PS3 General Discussion

Thats really odd, have you been trying to pair anything to it recently, or maybe have been using other bluetooth equipment around it when its been on?

It could just be down to interference in the air...

Maybe its just a glitch, if you get everything to work again it should be fine but I haven't heard of this problem before.

Well, the free version only supports 640x480, but the full version supports like 3200xsomething.

This would be bigger if I could just play the games on my PS3. But as it is streaming it just means you have a different interface. I woudl like some games that only run halfway decent on my PC to play on the PS3. RCT3 has nice 3D graphics but I have to reboot my PC after I play or it bogs down.

Anyway it seems the 80GB model is being phased out as online retailers are no longer receiving them and this comes from Best Buy and Target. That means backwards compatibility will finally be killed off for now. I wonder if they have a replacement coming...

This is a real bummer, I was planning on getting a PS3 in mid-February. Hopefully I can still find an 80gig model on the shelf somewhere as that is the one I wanted.

I am sure you will be able to find an 80GB PS3 or if you can't you could still buy a 40GB version, both versions have price drops starting today in the US.

One for the UK guys....

Woolworths has now gone Blu Ray Exclusive, another kick in the teeth for the failing HDDVD format... Outselling 10 to 1! Holy...!

Woolies goes Blu-ray exclusive

The latest update in the Blu-ray versus HD DVD battle is that UK high street chain Woolworths has decided to back the Blu-ray format exclusively.

According to a statement released by the retailer, its decision came after Blu-ray movies outsold HD DVDs over the Christmas period by 10 to one.

From March, HD DVDs will be dropped from stores, although they will still be available to order from the company's Web site. All 820 stores across the country will be getting the Blu-ray chart discs, and bigger stores will also have a back-catalog section.

Woolworths also says that sales of the new hi-def movies are skyrocketing, with sales rising on average over 40 percent a month. Steven McGunigel puts the success of the Blu-ray format down to its being included in the PlayStation 3. He said, "Sales figures clearly show that the market is moving towards one format of high definition DVD. The main reason is the success of Sony's PS3 machine. Because it plays Blu-ray discs, there are over 750,000 homes in the UK that can view the new high definition format. There is nowhere near that number of HD DVD players around."

One of us. One of us. One of us.

Welcome to the fold. Glad to see that you are now a ps3ologist.

We can help

DUDE...add a few HOWEVERS to that video and I'd have to say that guy is....

Don't forget to give us your PSN ID. And feel free to add me.

Congrats, quite a nice pile of Playstation kit and it even comes with a Spanish dictionary and for dummies book! :sly: Plus a dining set with napkin rings!

Planning on getting any other games besides Motorstorm?

Well...Since the United States is being invaded by Mexico I figured that I should prepare myself. My wife is so proud of those napkin rings, they apparently go with everything she says.

I'm mostly a racing game kind of guy but I think I now need to expand my horizons. What games out there are a must and which ones are complete duds?

Don't you love finding your common ID is still available?

I'll add you when I get home.

Our China goes with everything my wife says. Odd how that works.

Well, if you like racing check out Formula 1: Championship Edition and Dirt. Get GTHD off the PS Store (FREE). All of these work with the DFP, although F1: CE lacks feedback.

Then I like Warhawk. Online only, up to 32 player matches. Battle in vehicles, planes, and on foot. A lot of people seem to love COD4. I also enjoy Resistance, but outside of the story I don't find it brings anything new to FPSs. It is fun though.

And from the PS Store Super Stardust HD is probably my favorite. I also enjoy Calling all Cars, Cash! Guns! Chaos!, and Pain.

And if you have a bluetooth headset it likely works with the PS3 too. If not you can get the Warhawk bundle that comes with one. It works well with my Razr also.

And of course PS1 classics are available on the PS store and they will also play on a PSP, if you have one.

That did work out nicely.

I'm going to love the demos. I downloaded Burnout and GTHD last night. It was a little crazy to think thats the first new version of GT that I have played in almost 4 years. Too bad I missed the Prologue demo. The downloads seemed fairly quick which made me happy. That means good things for my online gaming future.

I have not a single FPS game and can only imagine the carnage to be had the first time I try an online game. Noob for one...please!

Hummm...my wife has a pink one that might look good on me. Pink is the new black, right?!

YES...Let me teach a thing or two to my kids and how life used to be!

Warhawk is third-person. If you ever played Star Wars Battlefront it is kind of like that, only not a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

You can get some for under $20.

If you really want to teach them something I believe Q-Bert and Lemmings may still be on the PS Store. I bought both of those. Lemmings is updated, but Q-Bert is classic goodness.

UnoMOTO good to have you onboard, I've sent you a friends request (done via my PSP), so hope to see you on-line.

I would strongly recommend DiRT and Burnout as far as racing titles go, and COD4 is simply excellent (and I've never been a great FPS player in the past either). Warhawk is also stunningly good fun, particularly with a group of people you know.

Regards

Scaff

Talking about DiRT..I've had a mad obssession with it recently which shows that its replay-ability is good.

Can anyone recommend a good steering wheel for the PS3? I'm in a desperate search now since I'm flogging my old PS2 steering wheel which wasn't compatable with the PS3..

UnoMOTO - Welcome to the club, mate! 👍
I'll send you a friend's request as soon as I submit this post (via PS3). As far as games, some excellent suggestions already. I'm playing CoD4 like crazy for over 2 months now (along with many members here - it's super fun online), and Warhawk is great too, less realistic but with more diversity, such as vehicles, 'ships' and whatnot. It's online mode seems pretty solid too.
As far as racing games, get GT:HD as soon as possible (free like said above), GT5P shouldn't take long now (NA/EU version), DiRT is very good, but I can't get used to the controls, Burnout is great both in visuals and gameplay, a good buy too.

Stay away from Area 51, Timeshift, PES 2008, Turok, Juiced 2... and some others I can't remember now.

What did you have?

I have a DFP and it works well and from what I read on here the G25 works well also.

I had a Fanatec Speedster 3 which definitly isn't compatiable with the PS3 because of the lack of controller ports on a PS3.

This is the one I'm currently intrested in.

That's the one I have.

The G25 runs about $300 (I think) and has a bigger wheel, clutch pedal, and H-gate shifter. It is also a Logitech, so it is the next step up.

You could always get the DS2 controller adapter. But I suggest a DFP or G25 if for no other reason than they have official support in GT games.

I haven't really heard anyone say that COD4 would be a bad investment so far. I'll assume there is a demo available for that game?

FK has already expressed his giddiness given the opportunity so shoot me while playing Warhawk.

I just don't ever see myself getting a steering wheel. [/famous last words?]

Land Sea Air and Solid Fro blow up pretty nicely, I figured you would too. The only time I played with Scaff he was on my team.

Try one out if you can. You will never go back. I let my friend try my DFP and now he talks about getting a PS3 AND DFP for GT5.

Soo...If I want to add you guys I must send you an invite?
Apparently you are at home, the rest of us are not.

Or do you mean if they sent you an invite already?

Unfortunalty I'm not aware of any demo for COD4, that said I'm also not aware of anyone buying it and then saying they dislike it (well one - but that's my eldest daughters step-dad and he has a PS3 which has never been on-line, as he says he doesn't see the point - go figure).

Soo...If I want to add you guys I must send you an invite?
Yep, just go to the 'add friends' option on the XMB and pop the PSN ID in and send the request off, once you get the PSP synced in you can use remote play and do it from that as well.

Don't worry I blow up well too, particularly when trying to fly a Warhawk (and trying is the operative word)..............BOOM.......respawn........repeat until game is over.

I did try a cheap one a few years ago and just couldn't get the hang of it. Maybe if I had a good one I would think differently.

You will almost never find me in a dogfight. And when I am it is because I am on a server with rotating game modes. It took me forever to get my Warhawk Recruiting badge so I could rank up because it required killing four vehicles. Then I learned turrets count as vehicles.

You need proper feedback, 900 degrees, and the whole thing. And I will admit it took a few weeks to get my times back in line with my controller times, but once I was there I started improving even more.

congrats UNO, I'm with you on the wheel, I have tried many wheels on many games and have never had the urge to ditch any of my playstation controllers.

I'll be adding you when I get home tonight :)

EDIT: get warhawk

Joining the welcome committee here UnoMOTO. Fellow Coloradan as well, just a very displaced one ;)

BIG VOTE for CoD4. An amazing single player experience and even better once you get online, even with all the server problems. Its high online mode addiction factor is probably its main down point.

My second vote would be for F1:CE as it is a great game as well if you enjoy a fairly hardcore racing simulation.

Third vote goes to Uncharted. It doesn't have near the replay ability of the other two, but for a single player adventure/3rd person shooter game it is hard to find better.

PS Both CoD4 and F1 really make a nice 5/6/7.1 surround system sing. Also at times both will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Great stuff 👍
