PS2 + 24 hour Endurance Race

I'm just wondering how long can you safely leave on a PS2? The most I've had it on was about 2 full days and tonight after work I think I'm going to attempt one of the 24 hour Endurance races so that I can win the Formula 1 car but with work and sleep it'll probably have to stay on for about 60-70 hours straight.
Is that fine?
Thanks

start early in the morning, let it run under b-spec mode. press R1 then hold L1 down and press right 3 times to speed the game up 3x normal speed. it should get u the F1 in about 12 hours if u remember to repeat the the steps regularly

Never heard of this. I'm starting tonight after work because this weekend seems like the best time to accomplish it, well except that I have to work 10-4 tomorrow and 12-5 on sunday but my girlfriend and my friends are gone out of town so the place is mine for many hours of Gran Turismo which is the reason why I'm doing the 24 hour race. Is there any real competition in any of the 3x24 hour endurance races?

OK, try this. Let the race start before you go to bed, and in the morning it will be about 10-12 hours done. Then it only takes 4 hours instead of 8

holding L1 and pushing right speeds up the game time in director mode only, read the manual :) the black nissan in the used car lot will do the trick. thats how i won my F1

I think the most important part of leaving your PS2 on for a long time, is ventilation. Try to have a good ventilation for non-stop fresh air-flow.

And you can keep it on as long as you want :)

I see, I've only ever B-spec'd once before and that was well over 6 months ago so I don't remember much. Well I have several top end cars that I can put in the race and I'll try the whole speed the game up. So without playing it, the car will know when to pit in/slow down/speed up etc?
I was able to buy 3 of the 4 black LMP cars, I was about 750,000 Cr short when the time came to purchase them, oh well I already own the R92(non black) so I opted not to buy that this time around.
Thanks everyone

I'm due to finish this race tonight. The PS2 will have been on for a solid 444 hours when I cross the line. Better still, it's my new slimline PSTwo. Overheating issues my arse.

This is from Famine's Endurance companion where he left the PS2 on continuously while A-speccing one of the Sarthe 24hr races. It amounts to 18.5 days of being on continuously and blew away all myths about the slimline PS2s overheating.

Myself I've A-specced both of the 24hr Sarthe Races, during which my 2001 model PS2 was left on for 4 days straight and 7 days straight, with no issues.
I've not done Nurburgring 24hr yet, but I'll be A-speccing that one too, although I'm saving this endurance for last, as a treat!!!

I think that pretty much clears up any issues you might have, whether you have either model of PS2.

That does clear up issues. Like I mentioned I have left mine on for a solid 48 hours and this time it may be on for 72 hours but I was just wondering if it was bad. They really should have a save button during those crazy long endurance races. I'll be A-spec'ing Nurburgring for the Formula one and I'll see about the other 2. Chances are I'll do it because I haven't B-spec'd any races yet so why bother now. 18.5 days is pretty insane. I got my non-slim PS2 new for christmas 2002.

I´ve heard of people leaving them on for two months straight, so no probs at all. See at as the computer, wich I hardly ever turn off. I just restart it once every other week, and you could most likely do the same with the PS2.

I thought I'd finally let bob have sume fun at the wheel and maybe earn some B-spec points (still have 0 lol)

I noticed (at least in US version) that every time he pits it knocks him out of the 3x speed directors' mode, so still have to check in on him every 10 minutes or so (depending on his pit-in time) to switch back to director & boost the speed again.

too bad can't watch the race in 3x speed, would be kinda funny to see Bob eat a wall at 600mph :D

I'm definitely gonna need a refresher when Bob's done with the car, he refuses to pass a car until after he has rear-ended it at least 3 times.

Don't know about the slimline, but I once left my old PS2 on for 2 weeks straight because I got into Gran Turismo 3 and had no memory card yet. I've only left my slimline on 12h at the max, simply b/c I've yet to do a 9+ hour race.

Amuse S2000 road cars pwns. A couple of updrages and you got a win. I did it for a 200pts race last summer in stock i think stock can't remember.

Yeah but evrytime it pits, it switches back to regular speed so to take advantage of the speed up (x3 is the max) thingy, you have to basically be near the ps2. :) They weren't going to make it that easy.

Left mine on for 2-3 weeks to do the Nurburgring 24hr with no problems whatsoever, just keep pets and anyone else in the house well clear of it and it'll go for ages I'm sure. Just hope you don't have a power cut ;)

If anyone is going to consider leaving their console on for an extended period of time, please use a real UPS, not just a surge protector. What most people consider as "clean" electric power is anything but, so use the UPS to ensure not losing your partially finished race and risk possible damage to the console.

Cheers,

MasterGT

Did all of you really leave your PS2's on for days? I got a slim PS2 and whenever I play for 20 mins or more, it starts to get real hot. (right now its cooling down. :grumpy: )

Go Here and click on the 'Important Saftey Announcement' on the Right and check Your PS2 as mine was getting hot easily and i checked and i had a faulty Power Adapter. When i got my new one i can play on games for ages.:)
I Still did the 24Hr races though with a Faulty Adapter and a Big Fan blowing air onto it.:sly:

In the end, it was on for 468 hours straight with NO problems at all. But mine isn't kept on the floor, or on a shelf, or tucked in a corner somewhere. It's on top of a desk with lots of lovely airflow around it.

As I said in my endurance thread, my other half wasn't allowed within 8 feet of the console at any time during my 24 hour races. This meant she had to crouch a little near the front door, but otherwise all was good... :D

A UPS is the only way to go... :D
