From what I've seen the clutch is only for rev matching. You can shift completely without it but depending on the car you may have problems with instability. It seems like there should be some sort of penalty for being way too rough on it but as far as I know it's just down to whether you can maintain control or not. If I had to completely guess, I might assume it was an overly aggressive reaction to the glitchy way it worked in pCARS 1 where a seemingly perfect shift would sometimes act like a missed shift and not shift or end up in neutral or shift two or three times at once. But who knows, it might have just been because people testing the game whined about it.

Sure, in a real [road] car you CAN shift without the clutch but it's not particularly good for it even when shifting up, and when downshifting you can usually only get away with it if the revs are quite low.

Fingers crossed they'll do something about it someday, but not holding my breath.

Yeah that seems exactly what it is.

I have driven cars and shifted without a clutch but it doesn't work this way. Game seems to go "gear 3 selection made, put it in gear 3 when possible without damage and reduce most engine braking or overly high rpm effects to help keep car stable" In a real car it has to line up, ideally the correct revs or it will grind/pop if forced. Sure some crazy cut gears will just let you slam it in but if your RPM is wrong the car will get very unbalanced.

It is not as bad as the way GTS does it (which is so bad I don't even both with the shifter for PD titles) but it is not simulated as well as AC.

Just glad to know I am not crazy thanks.

Edit - Also it does not make correct shifting feel wrong either.. so once I get going with a car and get the revs right it feels nice.

You know how you play/do something for so long and not switch to another thing, then that first thing sort of wears itself out or loses its shimmer? Well I decided to switch back to other sims to see how they stack up fresh off pcars2.

Raceroom first. Of course this is a forum, so the phrase "in my opinion" doesnt really get you very far. I really feel like there are only a couple of things that r3e does obviously better, sound and clutch simulation. Now when talking about the physics, I have no idea what real is like in a 1980s-90s touring car, but I would dare to say that both are close enough to each other that it makes no difference? And for the price, you would get roughly 50-60% of the content of pcars2. Although it does have custom championships.... cough

Well I guess rfactor 2 then. Ill be super honest here, there are a lot of small things with rf2 that lower the overall enjoyment of the game. I really like the way the cars drive and the AI is human like but thats about it. The ui is awful, the sounds are ok, graphics meh, content (397 or isi) is lacking. What really do they have over any other sim other than a really really good tire model?

Either of these games I do really both enjoy, but when pcars 2 has Ai that is maybe 90% as good as rf2, or a tire model that has enough feel to be enjoyable, its so much easier to just stick with the more well rounded choice than try to work out the great moments of the other sims.

@notanexpert did you try assetto corsa?
I think somewhere in the middle of all that and the most balanced, on PC.
Great graphics, very good AI, acceptable UI, great tire model, very good sounds, good amount of content. BUT the most important is the huge amount of MODs which can range from cars, to tracks, to liveries, to sounds etc...

i was going to mention that i did not try assetto corsa, I do have the game and love it very much. I would say that the 2 most well rounded sims are this and assetto. Although, sometimes i do find AC to feel a bit clinical?

If you want a diversion from pCARS 2 and AC, I highly recommend rally.

Go buy DiRT Rally, Sebastien Loeb Evo and dig into them for a while (neither costs much on Steam now, although you just missed the Lunar New Year with crazy reductions). You'll find the circuit sims waiting for you fresh when you get back and have had a blast in the meantime.

Anybody noticed that the track mini-map on XB1 is a lot less clear compared to videos I've seen on the PS4 or PC? It's as if the opacity has been turned right down/up (whatever way it is), I can hardly make it out while I'm trying to learn a track.

Uhh, in regards to the latest update. I'm on Xbox One and my wheel is far more sensitive and give less feedback then it used to a few days ago. I'm using a Thrustmaster TX1 and I checked all the wheel settings and it's fine in that regard, and all my settings in game are good, but for some reason it's like i'm playing a completely different game. Even with the in game FFB settings turned up almost to max I still don't have anywhere near the level of resistance or "feel" I used to. Anyone else having this problem? Also, is anyone having some cars (like the Nissan GTP ZX-T and BMW M6 GTE) are nearly quiet in interior view? Go to third person and the cars are deafening, but otherwise you can barely hear them.

Each patch is messing the ffb settings. I'm on a g29. I used to use informative, then I switched to Immersive after patch 3 and now to raw that finally feels ok on the g29 after patch 4.
Expect to retest and redo all the ffb testing after each patch which is stupid and annoying.

I've been using Raw the entire time since release and never had major issues with it. A little clipping maybe in specific scenarios but not enough to have to tweak it

That happened more or less each time in Pcars1 bro, i remember one patch, i think it was patch 5.00, that changed the FFB completely, and some of the guys i was racing with in CRAP at the time were annoyed with the changes, and couldn't enjoy the game until the following 6.00 came out (But that patch then screwed the tyre temps on the GT3 cars if i remember correctly lol) :) .

I myself haven't noticed big changes with FFB each patch, but of course i was away from October '17 until 2 weeks ago, so that would explain that.

Online needs a serious rework for pCars 3 with organized, scheduled races. The whole idea of punters receiving more penalties over time and being separated does not work. Every single race some jack 🤬 ruins the race for everyone. Also only the top 3 gaining is a major problem in my opinion. It leads to very desperate moves for the top 3.

Unfortunately over the last few years I've found the only way to have consistently clean and fun racing is by finding and joining leagues for weekly events.

Edit: I never finished my thought lol. That's why I have to find ways to make single player entertaining and honestly I usually can't be cause there's no real rewards. I only turn it on to practice or ace league night. Otherwise I'm playing Battlefield 1 for some competitive reward fulfillment.

Yea online is a COMPLETE JOKE right now. Always on pole, get punted turn one, rating goes back to U because it’s somehow my fault and I finish mid pack. Rinse and repeat.

How the hell are you still at a U rating? Get some friends and race in a private lobby. Pretty simple solution to the problem.

My rating plummets every time I race in public lobbies through no fault of my own. Every time someone rear ends you it takes away from your rating.

Did you read what I posted! Get some friends,go to private room and race. I'm sure you wont have the problem anymore. Public lobbies are exactly what you should avoid for that reason.

What if he doesn't have a lot of online friends that also play PCars 2? Or even if he does, they aren't available to race at the same times? That's the boat I'm in. You can't just yell at someone to do something. It doesn't work like that...

Edit: Oh wait, just had another thought. If you're racing with friends in private rooms then your rating really doesn't matter anymore does it?

Your in that boat because of your own reasons! I've invited you to private rooms on numerous occasions to race with 12 other friends of mine.Remember? Its pretty easy to drop your rating with friends real quick! All it takes is a good setup at Daytona and 10 people who can drive and your rating will drop like a rock in 3 hours.

That’s my point though. Public lobbies should be so much more than they are. You should be able to jump on and do a few races and have fun. Having to avoid an entire element of this game because trolls aren’t filtered properly is wrong.

Its pretty simple. Look at their ratings. If they are all U ratings, your getting what you asked for. I'm at S1339. I sure as hell don't race in U lobbies. I'll be on at 1145 tonight. Shoot me a friend request. I'll give you a setup for Daytona. Mustang Boss 302R GT4. Race it. Its been passed around hundreds of times online.
You'll find someone driving it.

I was trying to be civil and avoid specifics but go ahead and change the topic to my shortcomings because that's on-topic.

We'll get there buddy!

How are you going to get there if you race with "trolls and bashers" Is there some magic formula to avoid idiots? It is your shortcomings. You said you have no friend's. I invited you to race with 12 great racers and friends of mine. Do you not think you wouldn't have added some as friends after racing with them? I have setups for Daytona that make people quit after myself and friends qualify. So I share the setup, my buddies get pissed at me. Guess what? It makes friends and better racers. I tried to give you that opportunity.

i'd say avoid the risk of the front of the pack and T1. Just start towards the rear and race safe. The game will start to figure "it's not you, it's them" and your rating will rise. Once you get to F, E, D you'll find cleaner players. Nothing beats a private lobby with clean racers. On the official forum several groups have advertised their leagues/groups for all platforms.

Exactly! Thank you.

Hey man, I'd like to send you a PM but GTP/it/you won't let me. I'd rather have a personal conversation with you in private instead of broadcasting it in this topic as it is clearly off-topic posting. Please message me, friendly chat I promise. :)

I'm getting ready for work. I'll be home at 11:30 EST
