PS3 General Discussion

Great link 👍 Thanks :D

GTP Clubroom  How much fun will it be to go over to your mate's beautiful Home and trash the place?!
A club room would be neat for GTP, but Touring Mars, soon GTP will know what uses I will do with the PS Home in the community, which you know about.

Indeed, I reckon PS Home will offer all GTP users a unique new way of interacting... (God, I sound like Phil Harrison :ouch: )

I can't believe the reception the full LittleBigPlanet demo gets - amazing that they included that in the keynote speech - lucky SOB's couldn't have dreamt of a better plug than that.

Gen
Home = Second Life

Little Big Planet = Generic platformer with ZOMG LEVEL EDITOR.

Just pointing out the obvious.
Hard to please, eh? I think you're grossly under-estimating what LittleBigPlanet could do. PS Home also looks like it has bags of potential...

Well I wouldn't say it's a seller for me. Need something big.

The moment MGS4 or RE5 is out I'm hitting PS3, but for now, I'm staying the hell away from PS3. Wii is included, as it's all gimmicks. So far.

On that page bottom right in the video list

The Full Sony GDC 07 Keynote Speech... Great run through of Home..... looks amazing!! GTplanet clubroom would be cool!
Hey, I had posted that. Not very clearly, obviously..

Well, I'm hoping to participate in the Beta. That site says "Website © 2007 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. All rights reserved." So that's an EU only Beta? Will there be seperate Beta's in the US, Japan etc?

Edit: There's a pdf of Home Q and A's here. Interesting read.

Does anybody here know where I can find a 1080 size pic of Home?
Of the logo or screenshots?

I can get you raw 720p captures…

I am much the same, although I need GTA4 or a Gran Turismo game, when they near, PS3 is mine.

For fans of simulation driving games, F1CE will certainly not disappoint. 👍

For those that want to enjoy a really well done online racing game, again, F1CE will not disappoint. 👍

For those that are also fans of Formula 1 games, this is easily the best F1 game that has been released on any platform to date, and there have been many! 👍👍

The more time I log playing this game, the more it impresses me!

What Surround Sound Systems are you lot using for your PS3's, and how much did the Surround Sound System you brought cost you?

I already have a 5.1 (7.1 actually) a/v receiver. Got it a few years ago. Pioneer VSX1011 (it's been discontinued for a new model now). 100watt per channel, DTS ES and DD EX, 7.1 input for LPCM and THX certified. My speakers are cheap (but adequate) save for some Mordaunt Short 903's at the rear and a Sony centre speaker. Oh yeah, the amp cost £500 new. The speakers were £150 for a pair (2 pair - front and rear), centre speaker £80 and the Mordaunt Shorts a snip at £90.

Unfortunately to get the best from the PS3 I will have to get a amp with HDMI and LPCM decoding. But I'm waiting for the ones with True HD etc.

I want a Surround Sound System with HDMI sound input and 5.1, but I don't know what one to get for between the prices of £250 to £450. However Dolby TrueHD will sound great with the PS3, but it is a shame my Surround Sound does not accept HDMI or Optical Sound.

So I will have to wait a couple more months, before I can get a surround sound system, which can support 5.1 from the PS3, while still displaying the images to HDMI.

I am using a crappy old Hi-Fi that was left by an old housemate (because the CD changer no longer works (or even plays a single CD!), with some Sony satellite speakers kindly donated to me by my mate and ex-housemate, Tim... the end result is quite unbelievable considering the whole set-up cost me absolutely nothing! A bit of careful placement of the surround-sound speakers and Bob's your uncle!

As for an actual 5.1 or 7.1, have you looked on sites like www.pricerunner.co.uk? I know that Creative do some good surround sound systems that are also pretty affordable... e.g. http://www.pricegrabber.co.uk/search_getprod.php/masterid=2905864/search=creative+7.1/skd=1

Just wondering is there a way to convert the PS3's optical out into a pc style outlet? (like 3mm jacks for front and rear) because I want to use my PC speakers with it??

Also is there a way to convert optical out to normal coaxial (red and white) input plugs?? This way I can use it with my amp...

I wish there was a way to get HDMI sound through my Surround Sound System, since it only accepts Phono as a sound input. But do you think the optical out from the PS3 will convert to Phono through this:

I'm using PC speakers with my Ps3 :) Klipsch Pro Media 2.1. I guess I got lucky because at first i could not figure out how to do it. They are hooked up to my PC full time and its then connected through the Mp3/Ipod jack via rca to 3.5in jack to my video/audio switcher then to the 360, ps2 and ps3. Its perfect for my small gaming area with 23IN HDTV.

Does anyone know how to make a new username for the PS3. My current one is Seneca_89 but i want to change it to my name here on gtp just so when i add people, they will recognize my name. I just cant figure out how to do it.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just read on the playstation website, that once it is created, it cannot be changed. That is incredible terrible! Is there anyway to do it?!

EDIT (again): Nevermind, I figured it out! I just created a new user for my ps3, and it allows you to sign up a different time for the Playstation network.

This is also how you can access the different Sony Stores outside your region. Create new users, and make their location in the same region as that Sony Store. Just one thing to remember, the files/games will often be in the language of that region. :)

One question though for those in the know, how many different users are you limited to on one PS3, and is there, or will there be away to play under your user name on someone else's PS3?

For instance, if you are going over to a friends house to play with them on their PS3 and you want to play under your user name for reasons like stats, friends list, etc - is there a way, or will there be a way to do that? Perhaps this might be possible using a USB drive, transferring your user information temporarily over to their PS3?

Sorry, but no. I call bullshot. Either that, or it's one of those cutscenes where the entirety of the system's power is being used to render just that one character. Like the menu screen on God of War, that's a real-time Kratos with more detail and better lighting than most next-gen models. But no way in hell that's the in-game model. Ditto for that Heavenly Sword shot.

Ahh, are there different demos and such with different regions' ps stores?

And, the ps3 allows up to 16 users on one ps3 at a time.

And I dont know about your last question, but that would be cool.

That seems like it would work but the sound quality looks questionable because its going to only one yellow plug, ideally you want optical to go into left and right outputs. I guess there is no easy way unless your amp has a optical input..... which is a pity because I have coax inputs on everything!!!
