Stepping away from the new license talk for a second, here's another wee reminder of what the current manufacturers we have in the game are up to new-cars-wise. I really hope these new cars are part of SMS' plans going forward:

Yeah I hope that these beauties will come to PCars in the near future.

My guess would be that it's either not very profitable to make a GTE car or that the they're waiting until the new GTE regulations are finished.
Gt3 is effectively an open rule book so they had to release a mega update or a new car to compete with the McLaren bently and Audi. GTE in comparison is really strict.

It seems that GT Automotive makers are trying to make games studios cry, you have SMS, Kunos and Papyrus all putting out GT cars and then they go nope and release a whole new generation of GT cars for them to licence and model! Seriously you have the BMW M6, the new Audi, SLS merc, the Mclaren 420b, the Lambo Hurican and Ferrari are sure going to make its 488 into a GT3 car, no doubt Aston will get a new car out the second SMS release the GTE Vantage.

Yeah... but they don't build a new race car just to laugh at game developers

The current crop of GT3 cars have been around for a decent number of years now.

On the contrary - they're in cahoots with the developers to keep them in DLC content. It's a conspiracy! A CONSPIRACEEEEEEE! :D

Yes, but GTE cars also get many waivers to bend the rules when it comes to the construction of the cars. A famous example is the Viper receiving a waiver for its 8.0L engine when the general displacement limit is 5.5L.

The bottom line is that a GTE car would require a significant investment from the factory to do it properly, but with the explosion in GT3 series around the globe and the fact that it's exclusively a customer category, manufacturers can actually make money selling GT3 cars. This, coupled with the free-er rulebook requiring less of a development budget, is what has made GT3 so attractive to manufacturers and the formula such an incredible success. I can't remember seeing anything like this level of success in sportscar racing in my lifetime (1980 onwards in case you're wondering...)

They're quite close though. Fastest lap in the 24 hrs of Spa was 2.20.546, which is only half a second shy of the GTE Am lap record.
That's an Am car that is at least one year old and driven by a non factory driver. At Silverstone the 458 GTE is 2.5 seconds a lap faster than the GT3 variant.

GTE has a rulebook but waivers are given out like tissues at a funeral, so the regulations are effectively obsolete. GT3 doesn't really have a rulebook in the first place, so waivers aren't required. It's just two ways of getting to the same destination.

It's not as cut and dry as you think. GTE cars are generally faster, but not always. The speed of the cars, from both classes, invariably depend on track characteristics, tires and BoP used, in addition to ever-present variables such as weather. Super GT GT3 cars are faster around Fuji than GTE-Pro cars. In the ADAC GT Masters, the Lambda Ford GT GT3 hit 2'19.3 at Spa, which is within a few tens of the best GTE-Pro times at the track.

Hey stranger:cheers:. Are you jumping on the Project Cars bandwagon like the rest of us? If so what platform?👍

Been a while JP.

For the time being, I'm not buying a gaming PC or a PS4/Xbox, so I'll remain on the sidelines for a while yet. Perhaps in a year or two I'll get back into driving/racing games, but for now I'll simply keep my eye on how this game develops from the sidelines. To be honest, I'm much more enthused by the prospects of AC than Pcars, even though I've played the latter and not the former. From the start, the populist concept of Pcars has been slightly off-putting, and my experiences in the WMD forums have not helped matters. I'm not abandoning it, just observing from a distance to see how it develops, for now.

Does anyone know the stats for the Group A cars? That was a category that saw many, many different BOP and homologation changes through it's relatively short life and so I'm curious to know how our 3 cars will compare with each other.

Especially given that the Sierra chosen is 3 years older than the others and can anyone confirm that DTM regulations of the time were a match to international Group A?
