PS3 General Discussion

I just plugged up a keyboard to my PS3, and IMO, it makes internet browsing so much easier.

You should go all out and try a mouse.

I'm thinking of getting that Madcatz controller thumbpad thing.

That is something I can test, I never really thought of using one of my mouses. Its kinda like whats the point, I have the controller there which works good enough. But using a keyboard is definately alot more convenient than choosing each letter.

My brother in-law got it and he said it sucks, so make sure you can return it or something. He's an avid PC gamer and just got a PS3.

I meant I could see what it is like using a mouse connected to the PS3, I have seen that Madcatz controller thing and I dont reall see the point in spending money on that. I like the SIXAXIS for gaming, it fits my hand pretty well and I don't need some laggy controller to aim with. Just seems like a waste of money.

I forgot to mention I was using a mouse aswell, and IMO it works good for internet browsing, but a little tricky to use on the XMB or menus.

Also, does anyone have a map of what keys on the keyboard do what, I've figured out F1 opens a menu, Enter = X, F5 Refreshes a web page, ESC = O, and ctrl+left/right changes tabs in browser.

From,
Chris.

Esc = exit or cancel - equivalent to circle
F1 = open menu - equivalent to triangle button
F4 = enter address - equivalent to start
F5 = reload page
windows key - PS button (or so I hear)
Scroll wheel click - link in new window

I know there's more...

Not the most accurate test, as they tested using Duracells and then said that rechargeables wouldn't last as long. Which basically said that the PS3 test wasn't accurate.

All I know is that when I quit playing I turn on Folding and plug my controller in. I have never had a PS3 gaming session where my battery died. All battery changes on my Wii have occured during gaming.

that kinda makes sense, I wouldn't expect a rechargeable battery to last as long as a standard battery. But turning off the controller when not in use should be considered a no brainer and not a tip. Hopefully a future update can include auto off

If Im watching a film or downloading I turn the controller off although it is a bit of a pain to do and I often forget.. I would be great as you said if it turns off automatically after a set period of time when not in a game.

As for that test I think its really flawed because you cant really compare all those controllers because they are so different..

Firstly the PS3 one recharges and the others need batteries so already the power source is not a like for like comparison.

The Sixaxis runs on bluetooth whilst the other are on radio (or whatever its called), Im sure it takes more power for bluetooth... it also has a ridiculous range (I can turn the PS3 on from outside my house!).

The Sixaxis has tilt and the X360 doesnt, but it has got rumble so its not really equal, also the Wiimote has a speaker.

AA's will always last longer than recharge but im not gonna go through the hassle of buying or charging them, if your Sony one eventually dies stick in an new after market one (which they are already making).

Basically what Im saying is that there is no winner or loser as they all offer different things! I would rather have tilt, lightness, bluetooth and a shorter bat life over fiddly batteries which are heavy and using on old form of wireless interfacing.

I think it's a very valid test regardless of the differences between the controllers (Wiimote uses bluetooth as well iirc). It's definitely something the less tech savvy people deserve to know but I agree the test could have been done better.

I think the test would have been better if they tested the 360 controller with a charge pack, especially since Microsoft makes one. They could have gotten some rechargeable batteries for the Wii too.

My buddy who I trade games gave me Drake's Fortune and told me to look past the stupidity of the story (we are both in the archaeology programme) and give the game another go, so I'm going to attempt to try it once again.

Also I reserved Devil May Cry 4 today and got a cool art book with it. I hope this game is awesome since I liked the demo.

I think you will like it, it goes more from treasure hunting to survival and trying to figure out whats going on while the treasure almost becomes a back round element, fairly good replayability as well

It's not bad, I still get irked by the story but the game play is still good and the graphics are amazing. It reminds me of Tomb Raider in away but more organized in the story.

It's nice to hear you're giving it a try, Joey D. I can appreciate it if your principles make a game distasteful. I haven't played it myself (just the demo), but even if you don't buy it for yourself, it's probably a good experience to see it first-hand.

Maybe you can pretend the hero is a legitimate archeologist and he's trying to stop these other 'pot hunters'? :)

Anyone else who's running Folding@Home...is yours working on a huge protein? That will take a day and 40 minutes to finish?

Mine just finished one that took 16 hours, I'm not sure which one it's working on now though.

Edit, I just checked, and mine is on a huge WU that will take 1 Day, 14 Hours and 30 mins.

Anyway, I went to folding for my Clan and now I'm in 2nd-3rd, behind a guy who has two PS3's & 3 desktops.

Is that meant to be the loch ness monster?

Thats pretty sweet.... Sony you rule!

Robin

Judging by the music, I think it is from "The water horse: Legend of the deep" movie (which even though they don't say it is, I think it is really Nessie)

I could imagine all advertising in Toyko eventually being holographic, so it would be floating all around you especially out in the bay...

Reminds me of Back to the Future II & Jaws 22 1/2

Anyway, my PS3 finally finished that mega WU, haven't check on it lately though.

Wow, that was awesome. How many people do you think called the cops reporting that Godzilla had returned?

On X-Play tonight they reported that Sony is going to release the Silver version of the PS3 with a 40GB HDD and Silver SIXAXIS, at this point though, it is only going to be released in Japan as far as reports say.

Also, they are going to release The "PS3: The Best" Collection of games (Japan only), with hopefully something coming out in NA/EU/etc. later.

Games include:
Folklore,
Resistance,
Ninja Gaiden Sigma,
Mobile Suit Gundam,
and Ridge Racer 7

For 3,619 yen (US$34) (Finally in my price range! :P)

Okay guys. I need your help!

I'm wanting a decent steering wheel which works for PS3.
As a budget I would probably want it under £60 but I'm willing to stretch my budget if need be.
It needs to have a decent lap attachment or comes with a lap attachment as I don't play my PS3 with a table anywhere near by. (Down fall of DFP having a rubbish lap attachment according to reviews)
It needs to have some sort of gear shifter (paddles or shifter don't mind which one).

Basically thats about it...
