It's just really, really sad that racing sim games - as niche a sector as you're going to get, which relies heavily on the support of all corners of the dedicated community - gains an eejit like that who thinks "yes, this is the industry full of corruption and conspiracy that I need to expose." :indiff:

It's what you get with fanboys who tear down any game that competes with their preferred sim and sneer at anything they consider beneath it on the realism scale. Like, I get that Shift 2 Unleashed wasn't quite the game it promised to be, but some setbacks close to PCARS's launch don't prove that SMS are simply out to ruin everyone's dreams. And as a consumer, it doesn't necessarily matter to me whether Ian Bell or any of the moderators are nice guys -- they don't have to be.

The only rational thing to do is to heed the message that guy was trying to shame WMD members for repeating -- accept that the game still isn't finished yet, accept that it won't be "feature complete" at launch (something WMD has been transparent about for months already, at least here on GTP), and wait to see how much of it SMS can finish by then. Trying to make a scandal out of the game's level of polish at this point in time is just juvenile fanboyism.

Aren't you PS4/XBone/PC guys used to playing incomplete games after the past year, anyway? :P :sly: :cheers:

The 'valid reasoning' on that site? Like I said it's taking out of context.


First you have to realise that the World of Mass Development is a digital office and that every WMD member is considered as an employee and that he will act as a normal colleague.

Now if a WMD member declares his distrust in the company publically he will disturb the relationship with his superiors, Slightly Mad Studios.
If you for a second can imagine saying to your real boss "I don't trust you and your promises anymore or your way of doing things. Let me tell you how it should be done"... what do you think he'll do?

If you really want to change the boss his opinion or change the ways of the company you 'work' for, than there are different ways to communicate it without butting heads and taking the chance that you'll be kicked out.


Now what was the wrong context? The fact that the blogger thinks that WMD is a gamers forum in which you can say what you want in the way that you want without consequences. It should simply be considered as an office instead, including the expected hirachy.

How thick are you? It is not a digital office. People who are on there are not employees. Repeat that as much as you want, but you cannot escape the fact that it's just a game forum, full of people who have given their money to a company, with the expectation of the game they were promised years ago. I can't think of any company in the world that would expect its employees to actually pay them in order to be considered as employed. As a consumer (because that is what you are), you have a right to voice your opinion about what you feel is wrong about the game.

How anyone can think it's acceptable for a studio making a game that was originally based on community input and feedback to ban and effectively censor the very people that allowed it to exist is beyond me.

Okay, getting personal? No need for that, surely?

My explanation is about what kind of work environment was created in order to have a productive platform where everyone can converse in an adult and professional manner.

If you would all be emotional consumers, cause that is what consumers are these days, than we would not get anywhere with Project CARS. It would either still be a giant mess of undrivable cars and a billion bug... if we were bitching and moaning all the time and having fanboy wars.

One would have to be retarted to asume that a forum consisting only with consumer behaviour would be a productive environment to create a game on.


As for the technical term of what we actually are according to the financial watchdogs in the United Kingdom. We are investors and not consumers and not employees. But being called something doesn't create a good working environment to develop something like a game on with 3000 people (or whatever the WMD headcount is).
 
@Tesla -- Although I never bought PCARS, I signed up for the WMD forums at one point because I was considering it. I remember the terms/rules and automated welcome PM, and LogiForce is right. While WMD members are not SMS employees, the forum is explicitly described as a digital office, where WMD members are expected to act as colleagues working toward a common goal. I think they make it pretty clear that it's not a customer support forum where you "have a right to voice your opinion about what you feel is wrong with the game." They literally don't want opinions, they want feedback and ideas for improvement. It's not Kickstarter. Their crowdfunding platform, their rules.

At this stage, I'm sure SMS are a bit frustrated that members are asking about things like flag rules and detailed damage when the team is presumably doing all they can just to bugtest the game and get it out the door. I mean, there's no denying SMS have taken a long time to get this far, but what else can they do besides delaying it again? I'm just being realistic here.

@Tesla WMD is actually a digital office. While yes it has a forum layout. You will regularly see the devs discuss items and issues with other devs and the community. It works extremely well as people like Ben Collins can test new modifications to the tyre model and then report back on the WMD platform with out ever leaving his home. The developers will then discuss with him openly on the platform about his surf festoons and feedback. As such the platform is extremely transparent. This also have led to strict rules about unannounced things.

I believe we have only kicked a few people for ripping some cars from the game and also consistently breaking nda's.
However so far it the only early access type of game where the developer can actually get useful feedback. If you look at other successful crowd funded games they all work in a similar way.
 
Well after months of deliberation, (don't ask me how it took me that long ;) ) I've decided to pre-order Project CARS.

The thing I'm most looking forward to is easily the career mode. The 'Zero-to-Hero' career mode interests me the most as I quite like the way you progress up the ladder. And finally some freedom in terms of driving aids and realism, cannot wait for it to be released! :)
 
Like @Wolfe chimed about earlier, I barely ever expect a full finished operating game on PS4/XBOne these days. It seems to be the norm to release games that don't have all that was promised on release. However, in the case of SMS at least we have devs warning us that things may not be all rosy to begin with. From what I can gather, perhaps pCARS may seem like a project that got way too large to deal with as more features were edited and tweaked. Such is modern game development, people seem more interested in flashiness over substance. Also @Wolfe , anybody that uses a tripcode on 4chan doesn't even deserve anybody's time. :lol:

Hello GTPlanet :) I can't wait for this game to arrive. really happy they got Zolder in the game, it's just 5 mins from here :) Spa is 1 hour and the nurburgring 2.5 hours. Just love my location. Seeing the videos on this forum and all the friendly debates, I find this the best site to keep up to date about this game. thanks guys ;)

About the game, anyone an idea if there will be Peugeot's in the game? I just like their racecars like the 905 and 908.

Doesn't look like Peugoet will be making an appearance in PCars, thought a manufacturer was missing there. LeMans won't be the same without the 908 :(

My first race will be a 24 minute race at X60 time acceleration in the Audi R18 with a max grid at Sarthe. Will have a full grid of LMP1, LMP2, GT1, GT2, GT3 & GT4 class cars :D

I think (Not 100% on this) that a WMD member is anyone working on or contributing to a WMD game (Project CARS is the only one so far).

I'm also new to this forum and looking forward to this game. I'm so excited that Zolder is in the game because that is my home circuit. I also live 5 min from the circuit.

I'm pretty jealous, racing my car around Queensland Raceway is fun and all but I would be in heaven to be able to drive around Spa let alone have it as my local track...
