PS3 General Discussion

Any word on if/when we are going to start seeing custom soundtracks? GTA4 seems perfect for that sort of thing.
When Sony allows the XMB to be used in a game. Could be weeks, could be months. I'm guessing it'll be before September since Home is going to allow you to see your friends list in-game...

Here's a worthless-yet-intriguing comparison of MGS4, Crysis, and Uncharted.

...And Splinter Cell: DA for PS3 is reviewed by IGN, and gets a 7.9 (compared to a 9.0 for the 360 version), supposedly for the following reasons:

IGN
Graphically, the game looks good, but falls short of the detailed display Sam saw on Xbox 360 last year. Players who ran through the paces in Microsoft-land will notice a slower framerate and the loss of a few small details (things like a smaller quantity of fights during the prison riot, different textures on character close-ups and no goggle-toggle when tossing on Sam's specs).

There are other areas where Sam and company suffer from a bout of PS3 hiccups too. In some instances, for example, snow falls everywhere but the top left-hand corner of the screen; Sam's hands occasionally clip into walls while he hacks at a wire; and the camera will sometime flip out as our hero climbs across a pipe. These miniscule glitches are forgivable, however, and it's actually quite fun to pull enemies into icy ponds, crack safes and hide in the shadows. Plus, the PS3 gets two additional multiplayer maps and a female spy that the 360 never saw.

<cue Robin looking at this and wigging out> :P

It's funny, but the PS3 Oblivion gets roughly the same score as the 360 version (.1 less in fact) but they said it was -
Among the best looking PlayStation 3 titles released thus far and a step up compared to the Xbox 360 version
That obviously counts for nothing as it has no influence on the score. To be fair the 360 version did receive an update that did slightly improve the game but I'll see what differences there are once I play the PS3 version. They mention the missing downloads the PS3 version doesn't have but that should have no bearing as the 360 version was released without them either.
I don't care about scores etc but I do wonder at the methodology used, though to be honest I don't think there is one. I think reviewers just come up with a number. They should get rid of scores for reviews anyway. It's childish and used as the food of Trolls.

It was made by the same team that butchered the PS2 version. This was expected from what I read on gamefaqs once they saw who was making it.

Not $60 worthy. should have been $50 at most.

Edit: Oblivion is not a 360 port. Its was ported from the PC just like the 360 version. Bethesda Only had Oblivion for PS3 to work on so all their attention went into making it a great pc port.

It's the highest ranked PS3 game on IGN. As for their graphics rating, they do those in .5 increments... and I doubt the PS3 version of Oblivion has better graphics to warrant a .5 bump-up from the original 9.0 score.

But whatever. It's only a .1 difference, not a 1.0 difference... and a 9.2 for any game is an excellent score.

Yeah, well, for every troll who uses scores as flamebait there's 3 other people out there who use review scores to see if they think a game is worth $60. People want a quick glance on how such and such game is, and a score is the best way to give people such a glance.

Of course there is the unwritten .5-1 points that IGN automatically subtracts from the score for any PS3 game. ;)

Too often I have found their reviews to be riddled with inaccuracies and often lead me to wonder exactly what are the credentials required to be an IGN reviewer? An email address? An XBL gamer Tag? ;)

OK, so ThreeSpeech is claiming Bioshock is coming to PS3, which I doubt because I'm positive MS paid 2K out the wazoo to keep it 360 console exclusive.

http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=377

MS paid nothing to 2K games, in fact, 2K games has already hired a very large PS3 development team, and has said "nothing" about what project they're working on. Given the excitement behind BioShock, I find it hard to believe it will stay exclusive.

Broken record? Of course, I've already told youa ll the console exclusives are dead.

MS paid nothing to 2K games,

Well, development for Bioshock started out in development for PC, 360, and PS3... but then at X06 2K announced it would be 360 console exclusive. I'm not sure about you, but developers don't just initially call a game multiplatform, then make it exclusive for no reason. I doubt it's dev costs, because they know Bioshock will sell well on the PS3, and they could recoup all the added expenses and more.

really? You sure?

When Assassins Creed was first announced at X06, MS said it was console exclusive. WHen it showed up at E3, it was PS3 exclusive, and then finally around TGS, it was Multiplatform.

Hmm...

Here's a nice interview with Ninja Gaiden Sigma game Director Yosuke Hayashi:

http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200704/N07.0406.1421.46109.htm?Page=1

I think all those developers who are saying, “We don’t want to do a PS3 game,” or “It’s really difficult to do it,” should shut up and make their games. If you have time to complain about it, then you should be spending your time working on getting the most from the hardware. It’s really about, at the end of the day, showing what we can do as developers

Is "lol" required in every one of your one-line responses?

was there really anyneed to post that, you could've asked me to try and limit it's use by way of PM...

if you don't like it don't read my posts, or even better block my posts.

sorry for trying to lighten the mood every now and then...

anyway back on topic, is guitar hero 2 out for ps3 yet, as it has just come out for 360, ands it is simply wicked imo. I thought it would be a bit orkward(had to get pissed to finally hire it out, so i had an exuse for being so awful "lol") but i really enjoy, i think it would help a few people turn to the ps3...

Guys, please can it.
Not the time, not the place.

Does anyone have any ideas of how best to clean the PS3's? I'd like something to ward the dust off for longer than a day.

A wife.

But seriousley, Short of locking it away, which is likely to cause it to overheat, your best bet is to keep putting your marigolds on and get the duster out.

I clean mine with the cloth that was provided to be with the Samsung TV. It works well.

I've had the first problem with my PS3. Well, possibly.
My F1:CE game suddenly stops wanting to play. I looked at the disc and lo and behold thas a hairline crack; very, very thin radiating out from the centre hole which was (obviously) not there before. I've never had this problem before on any game on any system or DVD or CD. Why now?:nervous:
Bloody annoying as I was about halfway through F1 and it's going to be a week or longer fro the replacement.:grumpy:
I'm hoping it was just a faulty disc (Is it me or are the PS3 BD ROM discs a bit, well..flimsy?) and not my PS3 causing the problem. I should get a replacement from Amazon where I got it from but it's bugging me now. Did my PS3 cause the crack? I do think it was a faulty disc. But I'll say now I'm not absolutely sure...:scared:

If the ps3 had a standard DVD drive and not a blue ray player how much would it cost?

Sony has made a gamble to include its blue ray player right from the get go, which made it more pricey. However you have to respect that decision, MS were too soft and stuck with DVD which made their system much cheaper. Maybe if MS had stuc with HD DVD and included that right from the get go things would have been interesting.

In the end i respect sony's gamble and i hope it pays off for them. Blue ray will be a big factor in the success of PS3 and PS3 will be a big factor in the success of blue ray.

No, unless you can think of some way for the PS2's GH2 guitar to work.

Get a wife or a maid. Or put it in an airlocked plastic showcase and stare at it until GT5 comes out. Or you could just dust it off once a day.

The same price as the 360, maybe a little higher.

Just to add Amazon have already replied to me and are sending me a replacement.👍
I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again.
