PS3 General Discussion

Isn't this supposed to be the first game to fully utilize the BD and make the PS3 version much, much better or was that just rumor?

E3 2007: PS3 title lineup

With only one month remaining until E3 2007, we have compiled a list of PlayStation 3 titles currently confirmed to appear at E3 2007. Be aware that, while all these titles are currently confirmed, the occasional developer can't finish an E3 demo and as a result a game could drop off at the last minute. Also, more titles like Take Two and Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV will most likely be shown, but have not been confirmed to have an E3 showing. Regardless, here are all PlayStation 3 titles confirmed to be shown in some way, shape or form at this year's E3.

This year will be interesting.
It's just a shame that we have to wait so long for some really decent games to come out. I'm glad I have a PS3, but I haven't been impressed at all by the length of time it is taking to get some really good titles out for it. My wishlist is still, sadly, a distant prospect - I knew getting the console at launch was not the best plan, but I didn't expect there to be such a dearth of decent games for such a long time...

My current wishlist looks like this (with provisional release dates referenced from Amazon.co.uk, where I will probably buy the games from...)

  • GTA IV (October, 2007)
  • FIFA '08 (September, 2007)
  • Assassin's Creed (September, 2007)
  • MGS4 (March, 2008)
  • GT5 (March, 2008 - no chance!)
  • Call of Duty 4 (November, 2007)
  • GRAW 2 (August, 2007)
  • FF XIII (mid 2008?)
  • Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway (November, 2007)

Plus, the 'games' available from the PS Network (with the sole exception of GTHD, which is hardly a 'game') are almost universally complete pants.

I have never owned an Xbox and have been a loyal PS user since the word go, but I seriously hope the 'flagship' games we are having to wait so long for are going to be worth it. I'm even considering buying an Xbox (to play Forza 2) since the main title I'm waiting on (as you might expect) is GT5, and that could be a very, very long wait, even from today...

The wait is as I expected. The initial launch games and a few late ones coem out to look pretty and sell the system, but then anything really big will be put off until mid-late fall so that they will sell like crazy for Christmas. I am sure at least a couple of fall releases will actually be waiting for a couple of months so the anticipation will help sell more than just a Q3 launch?

You don't really think all developers just happen to finish all games within a two month window do you?

No, but the good people at Sony obviously haven't done much research into the PS3-buying demographic... much more so than previous consoles, the PS3 has been priced well above what most people would consider buying on a whim, atleast here in Europe anyway... I reckon here in the UK, the only people with PS3's are spoilt children, young professionals with high disposable incomes, and hard-core gamers who saved for ages for the machine (I'm a mixture of the last two :sly: )

With that in mind, the spoilt kids will get the games when they ask for them. But the folk that actually have the cash will buy them whenever, and hence I don't see the point in targetting the Xmas market - since developers will only trip over each other... it seems that Sony don't realise that there is a higher-than-usual section of their customer base who have the money and the desire to buy a shed-load of games right now, but who are being frustrated by the lack of available titles.

Meh, where's my coffee :grumpy:

I'm a partial mix of all three I guess. I saved up for part of mine, but had the disposable income to do so, and the rest came from birthday money requests. I also got a Wii for Christmas.

So what do you ask for at Christmas? My family dreads the post system launch Christmas because I am guaranteed to have a list of games they know nothing about and a list of movies they have never heard of. I have to put my entire list into a Word document with hyperlinks to Best Buy, Amazon, and Wal*Mart so they have options and know what the picture looks like.

Somehow, my in-aws still manage to buy me bright yellow sweatshirts one-size too small because they think I don't wear enough bright colors, and when I do it usually has a beer logo on it. They also seem to think I don't enjoy being able to breathe.

My point is: I can go out and buy any game I want because I budget myself some disposable income, but if waiting a month or two, or three means saving $50-$60 then I will do it. Of course, the fact that big boy toys are getting more expensive with the growing HD market could explain why many Christmas totals have been down the last few years.

Someone should do a study on this.

Winning Eleven 2008/PES7 looks HOT!
Not really. It looks like a sun-bleached towel ran over by a semi.
Isn't this supposed to be the first game to fully utilize the BD and make the PS3 version much, much better or was that just rumor?
Well, I thought it would be true since Famitsu (or some other Japanese magazine) had PES7 with 18GB plastered on the front cover... but IGN's preview made absolutely no mention of it.

Personally, I'm disappointed as well – when I bought my system back in December I thought that Motorstorm would tide me over until Lair, which I thought would be released in June. Of course, that hope was shot with an August 8th date.

But you need some more games on your list – where's Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, and Lair? I mean, those titles sold my system. I wouldn't have bought a system where the only exclusive titles you wanted came out in 2008.

Plus, the 'games' available from the PS Network (with the sole exception of GTHD, which is hardly a 'game') are almost universally complete pants.

Well, you're in Euroland. You'll be getting Calling all Cars today, as well as Super Stardust HD next week (and those titles are/will be some of the best downloadable games available on any system).

Besides, when Warhawk comes out, you'll probably love it. It's a PSN game but for me, it's better than most games available today.

Can't read IGN at worked (blocked) but nothing else I've seen has mentioned it either.

So does that mean the only BD advantage we get so far is a mediocre movie packaged with what looks to be a mediocre game, in my opinion?

I have to agree about Lair. My wife saw the trailer on PSN and even she wants it, and she hates fantasy/dragons based stuff. Of course, she did refer to it as "that game with teh flying horses" once. :indiff:

Besides, when Warhawk comes out, you'll probably love it. It's a PSN game but for me, it's better than most games available today.
Has the rumor of a headset packaged with the disc version been confirmed? I can find stuff about the collector's edition materials but only rumors about the headset. I'm shopping around for a headset but if this is true then I will wait and get this instead.

Well, The Darkness will have little TVs scattered about (nothing useful, just background clutter like refrigerators in Resistance), but the devs are putting on a ton of full length cartoons (so the BD space won't be wasted) and stuff so you could theoretically watch a show on the TV for a while. The 360 version doesn't have such a thing.

And Lair will use the BD quite well with its massive scale. I'll have to find a photo of an entire level (I posted it here before), but it's huge.

But yeah, other than that, nothing meaningful so far. Has the rumor of a headset packaged with the disc version been confirmed? I can find stuff about the collector's edition materials but only rumors about the headset. I'm shopping around for a headset but if this is true then I will wait and get this instead.

Yeah, it was confirmed at the SGD event.

But then again, you could always buy your headset now and buy Warhawk on PSN.

Good news about Warhawk, didn't realise it was a PSN game. However, I read a review of 'Calling All Cars' which basically tore it to shreds, so I think I'll be saving my money on that one!

Like I turn and look at it or hit the action button to view and it zooms in? I'll have to see how that comes out.

I'll have to look it up and see what it is and if it will work on my cell phone. If so then it will most likely be cheaper (especially if EB and Gamestop's listed $40 is true), but if it won't work with my cell phone or isn't rechargeable then I doubt I'll use it.

In case you can't tell I am a big compare and contrast guy when it comes to buying stuff. Even then, when I know what I want and it is usually something that goes on sale every so often I will refuse to buy it until it goes on sale.

Fixed. :)

Guess who told me this:
CAC is an excellent party game. If you just play by yourself, it'll be a game where you play for 10 minutes once every two weeks for the next six months.
:sly: That made me decide not to get it.

That's because it's the xbox360 version and the game isn't even gold yet. Ps3 version is going to look hotter than an ihop griddle.

New news is going to be released tommorow or something.

Like I turn and look at it or hit the action button to view and it zooms in? I'll have to see how that comes out.

Nope, I don't think there'll be an actual "sit" button or anything that focuses on the TV. You'll just have to look at the TV by pointing at it or something.

I seriously doubt it'd be $40. I'm guessing that the PSN version of 'Hawk will be $30, so I don't think you'd get a Bluetooth headset and special documentaries for only $10 more.

Guess who told me this:

:sly: That made me decide not to get it.

That about sums it up. You have friends over, it's a must buy. If you don't... think carefully about it.

Hotter than an Ihop griddle? We'll see. ;)

The PS3 is so useless I let my friend borrow it. For some reason his wife wants a PS3 so they can play their PS2 games on it, oh and well... there's the Bluray player part. :dopey:

I need either a real cheap Ps2 controller converter or a cheap PS3 controller so they can both play though. Suggestions?

That looks good to me, bar the FIFA bit. But then being a Scot it's not surprising ;) That is a mouthwatering list though!

Except "promised" to be changed to "hopefully" by September. nothing wrong with aiming high i guess.

Hmm.

GI.biz
Sony has promised PlayStation 3 owners that at least 145 titles are on the way to the US, which includes approximately 40 PSN titles and more than 105 boxed games.

The clarification follows Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai's recent statement promising 380 titles within the fiscal year ending March 2008.

According to an SCEA spokesman, Hirai was citing international figures.

The number of first-party titles announced for fiscal 2007 stands at 15, including Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, LAIR, Little Big Planet, Eye of Judgment, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Third-party titles currently scheduled for fiscal 2007 include Coded Arms: Assault, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

A PS2 controller is not going to function like a SIXAXIS in PS3 games, so they'd need a SIXAXIS. And why are you worrying about getting them a controller? You're letting them borrow your $600 gaming console.

I read on a blog that SGD said PSN was going to be $40 and BD would be $60.

Is it not online? It should be. Maybe an add-on?

EDIT: Oh lookie here, FoolKiller! GameStop updated their product page:

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=270001
Wow, they are giving away the cheapest brand available.
I guess I will buy my own.

Calling all Cars has online multiplayer.

And which blog said that 'Hawk will be $40 on PSN? I haven't heard that before, and I'm on top of gaming news like a fly on crap. Something like that would put the internet on fire.

-> I have a question, I just got the memory card adaptor two week ago. I was planning to copy my PS1 memory card onto my PS3. Now heres the problem, I have a JDM-spec PS1 m.c., but as I use this particular m.c. in the past it works tottally fine saving all my USDM (like GT1/2, etc.) games on the thing, it also worked perfectly on my lovable PS2. But for some reason, my PS3 won't read it! I tried doing the same thing on my PS2 m.c. and it worked flawlessly. Is there any solution to this? Because I like to upload my game save for my freshly downloaded Rally Cross and play like mad again. :indiff:

Technically for me it's a $400 gaming console but, it's mine and I'm letting them borrow it because lets face it... it's useless right now. I mean even more so because of FM2. It's literally collecting dust for me. I don't mind if my best friend uses it because I trust him although I don't think either of them will really be using it. Anyway, since it is mine I felt is was my place to get them a second controller, especially since my best friend got me my second controller for the 360. Lastly how would a ps2 game benefit from a sixaxis controller? It can't use the sixaxis part of the controller.

Do you still have a PS2? Copy it from the Japanese memory card to a US memory card. However, since its a save for the Japanese version of the game, I don't know if it will be compatible with the Rally Cross from PSN.

Went and got Crash Bandicoot, Jumping Flash, Wipeout & Calling all cars. The ps1 games are well worth the purchase especially as they work on the PSP but so far im not as impressed with CAC but tonight its going to get some 4 player action.

^ Yes and a PS1 too (both 1001-spec)! Most of my saves on PS1 are came from the US version. The only JDM save I have is JDM-spec GT1, the rest are USDM but the M.C. is JDM. :)

If CAC has online then I might give it a go.

This took some searching as it was actually something I grazed over while searching for headset info during my lunch break. Reading this section more carefully, as opposed to briefly scanning, I see he was guessing PSN to be 1/3 cheaper than box. Seeing what the headset is I hope the box isn't a full $60.

It doesn't matter to me now though because I just got a Jawbone headset. I figured I would just get one I was sure was good quality - and yesterday was pay day.

I couldn't get my PS1 card to read either. It just sat there with the little swirly thing running in the top corner. I am going to see if it will read PS1 saves copied onto a PS2 card.
