I assume your referring to me since you decided to link my comments in the wmd fourm. I have read the post made about the game. I am completely aware of what is going on. I also wish I could comment more, but we both know that isn't possible right know.
I wasn't thinking of you. I wasn't aware that you're a WMD member, and you cleared that up and told us you've now read the WMD thread 👍 (I assume your position has changed after that(?))

I used your initial posting as an example of why we could use some 'ammo' to tell people what's really going on. So yes, frustrating that we can't use those details in the external (non-WMD) discussions.

Oh man, not sure how to feel about this. Was skeptical about this ever being brought out in the first place and now I'm even more so. On the other hand, the idea in theory is good.

This WoS sounds like a fantastic plan really.

It won't take as much time (majority of work is done in Pcars) so it won't impact Pcars' development as the two can be side by side, and it will also attract more to Pcars if they want a bit more seriousness but the same physics and stuff.

It also looks to set SMS up as a new player in racing games, as they're releasing two games independently and these may prove to be very popular indeed. Leading to the development of more games.

Bring it on, SMS, and lets see how fast these two games melt my PC's internals from sheer awesomeness!

For those wondering about the man power behind these two makes. 110 awesome dev peoples... with burgers. ;)

To think if I had payed more, I could've not only have been getting the newest build every week but I also could've had Burgers

With the poor sales of the Wii U, I'm still intrigued by this decision.

The decision is because there is no racing title on the Wii U. So it's a gamble to try and because THE racing series on the Wii U.

To be honest, I find the PS4 and XB1 just as big of a gamble as the Wii U. We still (or at least I don't) know which wheels are compatible with the PS4 or if there will be any at all. And the only decent wheel on the XB1 is the Thrustmaster TX wheel.

All the above consoles have gamepads, but the difference is just that the Wii U has no established racing title yet. In other words a possible hole to fill in the market.

I was told it depends on the developer itself making the game with older wheels in mind; and passing over the code to Sony/MS no? Has there been talk of that on the WMD forums?

Does it depend on the developer now as I wonder who has control over backwards compatibility of wheels? Fanatec for example blames MS/ Sony for it.

Regarding the Wii U version, I reckon part of the Wii U fate is all the doom talk itself, an some software houses reluctance to release games for it. In the end it might be a self fulfilling prophecy...

I see that Nintendo is still rolling out Donkey Kong and Mario for the 3.14e8th time... I know they have fans but in general it's so played out that it can't carry the console. If software houses did release other viable, titles things might have looked differently.

Anyway, there has been sold ca. 6 million Wii Us to date (ref). Even if only 1% ow Wii U owners purchased pCARS, that would bring in almost 3 million euro. At a guess that is more than sufficient to cover the development/production/distribution costs (it's cross development, so one additional platform is relatively cheap).

Like LogiForce said, SMS is unrivaled on the Wii U and they know it. Outside of the hardcore racing sim crowd, which is a niche audience, I reckon they've already got the most publicity among Wii U owners based upon that fact alone. The game is on pretty much every "must-have Wii U games for 2014" list on the web. Anyone with the console has been told by the press that this game will "showcase the hidden power" it has.

It's an open opportunity, almost like Gran Turismo back in the days before Forza. As with GT, they stand to gain sales from the average gamer with only a passing interest in cars, because it's "the one."

I disagree. The hype and demand for these consoles has been huge since January of last year and the sales figures should soon show it (if they haven't already). The Wii U has hardly had any mentions (and from what I hear, nothing really new either) and there seems to be apart from this game, not any sort of massive support from third party titles.

Also from what I hear (may need to check again), the PS4 supposedly is capable of supporting wheels.

Edit: Lets also not forget that the Sim racing genre itself is a Niche group as a whole (and that's including both the hardcore and casual racers) so I'm not sure this'll be the game that'll actually save or at least prop up the Wii U.

Mario won't carry the console, but when you add 'kart' to the title, it's game on. MK is such a marketable title that is loved by just about everyone and brings in a large audience

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/6968/mario-kart-wii/ - 34 million speaks for itself.

pCARS has a great advantage being the only type of game on the U as of yet, if the console versions ever actually exist. It could be pretty damn successful.

Well, if Mario Kart is a guaranteed sales success, then it will boost the Wii U's viability. Would you say it's the Gran Turismo of the Wii U, i.e. so that people will buy the console for it?

The console versions do indeed exist. The Wii U one will need some TLC to make the most of it (e.g. making use of the remote display thingie), but it has come so far along that I see absolutely no reason why there wouldn't be a release. The reactions from the Wii U community has been very positive too. Here's hoping that it doesn't go the naysayers way :)

I have just read the PC system requirements for PC (lol)

NVidia 9600 GT 512 mb ? Is this for real ? The graphics looks amazing and thats the minimum ? Im glad that my PC can still run this if this is true, the problem is i dont have money to buy the wheel :( . As much as i love GT since i was 6, i found my love for the series "fading out" slowly...

I'm pretty sure you can plug a controller to it

Does it depend on the developer now as I wonder who has control over backwards compatibility of wheels? Fanatec for example blames MS/ Sony for it.

I think people got the whole thing twisted simply because they heard a thing left and right without knowing how computers work under the hood.

Firstly the wheel manufacturer needs to make a console specific driver as well as an SDK for every product or products they wish to have supported on their chosen platforms.
This means getting licenses with the console manufacturers in place and where needed get communication chips/hardware from them.

After this first step is done, the second step is to advertise their hardware as compatible with console X and/or Y to the respective game developers.

Now the game developer can request the driver and SDK for the product(s) they wish to support on console X and/or Y. If needed they can also at that point order said product(s) for testing with the driver and SDK for testing purposes.

If this is all received the game developer will start with the implementation of the driver and SDK. They will test if the product is properly supported and will have to adjust/calibrate the FFB for a specific product or products if needed.

When all that is done, the product(s) is/are supported by the game and the game developer can add it to the supported controllers list and release it before launch of the game.

This is how it goes, step by step. There is no other way you can get something supported natively in a console game as supported needs to be implemented on a per game basis.

Yeah, so in other words for example from Logitech there are no confirmation whatsoever that they will or can provide the SDK for ps4, to get existing wheels supported?
Which is slightly worrying.

Which is slightly worrying.

Logitech has confirmed in a press release that they pulled out of the console market two years ago I believe. So I won't see that happening.
Which in turn has consequences for both Logitech and Fanatec users.

Thrustmaster, the third big party in this circus, also has not confirmed anything yet for PS4 I believe. At least I haven't heard anything yet.

So the only console with a working decent wheel is the Xbox One with the Thrustmaster TX wheel. There is the Madcatz wheel but... meh... who wants those? They make decent fightsticks since they use Sanwa joysticks and buttons (official arcade cabinet parts).

So yeah... a sad reality but it is a rough start for console racing in my opinion, so far at least.

On the pCARS topic:
Unrelated to the above, but after I found a small issue with odd 'bump start' issue. You could start the car in sixth gear. Casey now has started to implement bump start tweaks.
What this means is that you have to select the appropriate gear to bump start a car in. Plus more importantly that your car will start to stutter and stall at a too low RPM.

So yeah... small update but sometimes it is just those small little details that improve the experience and make a car behave like a proper car. ;)
