance and luxury automobile capable of high speed and long-distance driving. The most common format is a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement.

In order for manufactures to get a leg up, the rules would get stretched, and, eventually the series mandated that "x" number of the race vehicle be made available for public sale... thus - Grand Touring Homologated made a household name by the Ferrari 250GTO (GTO = Gran Turismo Omologato = Italian translation).

So, why we have vision cars buses and a gocart is beyond me... even tho I'm not a fan of the rally in the game, at least they fit - production based, 2 or 2+2 seating performance and (maybe not so much) luxury vehicle...

In the end, if GT Sport includes F1, a tonne of rally, figure 8 with Buses and limo's... space ships and marching bands... that'll be just fine... however "I" would prefer they deal with the issues we all discuss (online peanlty system, additional tracks etc.) rather than add F1.

I'm not sure what the point of F1 in GTS would be. Lobbies perhaps, but there aren't any avenues to use even Gr1 cars in the game now except in lobby or custom races. I would rather see some Sport Mode Gr1 or GT Leagues Gr1

I'd be suprised if they didn't. "Lewis Hamilton" is a brand in the brand central. Would not make sense to not put his F1 car in it some day.

And the Formula GT is a part of the GT history

There are so many cars that have no reason to be in GTS or in previous GT's...

Are the physics in F1 2017 that good? I didn't know. I know the GTS physics fall short compared to a few other sims that have made it to console in recent years (I absolutely love driving the Ferrari SF70H F1 car in one of those), but I had assumed codemasters' F1 games were still noticeably more arcade-y. My mistake if that isn't true.

I don't think PD could do F1 justice either if they tried to incorporate it like they did with Rally, especially since we do already have F1 2017. I don't really want to see a half-baked attempt at representing F1, but that's exactly why I'm down for a single F1 car added to the game. A single car is just a car — anything beyond that becomes an underwhelming representation of the sport (in an FIA affiliated game!), and an annoyance for those who find it uninteresting compared to other bulk content they want to see.

I don't think GTS will do anything that even remotely competes with F1 2017, because again, both titles are affiliated with the FIA. However, I don't think a single F1 car qualifies as competition with a dedicated F1 game. And despite the fact that a car is not a huge amount of content for PD to produce, I think it would actually add a lot to the game by offering open wheel racing in arcade or online. Couple that with GTS' different selection of tracks from other titles, and the presence of a livery editor for personalizing the cars (or mimicking any famed real world livery), and I don't believe it creates redundant content in the context of all currently available games.

I genuinely believe that introducing an F1 car would give a good portion of the playerbase something valuable and new, while creating an additional selling point for the game and holding it even more true to what Gran Turismo has always been — a love letter to driving and motorsport. And again, at the end of the day... it's just a car. I wouldn't think it would significantly detract from the arrival of other content planned for the game.

Neutral
Enjoyed having the F1 cars in GT5 & GT6, but rarely used them, just as I rarely use the Gr 1 cars in GTS.
Generally prefer the racing Gr 3 & 4 type cars.

To be honest I really couldn't care less either.

However I voted no, simply because it isn't really needed, as if I've ever wanted to race official F1 machines I've got the official F1 game, and with F1 2017 being fairly comprehensive in it's selection of both current on older F1 machines, there's even less of a point to add them to GTS for me.

If anything I'd much prefer the return of the Formula GT, or even something like the older Polyphony 001 and 002's from GT3, as they'd be much more apt and welcome, as then you could have close, single class formula racing. Though of course something like the FGT would have it's own Gr. class, something like Gr.F or Gr.O or something along those lines.

Otherwise i wouldn't really care if official F1 machines were added, would just think the time and resources could be spent on adding a "better" choice of car(s) so as to speak.

With the livery creator we just need some joined up thinking from PD. There are many classes like LMP2, 911 Cup, Super Formula, F3 etc., that can provide great single class racing, with many hundreds of real world liveries to create variety. We don't always need cars to fit into existing classes, variety is needed both online and in single player.

Not really, but it's still quite a fun sim, because of the career and licensed content. Physics in Assetto Corsa and possibly Project Cars 2 (I don't know, I don't have it) is much better, though.

Well, I meant to ask if they're good as in are they really so close to GTS. Personally, I think GT Sport's physics are pretty impressive. Very similar to GT6, but everything somehow feels a little more natural and refined to me. The cars still seem a little weird on the absolute limit, but I'm so used to the way it's been in previous GT games that I've really not had any trouble driving fast without assists. I wish it were as good as Assetto Corsa, but ah well. I'm just going to be impressed if F1 2017 is very close GTS.

Sorry I missed your reply.

The physics in F1 2017 are ok, but it then depends on what you compare them to.

Are they in the same ball park as AC or PC2? Not at all.

Are they in the same ball park as GTS? Yes.

They are both OK physics engines that make a fair attempt to both recreate reality while heavily flattering the user. They are both, in terms of the better Sims around, about five years behind the curve.

Formula E might be interesting...
Forza beat them to the punch on that one, they had the cars and an esport event back in 2016.

The issue for me with GTS including modern Formula cars of this nature is the complexity of correctly modeling all of the hybrid and electric drivetrain systems, so far on console only AC has managed that.

I'd want F1 in the game because I want GT to span everything from the WV bus to the F1 racer. Heck I'm at the point where I'm actually fine with the VGT cars now.. not that I still don't have a problem with the whole 'reality' vs 'silly videogame' thing but with the huge downgrade in the number of cars in GTS I'll take anything at this point. I'd say the same with race tracks, too. I don't care if they're fantasy tracks or real world tracks, just add them to the game. Add anything PD please!

I think the LMP1 are fully replaceable to have the feeling of playing an F1 car. There are many options. It is enough for PD to have a little more effort and to bring the P1 Cars of the IMSA Series (DPi) and the cars of the WEC series.

I do not know what they are waiting for. I think it's much better to bring LMP1 cars than VGTs or F1 cars.

I prefer they put cars that span from 1950's to 2013.

They would do a better job than codemasters annualized crap.

I think that's a fair comment about the physics

I'm not sure I would like to see a whole category of cars that can't be tuned, neither painted with our own liveries, unless we're talking about FGT cars, in which case I'm all for it since those would likely be able to be customized.

I would like to see an older V8 or V10 F1 car in GT Sport. In fact it would be great to see some junior category open-wheelers.
+1.
I'd also be OK with fictional models, in case PD wants to bypass any manufacturer's requests. RaceRoom did that with the the X-17 (modern chassis and tires + V10 engine):

raceroom-racing-experience-formula-x17-preview-6-jpg.191095

..and the Formula Junior:

Besides the FGT they should just make a fictional version from each era...

F3000TA

F3500TA

maybe even an F5000TA!!

etc etc.

Forza 7 has one representative car from each decade, why not GTS?

I'm not against F1 cars in the game per say, particularly not retro ones but I've got zero interest in modern F1 cars. I like the sport itself although not as much as I used to but moreover GT has an identity for road cars and race going road cars in the main so I'd like this to continue. There are many road/race cars I'd prefer to see in the game before a single F1 car (BTCC, DTM etc..)

Aside from all that, more tracks please...

I would very much like to see an F1 presence in GT Sport like previous games as I am an F1 fan as well but we would need some
more world tracks that would suit F1 cars better than the current track roster in my opinion.

Hopefully that is one of the future plans for a new DLC.

IMO the poll option should be "yes" or "it make no difference to me" rather than "no". Just because a car group is an option in the game people who do not wish to drive F1 cars would not be required to drive F1 cars.

I wouldn't mind seeing the return of the Formula Gran Turismo, if only to be a more modern counterpart to the F1500T-A. After all, I recall that the Formula GT was modeled on a combination of early-2000s racers. But I'd also like to see the Senna cars (including the Lotus), and the Ferrari F1 cars potentially return in a future installment, too.\

Either way, as it stands, we do seem to have a combination of cars that somewhat fill the niche of a F1 car - there are the two Red Bull cars, as well as the F1500. Just look at all the F1 liveries people are making for the Red Bull cars...
