Porsche's Contract With EA

How much would you pay for GT7 To Get Sub-License for PDI to add Porsche's To Gran Turismo 7?

  • I'm PORSCHE CRAZY! I would Pay $89.00 For GT7 to Get Sub-License From EA to add Porsche to the game!

Would it really be that big?

I mean it'd get a bit of interest but it'd not be huge because... well, EA, T10, SMS et al already have Porsche so I imagine it being only of serious interest for GT fans.

Yes, big for GT fans not that much for the general public. Apologies I should have clarified more on that. I believe GT would give it the attention to detail it deserves. Plus I'd like to compare the 911, GT3, GT3 RS etc. that said it won't be the end of the world if they don't have it. :-))

I get the impression that (like a lot of things that make zero sense) PD and Kaz don't give a 🤬 about including Porsche, or even making much of an effort to include them. It's honestly mind boggling as Porsche has the richest and most prolific motorsports history of any automaker in human history. And yet they're not included in the best gaming console driving simulator. Makes little sense. More people across the world track their Porsches than any other make, and yet we get the shaft.

One reason I feel that PD doesn't care at all is what they've done recently with RUF. The RUF fleet in the GT series has languished. They increased the RUF offerings for GT5 but they were all standard cars. And then for GT6 they just copied over the same standard cars from GT5. They couldn't be bothered transferring any of those cars over into Premiums or even add new models. GT5 came out 4 years ago. And the newest RUF we have is a 00MY, which means the newest RUF we have access to is now 16 years old. So while it would be great if we could get an updated RUF fleet, that still wouldn't do any good regarding the hundreds, if not thousands of racing Porsches we cannot drive.

As a lifelong Porsche fan and (now) owner, it's all very sad and unfortunate. And now here are a few treats; photos from last year's Porsche by Design exhibit:

I paid like $20 in Forza 4 for the Porsche DLC... in GT6/7 I doubt to do it, all Porsches should be premium and sound like cars...

come on guys, PD has license for a multiple of manufacturers and most cars available in GT6 are just recycled from previous iterations

Sure did. Please, feel free to point out where I missed the reasons PD hasn't updated the RUF fleet.
I think he means where you mention

PD and Kaz don't give a 🤬 about including Porsche, or even making much of an effort to include them.

Because they do. Kaz has said in interviews that he wants Porsche, most definitely.

And they did have a GT3 (996.2 maybe?) Locked away in GT3's files. But that's another story...

It's honestly mind boggling as Porsche has the richest and most prolific motorsports history of any automaker in human history.

Eh... maybe not. It would maybe have worked if you said "In modern history" but you didn't. So... no. What brings you to say this anyw-

As a lifelong Porsche fan and (now) owner

I guess you already answered that one...

Haha, come on mate. The era of the automobile is modern history. I'm not some stupid fanboi; if you think another marque has a more prestigious total body of motorsports worth than Porsche I'll entertain the discussion. My only guess would be Ferrari is what you'd counter with.

As to your other comments, actions speak louder than words. Kaz saying he'd like to include Porsche doesn't mean much. There's very little reason for him to have said instead "no, I don't want Porsche". Still no reason why the RUFs have been withering on the vine either. :yuck:

Dont forget Bentley, Bugatti, Alfa... basically the ones racing since before even the Beetle.

Actions, as I said, have been found. GT3 996.2 in GT3, of course licensing will have stopped that happening properly...

And that's the same for many cars, I mean they've got many great cars to make premium, not just RUF.

Bentley had a great racing pedigree...for a very short time period. Same can be said for Bugatti. Alfa is better than both of those marques but hasn't had a ton of motorsports activity in the modern modern era (thanks to Fiat)

I contest Ford being #1, but otherwise the list is what I expected. I'll refrain from further replies though, I've derailed this thread enough.

As has been mentioned in response to you, Kaz is a fan of Porsche, and has owned at least the one that was hidden in Gran Turismo 3, which is what my response was about. The stuff about no RUFs less than 15 years old isn't really relevant when the thread is about Porsche and EA's exclusive licence, although I agree that more RUFs would be a great addition. I've already stated my opinion in the thread, and it's that I'm not a fan of Porsche, and I wouldn't be happy if we got them for a huge price. They just aren't worth it.

Let's move on topic shall we?

I presume you went off (ignoring a lot of my post) for no good reason. So... back to why you think PD hasn't tried to get Porsche in GT. Explain?

the crux of my argument was that if Kaz's efforts to get Porsche in the game have failed, that the best alternative would be a beefed up RUF line up. It's a logical train of thought, though based on the assumption that PD and RUF are still in good standing.

Porsche, and EA, will have had a hand in failed attempts from PD, no doubt.

The RUF point would only really be viable if they have explicitly said they didn't want to improve the lineup, but we don't know what happens behind closed doors. So, they could be working on it for GT7. We can speculate but with PD being as introverted as they are, we just don't know.

I'm curious, do we know for a certainty that Porsche has an exclusive arrangement with EA? Does someone have some relevant proof of that beyond rumour and speculation? How do we know Porsche isn't just asking a lot of money and EA is the only one willing to pony up the dough?

This article is three and a half years old, but it's probably still accurate. The people we need to convince are Porsche, as EA will want to keep their "advantage", and PD have no say in the matter unless Sony increase their budget.

Thanks for the link but it's not 100% convincing IMO, he's just saying it as if it's a fact, just like everyone here is. It may indeed be true, but I'm not 100% convinced unless I see it from either EA or Porsche.

I do find this funny though:

If Porsche wanted to repair this situation they easily could. EA may have a sweet deal with the German automaker, but it's costing ze Germans the affection of prospective buyers and ultimately hurting their brand

It's too bad that Porsche, the most profitable automotive manufacturer in the world (per vehicle), doesn't realize that an internet blogger knows more about branding and generating buyer affection than they do.

There's a rumor that EA will discontinue NFS Series after the final NFS game in which will probably be released in this november is released and then Porsche will finally be liberated.

.....................Seriously?? Can't see EA killing off NFS series. At all. A soft reboot, maybe. Should take rumors with a healthy dose of ....salt.

More like a dose so unhealthy it could kill you...

Well, some people says it's because NFS Games are dying and not being so successful like the older NFS games did 1994-2006 and some says that NFS Games are not giving lots of profits to EA like before.

Yup, it's the glory of modding, and also perfectly legal because the mods are free, not sold, so no licensing required, just like with liveries and such...

So how is that not being stopped yet this happened?

EnduRacers Modding Team is sorry to announce that after having been contacted by Porsche AG, the Porsche GT3 Cup Series mod project will not be released to the public. We thank you for your support during the development.

Keep in mind, that modding group also does that mod for free with no sales and no licensing with liveries and all. Seems to tell me that in actuality, Porsche will come after anyone whenever they want to.

Can't remember the exact post (its very old), but someone actually emailed Porsche regarding this and they themselves mentioned that they had an exclusive arrangement with EA.

Typically EA there. If it isn't selling don't make better games, just kill the series. Hey, it worked out for NASCAR games

I'm also finding forum posts where people have explicity asked Porsche (either directly or via email) why they aren't featured in other games, One of which is here.

Edit: Wow, I cannot believe what I just found:

Porsche: End the "exclusive" licensing rights with Electronic Arts

I remember making a joke about this some time ago but good grief, someone actually made it happen.

Doesn't say anything about EA, might be just Porsche protecting their brand and they made enough noise to get noticed. I have 3 or 4 Porsches in my AC stable already from smaller modders but publicly available to anyone.

That petition is so poorly worded it's laughable. If anyone at Porsche ever saw it, I'm sure it gave them a good chuckle:lol:
