-> Here is Nissan's Hero:

It's Buck Rogers!

On a slightly more serious note, I'm pissed that Nissan stole my ideas for parts of the dash....

For a chance at 1 years of GTP Premium or a GTP T-Shirt, but most importantly Nostradamus bragging rights... submit your guess in the following thread on the exact date and time the GT5:P demo will be released on the Japanese PS Store.
Rules, instructions, and current list of submissions are listed in the first post.

The deadline for submissions is less than 10 hours from now, so don't put it off too long.

How cool is that that PD did the GTR's interface!!! You can see it soo looks PD and that might be the basis for the whole look of GT5 (the settings and tuning menus come to mind)... shows PD's influence in Japan.. I wonder if they will be designing any special aero kits again like with the 350Z.

It would be amazing in GT5 if you could adjust car settings IN THE CAR if it has a screen rather than a menu...

....Imagine getting the licence to use BMW's iDrive interface and screens for example or other manufacturers similar systems in the car whilst you race or are in the pits.

P.S. In one of the GTR pics whats the CARWINGS button underneath the screen? probably means fold the mirrors in right?

I'm just awaiting someone to play it and put pictures. Now I'm really mad that I don't own a PS3. Curse you Sony:grumpy:

I think that release date is just for Japan, the price is even in yen.
Nice find though, hopefully will get EU dates soon.

WOW the box art looks sweet!!! Works so well with the Blu Ray case layout (best move by Sony ever!)...

I don't recall who it was, but someone on GTP made the following cover art design for GT5, which I think looks brilliant!

I'll probably print it out, and replace whatever PD ends up coming up with for the official GT5 cover, with this cover art instead. :)👍

That looks cool. It seems remniscent of the Gran Turismo Concept Box art. Also, I really don't have one I like better between this and the box art in DN's avatar.

The GT5P box does look like the GTC box which had the rear of the old Skyline concept! I will never forgot that intro vid of it driving down a windswept dark mountain road and the water droplets and leaves blowing along the cars roof! (the JPN version)

Im nearly 100% sure there is going to be a Ferrari on the GT5 final box art!.. It would be a no brainer for PD!

The box might be cool, but the really neat part of this whole deal is that you can buy it with out one. =)

Seriously, here in Mexico it takes a while to get the titles on the shelves. (if at all.)

Sony does a very poor job with localization outside of first world countries.

MS on the other hand is pretty good, they sell their stuff at about the same time and price as the US here.

But really, i wish it would become more of a trend for developers to release their games in the online store. (though.. come to think of it that might be bad for my economy.)

I think i'm gonna buy some japanese gamecards in NCSX so i can buy the onilne version of GT5:P

(i think it's the only way, the japanese store doesn't take international CC's.)

Those box-arts look really nice.

My impressions of the demo:

The graphics are phenomenal. The car models are awesome, and tracks are a noticeable improvement over GT4. My only nag here is that the trees are sprites. Hopefully they're placeholders, and I know how PD enhances the tracks later on in the cycle, so I'm not worried. I'm a jaggy whore, and I know why they are getting jaggies, despite 4xMSAA: the HDR lighting. When I do 3d renders, I get aliasing even when I use something like 16 samples per pass, and 4 passes (that's something like 64xAA). This is using global illumination, and HDRI image maps. It happens when there is a sharp contrast between foreground and background (like black and white).

I didn't experience any slowdown, except once, during a replay sequence, where it dropped to maybe 20 fps. If it dropped in the gameplay, I didn't notice.

About the gameplay:

I've never raced in my life, but DAMN, was it fun. Passing a car is very satisfying since they actually give you some room. Never got bumped when trying to make a pass save one time (but I was a ********, and I went on the inside, if he hadn't touched me he would've ran off the track).

Cockpit view is the only way to go, I love it. I am going to go play it again now, and turn up my sound system :)

I REALLY hope that GT5 features at least some true race cars, sure, driving a Ferarri F430 or the new Audi R8 is fun, but nothing compared to driving a Group-C car or a LM prototype, if it features racetracks it also needs racecars for them not roadcars only.

I feel a strong lack of racing cars and I pray that it wont countine into GT5. :nervous: Everything related to GT5 shows road cars only. (Except the japain super GT's)

Wow.. someone else who actually gets it.. lol. I mentioned that in my humongo review in the Demo thread, but I don't know if everyone actually read the whole thing.. hehe.

I think it's only 2xMSAA, according to the folks at B3D. But still, it's a great improvement. GTHD had no AA at all, so I'm kind of surprised at the complaints of jaggies in GT5PD, since it seems to me that there's far fewer jaggies in GT5PD than there are in GTHD. I still think what's catching people's eyes are the low-res shadow maps and not true jaggies. Those draw my eye far more than an aliased edge ever does.

The tone mapping seems a little off at times, where the engine is trying to compensate for an overly-bright sky (usually when you're pointed at the sun), and the track area ends up too dark. Happened all the time in GTHD, although it's much less pronounced now, so they seem to be making progress.

Me, I have high hopes for the game after playing the demo. Things can only get better from here, and considering how good it looks on an early build of an early build, I think there's going to be a ton of improvement before the end.

It's actually 4xMSAA at 720p, and 2xMSAA at 1080p (at least according to the experts at beyond3d ... ;) ).

By the way, I filmed a race in the BMW on N3 tires with no assists and on Professional mode. Pretty hard to even finish the race! Despite my careful driving, you can see me struggle 4-5 times to keep the car under control.

From this, you'd think the AI is very fast, but they actually always run something like S2 tires, no matter what tires you choose. ;)

The HDR thing is true though some of the biggest jaggies come from the low resolution shadow maps, obviously. However, I also get the impression that the game just looks a bit worse in in-car view. It's partly because the HDR is upped a bit, as you're looking from a dark place outward to a bright place, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are other degradations.

.

Correct, as in all GT games so far from GT3 onwards (as for street cars).

What do you mean by this? I know you typically know your gran turismo, but so do I, and I don't remember this being true. Are you referring to Arcade Mode or Simulation mode?

In Simulation Mode in GT3 as well as GT4, cars drove around with various upgrades. And the differences between GT3 and GT4 were pretty big ... GT3 cars had a power modifier, a kind of cheating to make them easier or harder to beat, and they would always keep close together and close to you. If you drove like crap, then they'd hold back, and vice versa.

Also, for some races in GT3, if you selected Simulation Tires, they would select those too and make a complete mess of things, fun to watch.

In GT3 (and GT4 Prologue) these things were pretty easy to verify too, with for instance the replay manager someone we all know programmed. ;) There's a GT4 replay manager of sorts too isn't there? But I don't know if this can tell the tires ...

In GT4, though, there was no power modifier. But there too, various races would be run with various upgrades. I remember that the Speedster cup race in GT4 had all the AI Speedsters pretty much upgraded to the max, tires included. Yaris cup on the other hand I think just ran on stock tires.

Am I wrong?
