The mods all get these:

I can get proof easily enough if needed ;) There are some more pics of it over in my car thread in general automotive.

How is the Subaru treating you at this point? I remember you saying you might be selling it a while ago, but then lost track of things on the forum for a bit.

I was thinking about getting out of it for financial reasons but with Obama in the office, I don't have to worry about that now... :)

Seriously though, it's great. I love driving it, so much so I have already gotten 4 or 5 tickets already (lost count). I am now a cruse control kind of guy now. This car begs to be driven fast, it likes it and I try to oblige it. Had a great drive on a stretch between here and Butte on a road called "Continental Drive". It's a series of winding, rolling, switchback, turns with a 70mph limit. The whole time going over a pass in a national park. It was fun, short but fun..... So if your headed that way anyways, it's a nice little detour. :D

Nice car ;) Although with that username I thought you were driving something more special than that.
I'd be driving the Roadster version, my friend. ;)
I can tell you how I know it's not your car though. If it was you'd post ****loads of pics of it, and so would anyone else with a more expensive than your run-of-the-mill GTP dudes' cars ;)
You're right, I actually would because the day I achieve such a car is the day I will then baby it from then on as if it were my kid.

But, I wouldn't be posting it just because it's more expensive. I'd be posting it to share what I've accomplished as I'm sure anyone else here would. Trust me, the day I bring home a Lamborghini, GTP will know. :P

I can't believe I haven't posted these in here yet. Originally posted in this thread, pics of my Legacy 2.5 GT. I have decided to keep her and just get my wife a mini-van. :D

Awesome, Love the interior especially the dials!
The rear looks kinda boring compared to the front though, could do with one of those small lip spoilers on the boot.

You mean like one of these?

No it's a U-Boat.

And for those that still don't get the reference.

(sorry... was looking back through some of the thread, and couldn't resist) :D

OK, on a more current and serious note...

Wow... and to think I even gave him +REP for that great post two years ago. I'd give his recent post a -REP today, but that option doesn't exist any longer. :indiff:

Erik... ask for a mulligan and hit rewind... I preferred the 2006 Erik. 👍

We ask for proof because we don't need liars and wannabes that are full of crap. And yes, some of us actually care about what car the other members drive, because this is a community of interested gearheads.

And as others have said, there have been some epic tall tales in the past.

There are plenty of threads here that people can click on to look at nice cars. However, it kind of defeats the purpose of the post your 'own' car thread if people don't post their own cars. It really isn't that hard to prove, takes maybe a couple of minutes? And I'd gladly do that if I knew that the other members posting in this particular thread posted their own cars as well.

So basically, yeah, I do come into this thread to see what other people on the board drive. If I want to look at nice cars, I'll go to one of the various other ones here.
Edit: not to say all the cars here are crap, far from it. But you know what I mean.

I'd also add, that I suspect some people check this thread out when they are considering the purchase of a car and want to contact someone who owns the same model they are conidering on getting in hopes to get a unbiased, objective opinion from an actual owner.

Which brings me to why I even drop by this thread and spent the time looking back over the last couple hundred posts.

I was recently at Costco and as I was walking to my car I saw this great looking mini-van like Mercedes that I had never seen or even heard of before. On the back it said it was an R320 "4 MATIC". Now I used to admire Mercedes for its tremendous dedication towards engineering and reliability, but frankly, over the last ten years or so that has not been the case, at least not to the level I was accustomed to seeing from them. This was particularly true with their "M" series of SUVs, which is why back in 2000 I bought a Toyota 4-Runner with the complete sport package instead, and have never regretted the decision.

Well since then, my wife and I have had two kids, and she has been bugging me to replace the 4-Runner with a mini-van... something I had successfully avoided doing all these years. :)

Now while I will freely admit, that both the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey are clearly very well engineered, extremely reliable, and offer many features I'm sure I would like... they still don't excite me. Granted, I'll also admit that the recent models do have some decent styling to them, but not enough to make me want to pull the trigger.

Granted, if it was only going to be used by my wife, then I'd have no issues at all with any mini-van of her liking, but I'm a very active father, I coach my daughter’s soccer team, and use the 4-Runner for far more than anything else.

So for now I've been sticking to my guns and holding on to the 4-Runner. That was until I saw this amazing looking Mercedes.

The first thing I did was to look up the model on Mercedes website, and found it rather easily:

Mercedes_Benz_R_class_ext_4.jpg

The pictures I've seen don't really do it justice. In person, it was stunning. By far the best looking 7-passenger vehicle I've had the pleasure of laying my eyes on by far.

My worry however, is on the general reliability of many of Mercedes models over the years, particularly their SUVs. Granted, this is a different model, and is a "cross-over" between a SUV and a wagon, but still. For that kind of money, I expect a very well built and reliable car.

So before I allow my visual excitement overrule my head, I'd love to be able to hear from someone who actually owns this model. Granted, it seems it's very new, so as far as reliability is concerned, I'm going to likely have to wait a little while before I feel confident enough to pull the trigger.

In the meantime however, if any of you gearheads owns or knows someone who owns this car, please send me a PM. Thanks!

Oh you know I'm just joshing you! :D

👍 For sure!

@Digital-Nitrate:
That is one sexy 7-passenger. It would be nice to be able to PM you my personal experiences with this vehicle but given the fact I don't have one, I am excluded. :(

Nice Legacy GT Pako, the exterior is perfect. 👍

Oh, and the photo of the Statesman I put up previously is not personally mine, but one of my parent's cars. I guess I should've said so earlier to avoid all the argumentation that followed it being posted. 👍

Ah a guardrail, for protection against being t-boned correct? How did you attach it to the car? Screws? Also how hard was it to attach the fake grass? :P

http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/mercedes-benz/r-class/

There are a few reviews on there (literally, two) and neither looks particularly promising, but do bear in mind that bad news travels much quicker than good news and for those two bad reviews there may be a thousand good ones. But then, there might not. There's an Autocar review here which seems reasonably favourable, and 4car have previously had a long-term car on loan so you may get some good ideas on reliability from there.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments. I've had it for over a year and still love it.

Looks like it just came out of the dealer, very nice. 👍
Great looking car for sure.

Also can't get enough of Azure's MR2.

I only just now realized we have two GTP-member's-car threads.

My GS 300, at a place that looks like the Claritin allergy medicine box. Sorta.

:tup:Very nice!!! How's the FMIC treating ya?

I went with the Hahn Racecraft front mount and I couldn't be happier. I've seen some kits with shorter piping routes but they require you to lose the factory fog lights and hack up your bumper. I didn't want to do either so the HRC kit was the obvious choice. Perfect fit and finish. Properly sized bar & plate Spearco intercooler core. Mandrel bent piping with beaded ends and powdercoated black. 4-ply couplers and t-bolt clamps. The works.

Clean looking. I've almost bought one several times now in my desire to replace my Corolla... how is it?
