It's because, mostly, the media. Everything must be on schedule for tv so the races are getting more and more based on # of laps or time whichever comes first.

That and to avoid never ending races due to weather. I believe that the first time a time limit was imposed was because of the famous slowest race ever in F1. It wasn't too long ago either.

Excuse my ignorance coz I might be wrong, but why would someone race a timed race?!
I don't know any race/championship that has a timed race! It's always number of laps! Imagine a race ending in the middle of the lap coz time ended!
Again I can be wrong, but I honestly can't see the purpose of timed races!
Le Mans 24h, 24h Nurburgring, Sebring 12h, all FIA WEC and IMSA Weathertech races...

^^^ It's been updated and improved since that video was made :D
It looks very good already. Hopefully one of the improvements is the Shutter Speed option assuming there is a full range of increments - 1/654s, 1/655s, 1/666s etc - as that could be frustratingly slow to navigate.

24h Nurburgring isn't a championship race of WEC or IMSA.

I have a question. With these online championships, the sms website says the status of each race will be updated and can be exported outside of the game. Does that mean that you'll be able to do the championships on PS4 and XB1 and import them to a website when you can see them, or is it all start and finish from PC only?

Not on console.

Like a thread where people can see what features are in game? Good idea. I wonder if it's already been done...

Yeah, because I was completely confused by it. I guess on the website, it's mainly talking about PC features unless noted.. I may be wrong on that..

Thanks guys for the info!
But I was wondering, let's say 24h Le mans, what happens when the time finishes?! Don't they finish the lap!?
I think it's logical that they do; but yeah I get you that the amount of laps itself is dictated by time!

Okay, say like they're in the middle of a lap with the time expires, the race doesn't end there. The race ends when the leader crosses the line after the time ends.

Getting ready for pCars2. This means buying a descent monitor for my ps4.
Are those wide screens supported?

What afvice do you guys give me in my quest for a good monitor?

It depends on how the time plays out and where the leader is on track. The organizers know what the average lap time for the leader is and will time the display of the white flag with as close to that amount of time remaining as possible. But yes, in general, as with any other racing there is a white flag to indicate one final lap and that final lap could complete after the time has expired.

Lap count is irrelevant because so many factors can impact the number of laps completed within that specified number of hours, such as incidents/accidents, weather, and mechanical issues.

Yeah Canada 2011...race went on for 4 hours whilst a normal F1 race is in the region of 1h30min back in the day and rarely longer than 2 hours lately.

No offense but how are you this deep into sim racing and don't know about times races?

I'm really into racing games/ simracing, yet I don't follow any racingclass nor do I know anything about it. I knew about timed races, but that's due to a friend once invited me to a race at Zolder which was timed.

Some people like to roleplay beeing a racedriver but would find watching races absolutely boring. (I think it's somewhat interesting)

That boggles my mind. I don't get how someone could have even a remote interest in racing cars without knowing anything about the real world racing said cars actually do. Doesn't mean you're wrong or invalid for that, just that my brain can't put itself in that mindset and make sense of it, sorry.

Oh, I absolutely encourage you to watch a complete race at one of your favorite racing circuits. Especially using one of your favorite car classes. Not only do I find it very exciting and entertaining, I often learn things that help me with positional racing strategy and race-craft. Also, I learn more about the real life tracks we race on. Sometimes there's things about a track that aren't so obvious when I'm seeing it in the game, but then I learn about it through race coverage and I'm like "duh :dunce:, how didn't I ever notice that?"

Just a suggestion. 👍

Hey, I played a lot of Hardball back in DOS days and never seen a baseball game but then again, it's not a sport we have here... Not sure if i'd find boring or if i'd like it. Probably like it as I prefer endurance races :)

And if talk about at least a track day they're even less. I think everyone should at least drive once around a track. I highly recommend it and it does give another insight on simracing. But that's me.

It's a lot easier to drive on a track in Europe, many are much more open to the general public. Around me in the US it costs a pretty penny to get your car on track and to be honest I don't know if I'd want to without making sure it's in perfect shape. 2015 Corolla LE with 50k miles

Maybe. I think it's expensive but it's not just pick your car and enter the circuit. There are rules too in track-days. There's logistics and people to be paid like fire marshals and medic staff and organisers...

I still recommend it at least once though, ofc, if one can.

At least in the UK there are a lot of options to do driving experiences and passenger laps.

Last week I did 6 laps of Donnington GP in an Ariel Atom for less than £100.00 and it included a couple of passenger laps in a 2017 Civic R.

Last year a Single Seater (restricted but still great fun), M4 and a passenger lap in a JPLM (slicks and serious downforce) around Oulton Park Fosters cost £230.00.

Next is a drive in a 911, 360 (£100.00) around Oulton Park again...

£300.00 gets you 3 sessions in a Ginetta Junior with 3 sessions throughout the day and significant driver tuition.

After that the sky is the limit into £1000.00s but to experience a bunch of cars including proper race cars can be really very affordable over this end and it really is fun comparing your sim to the real world.

Yea, that's not that expensive at all and I've love to do that, but it's not so easy here. It certainly would help to live near a track though.

I have attended a race before, watched televised races a few times, competed in an autocross event, and driven Touristfahren laps around the Nordschleife, but I actually don't consider all that very relevant to my interest in racing games. It's more relevant to my general interest in cars and motorsports.

The main reason I play racing simulators is because they offer a realistic simulation of driving a car, not because they offer an authentic simulation of motorsports. There are no realistic alternatives that don't involve circuit racing, so I have no choice but to play a motorsports-oriented game like this. Something like Forza Horizon but as realistic as possible would be my ideal racing game.

I haven't been to many races live, seen BTCC once at Thruxton, and also went to World series by renault at Silverstone years ago, I love all racing, I follow F1, F2, Indycar, all GT3 stuff like Blancpain, WEC, IMSA, I <3 it all, I just love cars and motorsport! :gtpflag:

and I want to pretend to be in them races with Project cars 2.
