PS3 General Discussion

Little Big Planet is the most innovative game I've ever seen. I can see this as machinima heaven. I have to admit that I would buy this if it came out tomorrow just for the creative aspect of the game. Sadly the trailer is misleading, you have to see the GDC video to understand that its not so much a game, you make it into a game.

"Home" looks like Sony is trying to kill of game sales all together :) I'm all for "Home" sign me up for the Beta.
I had never heard of this before, and it certainly looks to be quite unlike anything that's been on a console before... I don't know about the whole 'appealing to a younger demographic' though - looks more like a stoner's dream...

As for PS Home, there's a bit about it on the BBC News website this morning. Given what I've just seen on the Little Big Planet trailers and the virtual 'world' that PS Home will offer, I reckon the possibilities are endless

PS Homes way of doing achievements looks way better then the way the Xbox 360 does its achievements.

guys I can't read 589 pages so could some one tell me when the PS3 is supposed to be launched in europe?

ok TVR&Ferrari_fan saw it under your name :D

Wow just heard about this HOME thing..... watched the promo video on gamespot, it looks amazing, like the sims and second life merged together with the power of the PS3... The achievements systems looks cool as well with your own trophy room!

BUT! How much is all this gonna cost, does it cost to access the social network or is that free and add on's you pay for? If its going to cost tons then its not going to be that great in my eyes.

Also, apparently a new Killzone trailer has been shown.. I dont know where you can go and see it!! Here is the article......

To my knowledge "Home" will be a free download from the PSN and logging on, getting your avatar and a "pad" will be free as will basic furniture etc and so on. There will be premium content you can buy from the Playstation Store but they're not needed to use "Home".
All the games that can be played such as Pool, the arcade games are free. Generally speaking it really doesn't have to cost anything.

Just to add. This "Home" has really irritated 360 fanboys and Wii fanboys. On every site I've visited the gaming press seem to have been pretty much well won over by Home, and certainly Little Big Planet. And yet you still get those who can only ever lay into Sony and bleat on about the same old FUD they always have. It's like their pride has been hurt. Someone writes "this makes Xbox Live look last gen" and regardless whether you believe this or not the vitriol that spews from some fanboys is unbelievable. I think this proves, beyond doubt, that the internet is littered with ignorant and ill-informed individuals who refuse to simply enjoy the games they like without resorting to petty insults, crude ill-informed statements and idiocy. I mean I know it's obvious but it just goes to show that Sony was taking a hammering from the get go. And though there are still criticisms that can be levelled at Sony (such as the inability to upscale 720p games to 1080i) I really do not understand the FUD that is at the core of hundreds of pointless and unhelpful posts.
Sorry to go on, but it really grates on my nerves. You can say you don't like "Home" certainly. You can say you'll never use it. But you can't say it's crap or another Sony copy (yeah, it's similar to The Sims/Second life/Mii/360 Achievements but then Forza is similar to Gran Turismo). The fact is it's a good idea with tons of potential. Yes, Sony could screw up if it's badly managed. But as of right now it's just so cool! And LBP is uber cool!

What I dont understand is people passing home's 3-D avatars off as stupid, childish and a waste.
I can understand the point of view. I would never use it, and I think it is resources that could be better used elsewhere.
Earth
If that's the case, then all video games are stupid childish and a waste, because aren't the 3-D characters/car drivers we control in games essentially avatars of ourselves?
No. As you said, this "Home" may end up like The Sims. Living out your life, as in day to day habits, in a video game. Playing some racing game is not living out your life. I personally think there is no more worthless of a genre in video gaming than the "Life Simulators."

Yet they are the most popular. MMORPG's are essentially Life Simulators, just a fantasy life.
Thing is at the moment if I want to communicate with a friend in say Japan or the US I can phone or use a webcam on the internet. Fine. But maybe I have a video of my pet dog doing something silly which they'd like to see. I could post a copy or upload it for them etc. Now they can just watch it from my PS3's HDD. I can have friends and listen to the same music at the same time with all of them whilst chatting etc. Though I am certainly not into this Second Life thing what I do like is the ease of which I can share things with friends that I may not normally easily share things with. I like that. I like sharing.
It's not going to float everyones boat and there will be some who simply do not like it, for whatever reason. But it can't be pooh-pooed. Home isn't aimed at hardcore gamers, thank God. It's for anyone.

Wow, thinking about it you could have a clubhouse for GTPlanet on Home so you could actually chat in a real setting with people, GT photomode comps winners could have their fine art displayed on the walls and videos of great laps could be playing on the plasma screens! kinda cool stuff! Sony really has scored some points for this one, 360 is going to have to up the stakes of its live service... I wonder if at some point MS will decide to make all online play free to compete...

Im surprised no one has jumped about the new Killzone info, I guess thats because nothing has been released to public yet apart from descriptions.....

I'm sorry, but it seems you've lost touch with FUN. If people think this is FUN ( you know, getting together with people to play games online? Even if it is the sims, there's still arcade titels, pool, bowling, etc, to enjoy with people online)...then where is your beef?

Seems like you're just complaining to complain.

My beef is that, other than the actual online aspects, such as the online games like billiards, it seems like a waste of hard drive space and of company resources. Yeah, its a cute feature. However, I'd rather have Sony focus on more pressing issues than trying to make a free version of the Sims Online.

Seems like you're just complaining to complain.
Probably, depending on how it ends up.

However, I'd rather have Sony focus on more pressing issues than trying to make a free version of the Sims Online.

What do these issues have to do with GDC? Sony isnt focusing on one perticulur thing, "Home" has more to do with GDC then fixing issues with PS3 software. They could very well be working on everything to fix and improve there incomplete feeling network. Also Sony has hundreds of staff and software programers. Home is agreat idea its not a replacement and its an option. It looks pretty cool and it opens many possibilies.

You must have missed Sony Announcing Playstation Edge for developers. Highly optimized tools(for both Cell SPU maximizing usage and RSX dedicated libraries) and SDK to get more performance out of the system. Thats bigger news to me than "Home". Game 3.0 seems like a catch phrase of some kind but so far its just typical Sony chatter. So Sony is not focusing on "Home", they are focusing on many aspects to shift developers into going that extra mile with software, making better games, better graphics and integrating "Home"'s trophies into games. Its a free option. The verdict is still out however. The concept behind Little Big Planet is awesome too. A Community powered game, users create the content. but the release date is so far off its ridiculous.

Tornado, I think you misunderstand what home is.

Home is not The Sims on PS3

This is all home is: A 3-D Forum for videogames.

This is NOT what home is: A 3-D life simulator. Just because you have an 'apartment' doesnt mean home is a life simulator. Your 'apartment' is a 3-D 'Private chat/whatever you wanna call it' room. Not a place to eat and use the restroom etc like the Sims.

In Game 2.0 entering a online game like Madden 2007 other people would show up as a TEXT message. For example, I would be 8 letters 'bluearth'. Even now, you see me as 'Earth' with a small picture for an avatar, hardly interactive.

Now with Game 3.0 home you will see a 3-D model of myself, not just a 8 letter word. I will be able to walk up to you and chat with you instantly with a blutooth headset etc etc.

Robin//// makes some good points. Jordan could rent a GTPLANET.NET 'clubhouse' for all GTplanet.net users to gather and discuss GT, share photos of GT, vids in 3-D. MUCH better then this Internet 1.0 forum

Home made an appearance on the local Fox station here. The anchors were talking it up pretty good.

Fox liked it? Home's doomed!:sly:

Just to add -bbc news
It would seem this whle MMO thing is going to explode over the next few years. But there will be casualties. Saying that it does show how poular these things are, particularly in Asia. Maybe in the US and here in the UK we're cooler to this but then again, maybe not.

Nah, I just don't like Fox, apart from the Simpsons. Murdoch still owns The Sun newspaper and the News of the World, two of the worst tabloids in the UK (though not as bad as The Daily Mail). They make the National Enquirer look like The Washington Post.
Still it is good to see more essentially positive reaction to Home. It can only be a good thing in the end.

Home = Second Life

Little Big Planet = Generic platformer with ZOMG LEVEL EDITOR.

Just pointing out the obvious.

Except in Home I don't think you can go places nude and buy certain body parts.

And home has better graphics.

Does anyone know any good Blue Tooth or USB headsets, which cost in the range of £15 to £35, which work really well in Games?

But I want to spend mainly £25.
