I'm driving down to Virginia tomorrow to help my brother with a move so I should be asleep by then. I'll probably be back to check things by 2/3 pm EST

I am on cloud nine right now! I've always been an average pace racer, but for the first time ever, I am the fastest person in a specific car/track on time trials! It is sooooo intoxicating! :D
That's a great feeling! Congrats! What's the combo? For a while I had the quickest Ferrari 488 GTE time at Spa with a 2:15.4 on the PS4. Not sure if it's been beaten yet.

Why are replays so short in the Private Test mode? I don't even get to see a full lap on the longer tracks such as Le Mans. In Custom Race the replays always seem to be full length despite running a sizeable grid of cars.

Should I get this game for a standard console (old PS4 or Xbox One S)? I play on gamepad. I kinda enjoyed Project Cars on PS4 even though it was pretty frustrating to spin out all the time but it was somewhat playable with right controller settings and patience. I'm looking for decent console game for track racing. Forza 7 is loaded with bugs and bigger or smaller defects, and many cars have incorrect sounds which annoys me so much. GT Sport is great game for online but misses few single player features (tracks, multiclass racing, and if you choose N class opponents there will be cars from other N classes as well for some odd reason). It's mostly about the framerate and controller steering.

The analog stick steering in this game is greatly improved over PCARS1, particularly after the last couple updates. SMS recently added an optional countersteer feature that feeds in some opposite lock when the car is sideways, much like the self-aligning torque force of a FFB wheel. Between that and the improved logic in how the game responds to countersteer input, it is much easier to correct oversteer without spinning out compared to PCARS1.

With my settings, I find it possible to use a mix of the precision-input playing style that PCARS1 required and the quick-tapping playing style that is the norm for almost all other racing games, which makes playing PCARS2 much more comfortable than PCARS1.

I play on a regular PS4 (Slim), and for the majority of the time the framerate is fine. It will drop when you burden the hardware with lots of cars on the grid (the game goes up to 32) and/or demanding weather conditions like a thunderstorm. I tend to stick to 16-20 cars, in a variety of weather conditions, and then only a few specific tracks can be a problem in terms of framerate.

Strange, I’ve just got back to online on pc and it’s pretty clean racing, just like it was a few months ago. Up to B safety now. Haven’t seen any wreckers yet since I got the game.

Must be nice. Since my ramblings on here I’ve encountered 2 S license people who have purposely tried to take me out because they couldn’t take a loss. One involved an attempted punt in which the S class driver said he “lost control”, even though he never touched the brakes and coincidentally missed me by an inch from over a second back.

When putting rain in a race, what do you find more fun/works best with the four slots?

A) Rain - Dry - Dry - Rain
B) Rain - Dry - Rain - Dry
C) Rain - Dry - Dry -Dry

D) Rain - Rain - Dry - Dry
E) Rain - Rain - Dry - Rain
F) Rain - Rain - Rain - Dry

G) Dry - Rain - Dry - Dry
H) Dry - Rain - Rain - Dry
I) Dry - Rain - Dry - Rain

J) Dry - Dry - Rain - Dry
K) Dry - Dry - Rain - Rain
L) Dry - Dry - Dry - Rain

I want enough to make a pit stop happen, but in the right way so the racing doesn't get bogged down. Is it better to go from wet to dry or vice versa?

I like Dry - Light Rain - Rain - Dry.

Depends on how fast I make the multiplier. Sometimes, I quicken the race and leave weather at Real. The track doesn't dry as quick.

I always sync to race. If you have it timed out too fast it will repeat from the beginning?
I mainly sync to race, but I haven't experienced weather repeating. I'm on XB1. I don't know if that's different between PC & console.

No, it's just the math of fit. Real time means each slot is an hour, so while the on screen setting is a multiplier you have to imagine the equation as 1 hour divided by ____ = length of 1 slot. So x2 means each slot is 30 minutes, or an hour divided by 2.

So with that data, you can set it to say x15 making each slot 4 minutes. Using all slots makes 16 minutes of weather. Make the race for 20 minutes. I imagine it will cycle through to the beginning instead of extending the last slot to the finish.

Don't forget that the weather slots aren't strictly an hour, there's some variability in when a transition occurs and how long it takes.

As for the pattern, I might do C/D/F, or K/L, or H. Setting a dry period after rain in the evening makes for some pretty visuals. :)

I think I'm gonna try H, then G. Dry - Rain - Light Rain- Dry. Hopefully we only have to pit once for rain tires and they will still last after the rain stops to make a drying line. If I go Dry - Rain - Dry - Dry, it may dry out too fast and then have to pit for slicks again. 40 minute races with each slot being 10 minutes should be good. Long enough that I don't zone out and fudge it up too!

I rarely race that long. Most are 10 minutes or 5 laps, depending on circuit. Still, haven't experienced a repeat in weather.

Interesting. I hate doing long races too. I would to 20 minutes with each slot lasting 5 but I don't think that gives it enough time to get wet or dries too fast

If you have it timed out too fast it will repeat from the beginning?

I'm quite sure it does repeat. The other day I was driving with three weather slots sped up to x10. The third and final weather slot was light rain but suddenly it stopped raining, which made me think the weather slots were starting over.

Is it possible to make an online lobby at one track and keep changing cars without having to make a new room? I want to pit a track and mess with all the new Porsche DLC cars

PS4 version performs better partly due to the better hardware specs in comparison to the standard Xbone.

Is anybody else having a problem with the leaderboards not syncing for time trials? I haven't played project cars in about 3 weeks so im still catching up on some of the changes for patch 4.0.

They've never immediately changed for me. Always taken a bit of time.

Go back to the track and set another lap and your previous session, presuming it was your best, will show up as soon as you are back. I'm too impatient to wait so I do that and it works every time.

It's not showing the leaderboard in general. I can't select no ghost times or nothing. I'll try to put a lap down and see what happens but it's not suppose to be doing that.

Yeah, I know that. In Digital Foundry video PS4 got 60fps sometimes (clear conditions, 16 car grid) but Xbox One never did. If I get the game (and I'm propably going to, even though the performance stuff worries me) it will be for PS4 (even though mine is over 3 years old and pretty loud, but it has been loud as long as I remember, especially in Project Cars). It kinda sucks that the standard console versions not only look worse (which is to be expected, the new consoles are here for a reason) but also performance leaves something to be desired. I liked doing large grids in PC1, the LeMans style 2 hour races with full day-night cycle. It was playable in clear conditions and even in the rain but it has been slowing down a bit more and the road has been slippery so it was becoming harder to stay on track especially on DS4.

I spent a while last night and today trying to get to grips with the C7 Z06 Vette. After a while I realized that a fair bit of what was causing my issues is the somewhat unusual transmission setup. The game says it has a 7-speed H pattern, but I didn't read that at first of course(and when I saw it it confused me as it didn't drive that way even though he shifted like it was). I just noticed that it was auto-lifting and auto-blipping the throttle for me so I apparently didn't need to use the clutch. But I had a lot of problem with unexpected instability at times, usually mid-late corner and even when not pushing for pace.

Some of this was obviously because I was driving on a cold track, but I eventually realized that a lot of it was due to the fact that even though the Z06 manages the throttle for me when shifting normally, the gas pedal overrides the auto-blip on downshifts. So when I would find myself getting through a corner too slow for the gear I was in and I downshifted, it was overrevving and causing wheelspin, which I was never expecting since I was driving it like a flappy-paddle semi-automatic and lazily leaving the gas halfway down. Once I corrected that the car became much more manageable. Still a handful at times but it does what I expect.

Is there a list anywhere of any other cars that have an oddball feature like this that I should look out for? I'm not sure if I should expect SMS to have some sort of explanation of things like this or how they would do it. But I do remember a fair bit of frustration in the first pCARS because it didn't tell you anything of what to expect, so you just got in an unfamiliar car and set about trying to figure out how the transmission was set up on the fly(and some of them were a bit odd). It's nice that they do at least tell you if it is an H-Pattern or sequential which helps a bit... though I suspect when it says "sequential" what it really means is "computer-managed-paddle-shift" and it calls any older race cars with a traditional sequential gearbox "H-Pattern" for simplicity. It would also be nice if it could let you know if your car has hybrid boost/KERS/DRS type systems too but I don't think it does. I did read somewhere on GTP that one of the old F1 cars has a sort of overboost mode you can use at risk of engine damage(which I remember some F1 cars did way back when I was first watching).

EDIT: It would also probably be nice if the handbrake worked on street cars. Last I checked most real cars do have one, but I've yet to find one where my mapped E-brake button works.
