SMS usually keeps content, this will be the case. There will be events for historic cars like Shift 2 from what GameRiot said, so no worry for stuff like that going away.
I think the new cars will be extra, not just replacements.
I've only used a handful of the cars in Project Cars 2 but it's great that they're there if I want to.

i think a more focused car just could be a good thing. there were definitely some cars that i never touched in pc2 and others that i did play with that felt unpolished.

Quote from game director

"For old car bores like myself they're making all the right noises. And, more importantly, is it still possible to take a clubman racer around a drenched Cadwell Park? "That stuff's all in there," says Morrish, noting that some 13 new track locations are coming to Project Cars 3 as well as 40 new vehicles. "None of that has gone away. If the first thing you want to do when you get into the game is turn every assist off and drive in a thunderstorm in pitch dark at midnight or something, you can still do all of that."

Taken from Eurogamers article. Well worth a read if you want to reassure your SIM racing hearts.

This thread has provided some of the most... Unique, complaints for a racing game I've ever come across.

It's not unique.

I share his point of view.

It's unnecessarily cheesy.

(Get off my lawn neighborhood stray cats!)

I think its just gonna be pointless complaining because its not what "they" wanted.

I understand this is pointless complaining in the sense that the feature is already there, and is mostly not going anywhere (unfortunately), but it doesn't mean we are not allowed to share our opinions.

We complain because we care and because we want to help contribute to making the game be as good as it should be...

Unlike Forza, GT doesn't have to resort to such cheap fonts like this in order to force the gamer into some sort of excited mood...

If am playing, I am already excited, no need for cheap visual or graphics... Keep it simple and classy.

Keep it industry standard... I don't see iRacing doing that kind of thing...

Its unfortunate that they think making racing game accessible to most means they have to go down that route... They do not... Take example of the best of them (GT, AC, iRacing), not the worse (Forza, Grid, Crew NFS...)

Exactly. It's one thing to have a 3,2,1 countdown in NFS or Grid on a fictitious street circuit but if it's also to be a serious SIM it needs serious HUD ie countdown lights. If it's to have content from real tracks and race series it needs to implement real world content including countdown lights. Yes I know that on a rally stage the co driver will count down in numbers but for circuit racing it's lights on a gantry

I need a lie down

:P We are getting flustered.

Don't worry, I expect you'll be able to switch off the HUD countdown just like you can turn off the HUD lights in PC2. I have and rely solely on the track gantry start lights. Much more realistic.

Yeah, if all that's been said from SMS is correct then it should be as much of a SIM as we want it to be but can be dumbed down to the point of almost driving itself.

nah, i felt this... i loved the lights in PC2. the countdown feels like something out of 2006
And I didn't like the tyre sliding noise! It way it was chattering it sounds more like ABS pulsing

Is there a reason you are refusing to see what the majority of people see in the gameplay footage and trailer? The game definitely looks more simcade than anything. Judgement will be reserved for when it releases but to say that this is anything like what people expected from PC3 is laughable. I'm more mad at myself for not expecting this when I saw that Codemasters were developing the game.

Right -- I don't know why you lads have the unrealistic floating sprite of the starting lights enabled. That's so arcade. :P

If the lights are too small to see, then your FOV must be unrealistically high, not set according to your mandatory calculated FOV. Arcade!

I absolutely see what the footage has shown so far, but I... you know... actually like the direction the series is heading in?

This may come as a shock to people in the hardcore sim racing community, but people can have different opinions.

Fair enough, carry on.

At least it's a representation of an actual race start. Much better than 3,2,1

It will not surprise me if the game has both, under a setting. An authentic race start matters more in online racing, and for that reason I doubt they scrapped it. I admit I had not thought of that.

Crazy how money can ruin things.

Kunos Simulazioni (Assetto Corsa developer) was purchased by Digital Bros. Nowadays Assetto Corsa’s scope has been narrowed down to series-licensed GT3 and GT4 racing instead of covering a bit of everything automotive. Whether you like that may be a matter of taste, but thought-provoking that one of the talented Kunos founders has since left the company.

Codemasters eventually bought SMS and Project CARS now looks like it has sold its soul to casual appeal. Possibly because Codemasters dictates where its teams should focus in the market. Hope we’re all wrong, but it looks that way.

Only thing I don’t understand is why Project CARS 3 needs Bandai Namco when Codemasters is an independet publisher. Maybe some old contract between SMS and Bandai binding the ties?

Since its cross gen 👎 i think this maybe the best we get

It be nice if it was made from the ground up for next gen only but.

The requirements from Sony to have all PS4 games released after June be playable on PS5 is clear and understood.

My speculation is as follows in regards to pCARS3, It will be either that:

1) pCARS3 will be playable on PS5, OR
2) SMS will release another game right soon after once PS5 is release, maybe called pCARS Revolution...

There is no way that SMS is missing out on the Next Gen Console bandwagon...

So far, from what i am seeing, i wish what we are seeing is pCARS Revolution and the next title by pCARS 3 on PS5...

i am flying blind, so just speculating...

Unfortunately, at the end of the day developing and selling video games is a business so the company will do what it needs to in order to achieve that. I don't agree with the direction the game is taking at all but I can see why they do it. Most of the time it is better to stick to a sim that is created by a small developer than a large one because eventually the money will catch up to them and they'll be more and more greedy. I know that SimBin who were the creators of the legendary sim GTR2 are working on GTR3 so that is something to still be excited about along with Automobilista 2.

It’s exactly that, the projects started under BN before the Codemasters purchase still have to be honoured.

I did think about putting that but I held back. :D

Next I've got to think up something about those evil Codemasters forcing SMS to completely rewrite the game in the few months since the merger. There does seem to be a lot of conclusion jumping going on.

No wonder the sim racing community has a massive problem with gate keeping when this is the reaction to a developer trying to make a game that isn't some boring, hyper realistic racing sim.

Of course, considering this is the racing genre's equivalent of Randy Pitchford, now owned by the monopolizing force of the racing game industry, I have my doubts as to whether it will actually be as good as Ian likes to boast his games are, or if there will be the same problems that have plagued his games since Shift 2. Especially on the controller front.

But this thread has been utterly embarassing with how virulently some people want to label this as 'arcade, and jerk off about how much frivolous sim racing **** they own.

Arguing, about a numbered countdown? Christ people, go outside if you're really trying to argue about *that*.

The news about most content coming to PC3 is great! Now I am starting to feel more confident with this game!

I think it will be some of both...

For example. Old LMP1 cars aren't needed they have added 2016 all cars in DLC. I think those cars will be LMP1 and old ones will be cuttet (maybe some of the fictional WMD cars would be in PC3 but why we need older Toyota?)

Also i have feeling they will ditch some of less popular cars or change them to more actual cars. Same as not all cars came from PC1.

An even bigger issue is that this has spread across the entire racing game genre. "Arcade Racer" has become some sort of derogatory term used towards racing games that aren't your typical circuit racing simulator, implying that arcade racers are easy, tacky games designed for little children (which, most of the time, they're not)

Like you said, can't SMS try something different for once? For the past 5 years simracers have been given so many options yet some of them still think they're a minority, oppressed by the "arcade" boogeyman who just wants to gather as much money from kids as possible, or something dumb like that. I'm still skeptical of SMS aswell but there's like 5 different modern simracers out there right now, it's become a saturated market. Let them expand their horizons a bit...

I think we will be able to switch modes as such from the home screen menu.

PC3 is catering for both. It is providing a platform where the casual gamer can jump in and have fun, start a career where assists are on and whilst carving through the career mode they start to learn how to set up a car and drop the assists etc - thus if they wanted they can level up to sim level racing.

Having a car and being able to develop the car by mods is a good step forward - it could be that you can start with base model car and turn it into a GT3 track car that can then be used in sim mode?

I believe this first trailer is just showing more of an arcade feel so that it taps into the market they want to get onboard - the beginner not accustomed to a sim racer.

There is no point immediately showcasing high level sim playing because that would make the casual gamer just think 'not getting it, it's a pure sim game like PC2 was"

A bit like how all sim lovers here are now reacting to the trailer.

I will give them the benefit of doubt, if they do cater for both beginners/casual gamers and sim racers under one roof and pull it off - then it will be one hell of a game imo
