Porsche's Contract With EA

How much would you pay for GT7 To Get Sub-License for PDI to add Porsche's To Gran Turismo 7?

  • I'm PORSCHE CRAZY! I would Pay $89.00 For GT7 to Get Sub-License From EA to add Porsche to the game!

It's not Porsche that I'm frustrated with, It's EA
IF they wanted, they could negotiate again the terms of their agreement and in doing so, gaining major visibility in more gaming contexts.
Man, EA hasn't made of porsche such of a precious thing. All they do is just put 4 to 8 car per game and be done.
Honestly, i'm not surprised they still haven't put a porsche in any of their Battlefield games ( look at the big possibility with hardline.) or medal of honor. i'm amazed.

Need For Speed Underground 3 is coming so EA really needs the Porsche, always hated EA for this reason and regardless if Underground 3 is an amazing game, it's still a very sad and desperate move to attract the consumers.

It'll attract the 12 year olds that still think a fart can on a rusting Honda civic is cooler than a C63 AMG. EA is a cash cow sadly
You realize that in business, being a cash cow is a good thing right?

What is sad or desperate about having exclusive access to one of the top marques in the entire world? Exclusivity and product differentiation are a couple of the cornerstones of many successful businesses. You think PD wouldn't take exclusive access to Ferrari or Lamborghini or Nissan if they could get it?

Not too sure about that Johnny, Kaz never thought of having an exclusive manufacturer to GT by making a contract deal and taking cars away from other games, he just doesn't swing that way in my opinion.

Need For Speed has been outsold by a number of other racing games over the past decade, It's obvious that the Porsche licence is not really worth it, why EA is still trying is beyond me.

As obvious as something can be without knowing anything specific about it, yes.

I won't ask for a link to, "Kaz never having though of having an exclusive manufacturer deal":lol: How do you explain the VGT program then? Is it not going directly to manufacturers to create cars exclusive to GT? By your logic then they should start showing up in other games soon because Kaz would never keep them to himself. By the way, when does GTAcademy start on Forza:confused::sly::sly:

Outsold you say? They are still selling 2-3 million of each version of the game last I read. At around 13-14 games in the last 10 years, that means they likely sold more units than GT or Forza but quite some margin. If I was moving 20+million units in 10 years I'd be pretty happy overall and quite happy to continue paying Porsche to maintain those sales.

Good for EA. Bad for everyone else who wants a chance at racing games.
Of course, that's EA's goal after all. Would be mine too if I were making racing games.

I think you would make a better work than EA's.
I really don't understand the fact they wanted to ensure every Porsche model, i mean, it's not like they will put a 917 in a game anytime soon, won't they?
Second i'm really starting to think that maybe it's not EA that wants Porsche in their game, maybe the reverse.
I know that sounds nonsensical, but a million dollars worth loyalty just to put 3 to 5 cars per game? :dunce:

I understand EA's movtivation for doing this from a business standpoint and I find it ludicrous that people decry EA for doing what every single business that exists wants to do, gain exclusive control over segments of the market. Do you think Apple doesn't want to destroy all Android phone makers? That doesn't mean that I don't want Porsche in every game I play, I've been a Porsche fan since the first day I laid eyes on one, I just don't let my emotions get the better of me in analyzing or understanding the situation.

But we're talking about Porsche, not GTA or VGT. Plus, VGT vs. Porsche is fantasy vs. reality. What other game wants the VGT cars anyway? I doubt people are clamoring over the lack of VGT cars on the Forza or PCars forums, but if they were, I'm sure you could produce a link. :P

I was more responding to this assertion:

The VGT program contradicts this in a major way, in fact, even moreso that EA+Porsche. PD went out of their way to gain exclusive access to 30 cars from 30 manufacturers and went so far as to have the cars actually built. Whether we like them or not is irrelevant because I'm referring to the behaviour of PD creating a monopoly on certain cars by design which @Shirrako thinks Kaz would never do. Obviously that's incorrect.

I think the VGT case is different because those cars were specifically designed for GT. Much like the other fantasy cars developed by PD (or the Ruf designed by SMS in Project CARS). Nobody expects those to appear in other games because they were designed specifically to be in one game (series). It's different for real world brands/models because they're generically available, especially after they have been available in several games in the past.

The VGT is designed by Polyphony and manufacturers, those are their own cars so that is a completely different case.
Take BMW for example, they couldn't put the VGT car in Forza for one reason, they do not fully own all the rights to the car, the design was created by Polyphony and they can do whatever they want with the VGT project, even let others use the cars, which is probably not going to happen, just look at the car names, Vision Gran Turismo.

This is actually a great example, instead of paying actual car companies for exclusive cars, PD makes the cars themselves, I would advise NFS and Forza developers to take notes and do what PD is doing, each franchise should have their own "Vision" cars, without taking away actual cars such as Porsche from everybody else. You mentioned EA+Porsche, there is no such thing as EA+Porsche, it's basically EA throws money at Porsche and Porsche obviously loves the cash, they don't work together on creating any cars or designs.

Yes, Outsold, NFS is released across all platforms and only manages to sell 2-3 million, that is pretty bad for a franchise with so much history, Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3 only sold around 11mil+. Forza games usually sell around 1-4million on a single platform, so there you have it.

You are totally missing the point on sales. If it's on one platform or 10, 20 million units means they are raking in cash, to even suggest that that is unsuccessful is ludicrous.

More platforms mean more work, more work means a bigger budget.
Weren't we talking about Porsche's licence? you're actually attempting to raise a valid arguement and convince me that the Porsche licence is going to help EA sell a lot more copies of NFS games? No, you can keep trying to come up with something, just no.
Instead of bribing Porsche they could put that money to smaller companies and make the car roster much larger, it's common logic.

Don't get me wrong, I love Need For Speed, but regardless of the game, the way they handle the Porsche situation is sad, I would hate PD if they bribed Nissan too.

EA's common logic has them moving over 100 million units. In your estimation, switching out Porsche and adopting a generic car company that everyone other game has, is better for them than having the exclusive rights to one of the top marques in history?

So they moved 100 million units thanks to Porsche?
They could still have Porsche in the game without having to pay millions for the licence, more cars in the game and Porsche, lower budget aswell.

Need For Speed Underground 1 & 2 are probably the most praised NFS games among fans, guess what? they don't have a single Porsche in them. (excluding mods)

NFS is where it is because of Porsche's licence? Ok 👍

So instead of leveraging vehicles people know about through some sort of outside popular source and will actively seek out to experience in a game, they should spend their time making up cars that have about an optimistic 50% take rate regarding whether people even remember that they are in the game after their specific events are completed?

And since your asking for clarification of the things Johnnypenso is saying:

You know how much the licencing terms are? Source?

You know that not having Porsche exclusive would mean more cars overall? Source?

You know that the Porsche licence is specifically included into the budget for each Need for Speed game, even though they aren't only featured in NFS games and are EA-wide? Source?

Im pretty sure VGT cars are NOT exclusive though. The 2nd VW VGT car got patched into DriveClub a few weeks ago.

VGT cars are exclusive, first hand concept cars made realistically for GT, but some of the ideas from GT are being converted into real life models. There is a difference between the Volkswagen GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo and VW GTI Design Vision. However it is good to see that the Vision GT project is actually producing actual real-life concepts ideas for production.

Are you serious?

That's not...the same...thing.

GT6: Volkswagen GTI Supersport Vision GT
Driveclub: Volkswagen GTI Design Vision

I'm seriously failing to see how people mistake that for this:

Is the rear wing seriously not enough of a giveaway?

Forza Horizon 2 is getting a Porsche expansion pack, does this mean EA no longer have an exclusive deal with them not playing ball for Forza 5, or have Microsoft paid up again?
