If you're not against others liking it, there's zero reason to claim PCars should leave the view to arcade games. I like it, but clearly you know what's best for how I should play the game....

So what if it's not realistic. Neither is having a HUD on the screen. Don't project your preferences onto others by stating a feature someone else likes "should die already".

I really do see why others find this forum abrasive and needlessly confrontational.

Carry on dear.

I'm happy to get what we've been spoiled with for game play videos, but I'm a fiend for replays.

Please, can someone do a replay like this? Vintage road cars, vintage touring cars and Trans Am class. Doesn't have to be at Mount Panorama.

And a mock Bathurst 12H: GT3, GT4 and TCR. 15 minute real time. Thank you.

I second third and forth this request! Will be this first proper race I'll do, 1 hour at Bathurst gt3 and gt4, then a touring car masters type race! I was at Bathurst last year when they had 50 something TCM cars flying past.. was spectacular

@05XR8 here is a video I took of them..
Edit: okay nevermind it's not working, here is a photo of a small portion of the field

If only the leagues restricted the camera view...
wrt to the controllers, it's a different matter... There is the cost and tbh irl there's all kinds of workarounds for people with disabilities so I'm unsure about these. There needs to be a way for people to control the object in a game (this case a car). Unlike cameras...

The the camera views really don't cost. They're just an unnatural choice and actually, and advantage in some cases. LMP cars for one are claustrophobic by nature. Visibility in chase cam is a lot wider...

And please, don't tell me about triples and vr and such. I used to have ONE monitor as well for the longest of times and even slower and having to have extra care no to ruin nobody's race I always had used cockpit view. With time I obviously got better and with nowadays tools/radars letting you know where everybody is it's even less an excuse. pC2 "radar" works beautifully btw.

There NO reason according to my experience to get used to (and tbh enjoy a sim so much more when everything goes well) to cockpit view.

But hey, I drive for immersion, not winning (which I ended up doing after). So if I can do it, everyone sure can (btw, I do have a video of my 13yr old atm the time) driving like that... :P

There are people here that know this because I used to play on a PS3 as well.

Makes a controversial statement, gets called out, blames the forum for it.

That'll surely get you far here. :dunce:

Call out by who? For what? Get far where? Who cares? Its the online forum about a video game, get a grip.

Nothing you've said discredits my opinion about chase cam being the most unrealistic camera view which is sort at odds with the realism push the game is trying to make. Not to mention the significant advantage it offers over all over driving view points.

But carry on with your straw man arguments about controllers, HUDs and driving aids.....

Don't you just love the interwebs.

Emphasis mine. You keep repeating this as if it's gospel when I've already demonstrated that it's not an absolute goal of the game at all times. The goal is that you can race and drive realistically if you choose too but it's not a requirement. Keyboard and joystick compatibility, AI tuning at various levels, restart buttons, the ability to turn driver aids and damage on and off, and more, all indicate that the game is intended to be accessible to a wide variety of players, not a narrow push for the most realism possible. Thus your argument falls completely apart on that point alone.

So you really think 3rd person cam is more beneficial than VR? You think it gives some type of advantage over other drivers? So are we gonna go down the road of Controller vs. Wheel, ffb vs. non force feed back wheels? Belt wheels vs. DD wheels? The what "I" think is best/faster if incredibly subjective.

The good thing about 3rd person is for controller users as they have a little less feel than wheel drivers and sometime more twitchy so having them in 3rd person can benefit the entire field as they have more perspective of surrounding with 3rd person on. It is also needed for drivers with disabilities as stated before by drivers with disabilities. I race 100% of the time in cockpit because I like the immersion and have a wheel. Before my wheel I felt like I was a more responsible driver and more respectful to the field by using 3rd person because I was less of detriment to other dirvers. Pcars allows you to lock in cockpit view when you set up a lobby so I really don't see why this is a issue.

First post over here as a long time lurker - great community and amazing seeing the massive amount of racing fans all in one place. Pretty humbling seeing a few of my VR videos shared over here. Glad most everyone is enjoying them, if not making them motion sick :yuck:

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and will add a nice little GT4 race I did last night:

Cool to see you here. You're my new favorite YouTuber. Seeing your videos gave me that very last bump over the edge to get a Rift. And it arrives today.

Just dont expect the resolution to be very high. That's the biggest shortcoming of the current VR tech.

Complaining about strawman arguments from the person who thinks the issue is about whether Chase cam is unrealistic or not?

No one said it is. That doesn't validate your elitist view point that it shouldn't be in the game. If you've got an issue with it being unrealistic in a sim, then surely you've got an issue with the HUD, and other video game elements present bc...shocker, it's a video game!

The A.I. at the beginning worries me..

The start of races in reality worry me :scared:
Dont wet your pants guys, thats the exact AI behavior Ian is talking about here :sly:
We had a regression bug in the AI in the build that journalist is using. The AI isn't bad. It's the best AI I've ever raced against. But it's not perfect and it never will be. But to compare it to GT where the AI were on unmovable rails (I assume this is the 'darkest hour' reference) is completely off the mark. Our AI are dynamic, adaptive, human like and yes (ignoring bugs) occasionally over zealous and make the odd mistake and spin out. They are the complete opposite of the 'dark hour of GT' AI where they worked as wonderful cornering aids.

EDIT, I really should explain what the regression bug was right?

Basically it was a tiny change that seemed positive from the coder's perspective that totally cocked up the side by side behaviour of the AI. They became extremely hesitant to overtake each other, and the player. This had knock on effects in many areas of the AI experience.

You are right, it's worrying.

Earlier today @IanBell mentioned there was a bug in the AI coding of a recent build. This may very well be connected. Here is what he had to say...

!!!!News flash!!!!!!

As stated in my original response (feel free to jog your memory or go back one page) you will see that I myself use hood view and further more my very first post in this forum was to express how difficult it was to play the game with a controller. I took the time to do some research online after shelving the game for about 4 months to find some controller settings that were half way decent that I can play with.

So, yes this elitist plays on an Xbox, with a control pad, on a single 42inch, on a couch, , in my boxers, in cockpit view and at times hood cam.

Keep trying buddy eventually you might get there.

I don't care what what view you prefer or how you play.

The issue was you claiming Chase cam needs to die bc it's not realistic in a simulator. So what? It's a video game with a cam every racing game has implemented. If it makes it easier for someone, again, play in a league that doesn't allow it.

You're changing your argument each post now. Bottom line is don't use the view if you don't like it.

Back to videos.

Please back to videos, I used TV pod can when I was moving house and my wheel was packed up so what pad control in car is a pain in the arse. Let ppl do what they want and all those video posters.. come back!!

Right. It is 1200 x 1080 per eye. If you're accustomed to 4k on Ultra settings, it will look bad. If you're used to 1080p on Medium/High settings, it'll be fine.

Even from 1080p its a significant step down. Reason is its right in front of your eyeballs. So while sense of scale is magnificent, anything far away from your vehicle is a blur. You can get used to it, but I hope the Gen 2 VR comes out soon with at least 2x bump in resolution, assuming the eye-tracking will work to reduce the GPU requirements.
