I agree that pCARS is being developed with a different concept then iRacing was and still is being further developed under. However, that the concept is different and target group is larger does not have to mean that the finished product will have a compromise in simulation gameplay per say. For example you would not need to compromise the gameplay when using a wheel but with aids have to help the gamepad players a bit. You just have to make it playable for gamepad users and as real as possible for wheel users. In the end there is nothing wrong with opening up a whole new world for those who go and buy a wheel.

Audio issues are there. If you drive at low speeds like in the pits it sounds like your tires are locking up and there are curbs out on some of the tracks that have their audio misplaced or is not present. And I would like to have some curb audio for my BKG2. To be honest pCARS is currently in my opinion better with audio tactile feedback.

I think I know a bit more about development then you do to be honest. As I have been playing around with game engines and had a go with someone else on developing one at some point, as well as having worked at a company that developed a world wide known testing methodology.
What you are referring to has little to do with the speed of development there. It is just the release cycle for the updates and nothing more. In other words what you refer to is the interval of when an update gets released independent upon the quantity of changes made to the code of the game.

With "Unlike pCARS iRacing doesn't release buggy software for the most part. It is released ready to go" it shows me that you still have not understood where pCARS stands in its development cycle. iRacing is a finished game that gets major and minor updates, but pCARS is one year away from release.
Actually let us compare it to developing a new car model. You have one team from a company and they go develop the first sketches of the car and and another team works on the engine of the car. After the first concepts are finished and plans are written down they go to get support from their superiors and see if they like it. After the first concept has been approved they start to make the first prototype of the car with a used but great engine which they used in previous cars. With the prototype they will look for some investors (in the case of crowd sourced pCARS at least).
Okay, all up to this point was prior to and up till WMD opening to the public. The team developing the sketches are the SMS art team, the team on the engine are those of SMS working on the game engine (the Slightly Mad Engine) including all things including physics. They first go to the head of the company (Ian in the case of SMS) and if he gives the green light they decelop a first working prototype of the game. There after it was shown to the public and we all got involved. These are the first steps in the pre-alpha development stage.
After working on the prototype of the car/game we need to go to a working concept of the car/game. As you all know concept cars will still change a lot but they are in big lines how the final car will look. Now with the game we are still at the stage from prototype to a finished concept. If we reach finished concept the game will be in alpha stage. Which means that from pre-alpha to alpha you will see the most changes.
Even from alpha to beta there will still be enough changes though less noticeable. It is normally the stage where a concept car goes to production model prototype. And in beta stage it will go through heavy testing and tweaking to make the car perfect and safe to drive on a daily basis. When everyone is satisfied the car is finished and in the software world we will say that it has reached the Gold Master stage. The reviewers get a copy to review and the thing goes into production after which at a set date it is finally released to the public.

So yeah, still many changes to come in this pre-alpha stage. It is hard to write it off yet.

I agree with pCARS having crazy AI yet, but that is just a place holder. If you'd release a game with that AI it would be badly received with the public. Though a road rash kinda option would be fun indeed.
Talking about levels in options there is an AI aggression slider. Maybe you can play with that a little. ;)

I think pCARS will find a good home at PC as well. Like you say not everyone likes the concept of iRacing because of various reasons they tend to mention. If pCARS will be a more casual simulator then iRacing I am sure that they will attract a PC crowd that don't like to spend money on iRacing as it is expensive, they want AI to play against in a good singleplayer mode. Or go through a nice virtual racer's career in the career mode. And if they want to play with their mates they can go online in their own time, especially when they work all and the family goes first it is hard to find time for some.

So yeah, each of the games will have their own type of crowd. But the type of crowd the game attracts does not say much about if the game is or isn't a simulator. For instance Lewis Hamilton loves to play with his brother in a casual way as they love to drive each other off of the track. Though if I remember well he did say that sometimes they drive competitively. Hell, I think Lewis would love pCARS with the road rash AI. Haha
So yeah, not every professional race driver has to have the same demands of a game. Some will just play more seriously then others and so on.

You need to learn to punctuate your structures before I can even attempt to read this. Please try to sum up this mess in under 1000 words please, I'm not even going to try to read this mess.

For the rest of you that ask questions about my participation in pCARS, what makes you think I haven't discussed my concerns with the developers?

Why don't we leave it at this, or should I say, why don't I leave it at this :) pCARS will be a fun game to play, once WMD gets all the money from the investors that they require :) Don't be alarmed, the game will be out sooner, rather then later.

I for one can't wait. :)

Aha, the tired old "I can't argue my case so I'll discount what someone says on a minor technicality" Nothing wrong with the post you quote IMO.

You've discussed your concerns eh? So you expect them to just stop everything else they are doing to concentrate 100% on your concerns until they are fixed before you are happy? Seriously you are either a troll of the worst kind or you need to get real.

I am truly aghast, you seem to me to be a "black and white" sort of person, pCARS has to be a full on hardcore (not necessarily realistic) simulator and if not it's dismissed as Simcade. Can't you understand pCARS will be a "shade of grey" and is trying to STRADDLE the markets. It's trying to appeal to the Forza and GT people AND trying to stay true to the PC sim market. It's WAY more of a challenge than people imagine. Which is clearly demonstrated by people like you spouting complete nonsense on a regular basis.

Do you have ANY basis for you opinions on how a car handles? Have you raced a real car (and I MEAN properly raced not just track day stuff), have you driven the cars in reality (if you have then well done for getting to drive some sweet vehicles). But I doubt you've driven all those cars in reality. If you are comparing pCARS to finished products, then again your opinions are massively flawed. Not only that NO product out there is 100% accurate, EVERY sim will fudge something so that it "feels" right to one person or another. But that "feel" is highly subjective in the end.

If you have a point and a valid argument then discuss it, if you dismiss an argument by either ignoring it or citing a minor issue (like grammar, spelling, punctuation etc etc) then it's highly likely you DON'T have a point and a valid argument.

Okay I will put it simple. I agree about many points, but you really do not know anything about software development. This has shown in all your comments up till now.
You tread this game in your comments as a finished or almost finished game, which it is definitely not.

If we compare game development to the developing of a new car to market, we are at the stage of going from early prototype to first concept car. In car development as well this is where most changes happen to all facets of the car. E.g., just look at how much the Lancia Stratos prototype differs from the finished product.

In any case, I will leave you with that as you have decided to leave the discussion as is.

I have been on several software developmental programs, Lightwave 8 through 10, there have been a couple PS plugins and 1 or 2 small programs, so your first point you don't know what you are talking about. Tell me, how has this showed up in all my comments up till now? I tread this game in my comments as a finished? When did I ever claim this game as finished?

Your next paragraph you are comparing a cars developmental stage to software, well if you need to fine, but now it's you that appears to not understand how software development works. In your other long winded post you have copied some material that I have read elsewhere that was not penned by you.??? You don't need to sell this game to me, I have already purchased it. :)

It is clear to me, that we have fundamental differences on what a "SIM" is and what a "SIM" is not. I see in this thread many people that bruise easily if there is any thing written about a software game that they don't like. I was sold on a game that claimed it was going to be up with the truest of sim racers, while I asked the developers pertinent questions in this regards their answers were often vague and obvious that it is not going to be a true sim racer as I would expect it to be.

As I said many times, this title looks like it will fill a certain niche for certain players, it is obvious it won't fit the need for me. If some of you don't understand this I can't help you there.

If you have a point and a valid argument then discuss it,

Do you mean like the 500 words of drivel you just spouted? Don't bother responding please, I have seen your type before, argumentative and trollish.

This is thread for the discussion of tge game, its features and development. It is not a thread for sharing of personal acheivements, discussion of difference in program and car development and general insults. Not directed towards just you, but if you feel that way, report the post, PM the person, or move on. Please do not deface the thread with violitile "drivel."

I understand the sort of fustration you may have, but doing that only makes tempers flare even more.

I Love pCARS ! And I hope it blows all the competition out of the water. :D

I can second this. I hope it will too.

And as said above; let's get back on topic without trying to ripping each others hairs out. I don't feel much about comparing dick sizes either (pardon my French here).

Left888: I am not trying to sell anything and I never copy text without putting it in between quotes or a quote baloon like my quote of bermudakid ar the top of this post. And doing individual programming or working as a pro developer in a team are different things. Cause I never met an individual dev saying "oh yeah, now we are at ... stage". In any case, you will probably know these things as a fellow dev.

On Topic:

When do we get more track licenses? I wondered about this for a while now. Would be nice to see more familiar names in the selection menu. :)

At first I honestly didnt give a bloody damn about your ramblings. Opinions of people who make "nords in pCARS looks nothing like in real life!" out of "some elevation changes are off" at a track that is at around 75% competition of the alpha loft are imho useless most of the time.

But this quoted part has me interested - could you give me an example for this, please? Or alternatively your WMD username and I ll search for it myself.

I want to know too.

Also the first version of the NTM or STM was tested today for the first time by SMS staff, we may all try it in a few weeks:dopey:. Of course like all things in the games it´s WIP.

Yep, for people not in the know STM or NTM is the New Tire Model that AJ's been working. From Andy's (Andy Garton) comments it sounds very promising.

Also, seems like they've made some progress on AI - should be now a lot smarter about passing and avoiding collisions, although this hasn't made it into the builds yet (I'm not sure when either).

Haven't played the (pre-alpha :)) game in a while (mainly cause FIFA 13 is on the horizon and I need some practice), but once these two things make it into the builds, I'm going to be back to racing.

Just be careful guys. As with every new implementation of something no matter what it is, it will always be a bit disappointing at first until things are properly tweaked a few build iterations later. So wait a little before making a definitive judgement on the new tyre model. ;)

I can not wait to try it although I might be a tad disappointed at first I am sure.

Excited for a stable myltiplayer client set up. Playing the game and searching for bugs/glitches and giving feedback is ok, but being able to do it will a bunch of real people should be way more fun.

When is it supposed to be out?

When is it supposed to be out?

From what I read they still want to test the implementation and tweak the cars a bit before implementing it into a build for us. So judging from what Andy G says; could be this but also next weeks build. I reckon that it will be pretty soon. I think we don't have to doubt that it will be in before the next junior build.

Sounds good! I'll be watching the thread for the release to download!

You and me both, Jav. I hope Felix or another Senior Manager will give us a little preview to get us excited for a Friday build if it is released earlier in the week. ;)

Um....To me it read more like 3-4 weeks rather than this or next week. Basically Andy said not months (so less than 8 weeks), but that doesn't mean 1-2 weeks either, I reckon.

Track licenses are a long way down the line. Ian and Andy have both said that lawyers take a very long time about doing anything, and the licenses are still coming, but the have been in discussion for a long time.

I think the main issue is going to be cost. SMS will want the least cost for the licenses, where the circuits will want the most money for the licenses.

As far as cars are concerned, all SMS need now are Audi and Radical licenses.

Hell no! Audi, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Aston, Chevy/Holden, Nissan, VW

Imagine... The Classic DTM, DTM 2011, GT3, Aussie V8, BTCC, VLN Races...

What I meant was, they only need the Audi and Radical licenses to complete the cars they already have. I agree with you that some cars are mising; we really could do with some more GT2/3 cars, we still have the oval Midgets, Formula Atlantic, Indycar, *TCC cars to come. I guess we will have to wait and see what comes up, but I will say that I don't think the list of cars we currently have is anywhere near the final list.

That right there is damn right disrespectful, I can read it. You have to remember not everyone comes from a English speaking country.

I don't have a machine that could run this game, but it does look good. I might pick it up for the ps3 if there's a demo of some sort.👍

Well I hope they do something. Don't get me wrong, I've already stated I think pCARS will make a fine installments on the consoles but to play it now on the PC is torture. I am sure things will get optimized moving from Alpha to Beta but 5 minutes of playtime on my system and it feels like my eyes are burning.

Please don't jump all over me again, my opinion is shared by hundreds of people outside of this forum. My system is fairly new, I built it myself and this PC is only used for racing. :) You can see some of the specs in my Sig. I run triple 55" HDTV's at 5760 x 1080 pixels. I am running two GeForce GTX 570 in SLI mode. It's a modest system, basically a killer system for running the iRacing service and all the other fine racing games installed ATM but not what most people would consider a high end system.

I have all the Sim Bin games, they are what remains after WMD split but I know most of you know that. All the Dirt games, and a bunch others. I'm writing from my office upstairs on another i7. Between my girlfriend and my 17 year old son we have 8, i7's in the house. If they are all turned on at once all the neighbors houses remain blacked out. :D

ATM DX 11 won't play more then 5 or 6 FPS on triples which again needs some serious optimization. DX9 gives me a stout 60 FPS which also needs optimization once it goes pre release. As I mentioned earlier, the game play is terrible looking, now I'm not talking about all the rendered images you guys have been posting but actual game play.

Now no one has to remind me that this is still Alpha, lord knows I have been reminded enough. I have stopped taking any updates for 2 or 3 weeks now but the moment it is final I will play it and report back with an honest review. I'm sure with all the work that remains it is going to be a stellar release.

Now you're just being ridiculous, the physics are not up to scratch yet but gameplay is certainly not terrible looking and the images people have been posting are not rendered, they are gameplay. Sometimes completely raw, sometimes with extra FXAA injectors.

Seriously, that's the stupidest thing I've heard about pCARS so far.

@ Logi: Thanks for the flowers, but I aint no senior manager! :embarrassed:

@ lefft888: Thats a very unintere... eh, nice story. Care to answer my question? I ll even propose to support you in the pertinent questions that you supposedly asked the devs at WMD. Unfortunately I couldnt find any in your post history there. Huh!

If you look at those images they are mostly mid range as far as polygon count, I would think around 75,000 per vehicle. I don't imagine you have much experience with modeling and animation do you? I have almost 10 years of experience so when some of you people start with terms you don't even understand I think it's kind of funny.

I really don't understand why some of you feel so hurt, on the defense like you are taking it personal. Relax and chill, it's just a game. :)

Care to answer my question? I ll even propose to support you in the pertinent questions that you supposedly asked the devs at WMD. Unfortunately I couldnt find any in your post history there. Huh!

Like I said, I talked to the dev's about pertinent questions I had. If you feel the need to do the same, ask away, I'm sure they will help you out. :)
