PD are talented programmers but I just can't wax eloquent about the graphics in GT6 while we still are subject to car models straight from 2004. :yuck:

I don't know man, Xbox has more ram but yet Forza ain't got weather and day/night transitions. Nor does any other console racer if my pathetic memory serves me right.

Or maybe Kaz knows the dark arts and is teaching it at Hogwarts.

Stop it with that ram. There's absolutely no reason to not have daytime cycles on variations of tracks but we still didn't get any. Just look at GTA 5. It has EVERYTHING. Now that is what I call technical wizardry.

GTA 5's cars at least also look nowhere as good as Gran Turismo 6, nor does it have to worry about realistic physics. But I will admit it's a great game.

And no I will not stop with ram.

Dodge Ram, St Louis Rams, broken ram, dusty ram, ram rod, Rambo.

As much as I would love to say PD is better than Naughty Dog, I can't. Naughty Dog puts out Game Of The Year QUALITY titles that don't disappoint from the moment the game fires up the first time. (Uncharted 1,2,3 and The Last Of Us) I can't even fathom what Uncharted for PS4 will be like

GT5 and GT6 has been nothing but disappointment, glitches, bugs, missing content, screen tears, poor online code... don't think I need to continue.

Only reason I'm not on other racing sims these days is the lack of funds to build a gaming PC and Project CARS hasn't been released on PS4. But I need to get my racing fix so I'm stuck with GT6 and all it's downfalls so far.

Well PD ain't perfect, hell no studio is perfect, but damn they do make sexy car games!

Man GT really grinds your gears huh LV?

Believe it or not I actually love GT haha. I've played every one since GT1 and even though I really didn't want to buy GT6, I did. But you know, the biggest fans are the harshest critics. I really just want GT to get better, but they need to hear it in order for that to happen.

Look at the features that were added based on fan feedback. Guarantee a lot of that came from these forums.

Yeah GT does have it's annoyances that get me.

Like last night I found out that my R8 LMS Ultra's rear end switcharoo problem seemingly disappears altogether when I put on strong steer assist.

Really PD?

 I think you'd be better off not playing GT6 if it aggravates you that much.

I've actually drastically cut my playing time due to the amount of glitches and bugs. I only get on to mess around with a few close guys, usually until the clutch model puts me in neutral one to many times and I blow a head gasket.

Of course. And you also had to go into system settings to select for using component. I saw several set-ups where people had a green game screen with component, similar to the green screen in PAL territories when watching a DVD through RGB scart.

The main point I was making was not about Component - the best picture on PS2 regardless of 1080i.

I was meaning to allude to the fact that many people just used a composite cable, rather than RGB scart, a simple upgrade of cable that cost very little. I felt that it made a big difference to the visuals.
In the US the component av cable retailed for like $50, not what I would call inexpensive. Though back then HDTVs were very expensive so I guess it evens out. SCART wasn't used in the us as far as I know, those could have been less expensive.

Really? Are you serious? Did you watch on an actual HD tv or are you talking about setting it to 1080i on a non HD TV or with the default composite cable.

On a HD TV set at 1080 it looked really bad much worse than when set to 480P. In 1080 it had a serious cross hatch i.e. screen door effect. In other words it was like you were watching the game while looking through a screen door. Not good at all.
I actually played it in 1080i on my ps2 before posting that. so yes I believe that it looked great. How could it not look better? Its high rez on a crisp HDTV vs composite on a crappy tube tv.
And though it isn't part of the discussion it looked even better on a ps3 with smoothing turned on.

Their technical wizzardry comes at a huge cost though. In GT6 we have a lot of aliasing (jaggies) which ironically ruins the look of the graphics. I'd much rather they run the game at 720P/30 & give us lots of anti aliasing for a better overall experience.
I wish I had jaggies, to be honest. All I see if a screen slathered with AA, making everything look fuzzy - in replays. In race, I have no time to count pixels. I just race.

"Hey PD the graphics are fantastic but the sounds really need work"

"Ok i will give better graphics and real stars!"

Translation problem?

PS4 will be no better, they will just do the same and push it too far for that.
I wish they'd concentrate more on framerate but framerate doesn't look good on the back of the box and TV adverts does it!

Something happened at PD after GT4 and my bet is it was Kaz's "racing career"

Naughty Dog are technical wizards!

End of discussion. 👍

Well it is true that it looks better on a HDTV at 1080 than on a SD TV with composite, but try it at 480p on that HDTV and it looks much better than it does at 1080. Also if you pay close attention you can tell that even in 480p there is some screen door effect but not nearly as bad as in 1080 mode. I would imagine the problem is that there just are not enough pixels in the display signal to show a full 480p but more than what is needed for 480i

The Last of Us had a lot of issues.... Issues that have never been corrected.
Naughty Dog is a talented studio, one of the best but when it comes to follow their games, they are (very ?) bad

Podi, that's how they will work now : main features on the disc, the rest via update. Personally, I like their new method.

The problem with only having the main features on the disk is there are still quite a few people that do not have the bandwidth or the internet itself to make use of the update / new features. Really they are only purchasing half a game.

You monster, you forgot 3 classics.

Crash Bandicoot 1
Crash Bandicoot 2
Crash Bandicoot 3

Next they do the impossible(or so it was thought) and create a game that achieves 1080 resolution on PS2.
That's because it was, in fact, impossible; and neither GT4 nor Tourist Trophy run at anywhere near 1080. They don't even run at the "it's technically 1080 even if it's not 1920" that GT5 and GT6 do. Related to that:
I actually played it in 1080i on my ps2 before posting that. so yes I believe that it looked great. How could it not look better? Its high rez on a crisp HDTV vs composite on a crappy tube tv

Because it's not high resolution. It's pretty much the same resolution with some clever image rendering used to double the lines shown on screen and trick the television into thinking it's 1080i (that's also why some more modern LCD and Plasma TVs have trouble accepting the signal, particularly when it changes resolution back to 480p in the menus and especially when playing with the PS3). It also suffers heavily from the graphical degradation HBR-Roadhog was mentioning earlier (the screen door effect) as well was problems with color dithering (especially in on screen overlays) and plenty of screen jutter as a result of the trick; for very little benefit over just using 480p (which has none of the image or TV compatibility problems and much less screen judder).

It did slightly exceed what the PS3 is able to do but it just makes me imagine what they can do with the PS4 without the limits.
If they exceeded the limits of what the PS3 is able to do, why couldn't they end up doing the same with the PS4?

If only I could actually read so e of the gauge displays in GT.. I wish they were as bright as the Pagani up top but unfortunately it ain't so..

How could it not look better? Because it's shining a harsh light on the deficiencies.

Games usually look best when displayed on something faithful to the era. Or when adequate compensations are made. Metal Slug looks remarkably similar on my old crt and on my plasma, but only because of the smoothing and scan lines options. Remove the scan lines and it looks terrible on the plasma. For GT4, I'd take s-video or component to my crt over hdmi to my plasma for sure. Sometimes I deliberately go with whatever is going to do the worst or least upscaling for the plasma, because a game needs the blur factor. I have a Gyruss arcade machine, and I would never turn the focus knob to the sharpest. There's a point where there's just the right amount of "fudge factor"

Look at GTA Vice City as well. It has a widescreen option. Better right? Well, not really. Due to the era of development (an era when widescreen was not common place), the widescreen option actually cuts the view. Therefore, 4:3 is a better way to play.

I disagree on every point. I hate smoothing and fake scanlines in retro games. crisp unaltered pixels are just so nice looking. Anyway people saying that GT4 is better in lower rez are crazy and wrong sad misguided people. I pity them all.

But with GT6 specifically, it seems they were trying to make a PS4 game and had to cut it back to fit into an archaic system.

still progressing into the game (80+%)... these are exactly my thoughts too ... GT7 has been in development for 3 years already too ... Kaz promised a GT6 ... he held on to that promise ... but in the meantime he was already busy with PS4 specs (... not his racing career) ... as he got the chance to be involved with the architecture of it ... ever looked at the boardmembers of PD? ... http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/

Think they perfectly know where they are heading ... a booster for PS4 ... waiting for the right moment ....

Next November perhaps?

(at CES manufacturers are already presenting 4K screens that are becoming affordable ($999))

I am seeing almost no aliasing in GT6 - I used to dread taking photos where rain was on the track or on a rally circuit - that's no longer the case, well, very rarely it is.

I will say though that I've seen what looks like jaggies when lining up a photo, but once I've pressed that 'X' the result is all smoothed over - same for wheel arches.
