PS3 General Discussion

What is up with you and your trolling and misinformation/exaggerations lately?

Would your head explode if I told you there are many times that many exlusive games on the PS3? Geez.

Please don't accuse me of trolling because i don't gobble up everything Sony puts out.

I know there are about 175 PS3-exclusive titles, but only a handful are really any good.

Give me a break, lol, you ARE trolling. You came in a PS3 thread and started trolling, looking to cause fuss.

Pathetic.

PS3:

Gran Turismo
Ratchet and Clank
Uncharted
Killzone
Resistance
Little Big Planet
Metal Gear Solid 4
Sing Star
God of War
Warhawk
SOCOM
Flow
Flower
Heavy Rain
Wipeout
Motorstorm

That's just off the top of my head.

Xbox 360:

Gears of War
Halo

Hmmm...

Please don't accuse me of trolling because i don't gobble up everything Sony puts out.

I'm not. I'm stating the fact that you have made countless posts for over a year now with lots of negative statements about the PS3 disguised as facts that were completely false... a characteristic often attributed to internet trolls.

I'd definietely add:
  • Fable 2
  • Mass Effect
  • Forza 2
  • PGR4 (well there are a lot of fans, so that must mean something)
  • Left 4 Dead
  • Ninja Gaiden II
  • Ace Combat 6
  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • and I'm sure others that I am personally not aware of.

And there are a bunch I'd also add to the PS3 list, and there are many multi-platform games that are great.

There are great games for both systems, and anyone who says there are only a handful of games that are really any good while at the same time don't feel the same way about the games for a different system I would consider to be either a liar, a troll, a fanboy, or extremely narrow minded or misguided... and possibly any combination or all of the above... but that's just my opinion.

I forgot about Mass Effect, I'd add that.

Left 4 Dead is not an exclusive, it's for PC as well. As for the others, I wouldn't say they were good games. At least, not interesting what so ever to me personally.

I really want to defend you because you aren't one to constantly say things, but that comment was typical of a Joystiq.com comment.

Perhaps sarcasm tags were in order?

Are we counting games with PC versions as exclusives? If not then most of these lists are eliminated.

Or are we talking console exclusives? In which case both systems have a huge list of quality exclusives. The Wii has an even larger list of exclusives, but few of them are what I would call quality.

Ooops, Mass Effect is on PC as well. That's gone too.

God damnit, Gears of War too.

So... the 360 only has one good exclusive game. Halo 3.

I don't want to get into a debate about what constitutes an exclusive, as there can be several opposing view points, with valid arguments to be made for each.

For instance, I personally would call Ferrari Challenge a "PS3 Exclusive", as it looks very different on a Wii and PS2 (not to mention the DS and PSP) than on a PS3... not to mention the lack of a decent wheel for the Wii and other factors.

However, on the subject of the PS3, 360 and PC. I suspect one reason many games for the 360 are available on the PC is that it is my understanding that because the 360 is based on a tried and true PC platform technology - albeit a dated one, it makes it very easy to develop a game for both.

This then made me wonder... if the 360 is much more like a typical PC, why is it that unlike the PS3, it has no web browser and can't or won’t run Folding@Home???

I'd ask in the 360 forums... but I’m not confident I’d get any constructive responses.

I am serious though, for those that may know the back story, as I'm sure it has come up over the years in 360 forums and such... what possible reason or restriction has kept these two features from being available on a 360?

The 360 focused on games first and foremost, not being some media center or amazing hardware device.

The PS3, and I believe this is the biggest detriment to its sales, is a hardware focused media center device with its main intent on games. But of course that focus causes the price to remain high and sales are being affected as the 360 was able to quickly hit that sweet point in console pricing of under $200, which I believe Joystiq.com said is when the majority of console sales happen historically.

For me the PS3 was worth every penny and most of what the 360 has to offer has little appeal to me.

This new tech focus though will allow the PS4 to be much more competitive as the tech is now proven and in the cost-effective range. An increased cell processor, a now proven BD drive, and that basically leaves graphics as the only main price piece. It will be able to hit the same price point as the next XBox while maintaining its superior tech.

Give me a break, lol, you ARE trolling. You came in a PS3 thread and started trolling, looking to cause fuss.

Pathetic.

There's a difference between trolling and stating my opinion even if it just happens to be different.

A difference like...calling someone pathetic. Hmm.

Why would i be trolling if i've owned a PS3 for just over a year, bought an HDTV specifically for my PS3, and owned several games? Game including the $200 Rock Band 2, for which i've spent an additional $60+ to buy DLC.

Not to mention the fact that SolidFro is on my PSN friends list. I can share my opinion over a system, but what i wouldn't do is call him or anyone else names for disagreeing with me.

PS3:

Gran Turismo
Ratchet and Clank
Uncharted
Killzone
Resistance
Little Big Planet
Metal Gear Solid 4
Sing Star
God of War
Warhawk
SOCOM
Flow
Flower
Heavy Rain
Wipeout
Motorstorm

That's just off the top of my head.

Xbox 360:

Gears of War
Halo

Hmmm...

Out of that list i still only see a handful i consider meaningful. Just from there i can say...SOCOM is still using a PS2 engine (at least it looks like it is), and Wipeout HD is just the old Wipeout game levels in HD. But it was $20 after all.

Why did you bring up the 360? I didn't even mention it.

I'm not. I'm stating the fact that you have made countless posts for over a year now with lots of negative statements about the PS3 disguised as facts that were completely false... a characteristic often attributed to internet trolls.

I disguised them as facts? I'm just talking from my own experiences.

I'm 19 and i spent $400 of my own money on this thing, and i was raised to be a cheap bastard. It's only natural that i want a lot out of my gaming experience. I don't think enough has been done for PS3 owners yet by game developers. Sure some of that is their fault and because of issues in getting accustomed to new technology, but i feel like Sony should be offering more incentive to third-party companies instead of just helping out their platformers. Which as i have said, don't really thrill me.

Digital-Nitrate
There are great games for both systems, and anyone who says there are only a handful of games that are really any good while at the same time don't feel the same way about the games for a different system I would consider to be either a liar, a troll, a fanboy, or extremely narrow minded or misguided... and possibly any combination or all of the above... but that's just my opinion.

And again i'm not talking about other systems, i don't own them so i don't care for them nor can i really speak for them.

I forgot about Mass Effect, I'd add that.

Left 4 Dead is not an exclusive, it's for PC as well. As for the others, I wouldn't say they were good games. At least, not interesting what so ever to me personally.

Gotcha, just because you are interested in them makes them bad games.

It's these kinds of posts that make PS3 fans look bad.

Have you played SOCOM: Confrontation or Wipeout HD? Still using PS2 level engines? Nope.

Not too bad for two PSN games, right?

If my list didn't make your pants a bit tight, then nothing from Sony or any other publisher ever will.

Not to mention the fact that SolidFro is on my PSN friends list. I can share my opinion over a system, but what i wouldn't do is call him or anyone else names for disagreeing with me.

And I am glad to be on your friends list.

It's these kinds of posts that make some PS3 fans look bad.

fixed :)

And as you often remind those who criticize 360 fans, it goes both ways, as I'm sure you have seen plenty of posts from some 360 fans saying there are no good games for the PS3, right?

BTW: As I am fond of data and statistics, I was curious to see what data Metacritic has on what games reviewers thought were the better exclusive games for each system since the PS3 came out... as some folks forget the 360 came out a year earlier... although I think even a diehard 360 fan would have to agree that outside of Gears of War and PGR3, the games that came out during the first year for the 360 were not exactly great games and certainly not trailblazers or revolutionary... not saying they were bad mind you... but just not great, especially compared to those that followed.

So for those that don't know, Metacritic compiles the scores of a very wide selection of well known published reviewers, converts their scores to a 100 point scale, and then takes the average for each game, movie, etc.

I figured an average score of 80 or more seemed like a reasonable criteria as far as what games have on average received the best scores from critics, and seeing as in general there is a significant difference between downloadable arcade & PSN games, I only included ones that were released on disc, thus sold through standard retail stores, and so over the last two years here are the results:

360 = 12 Exclusive Games w/ average scores of 80 or more
(and as it turns out, my list of top 360 games was pretty close to this) đź‘Ť
  1. Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation
  2. Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
  3. Crackdown
  4. Fable II
  5. Forza Motorsport 2
  6. Gears of War 2
  7. Halo 3
  8. Left 4 Dead
  9. Ninja Gaiden II
  10. Project Gotham Racing 4
  11. Tales of Vesperia
  12. Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise
Yes, it's true, you could say more than half of these are not exclusive to the 360, seeing as they are available in practically identical form on a PC... but some people don't like gaming on a PC, so I kept them in.

PS3 = 18 Exclusive Games w/ average scores of 80 or more
  1. Buzz! Quiz TV
  2. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
  3. Heavenly Sword
  4. Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds
  5. LittleBigPlanet
  6. Metal Gear Online
  7. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  8. MLB 08: The Show
  9. MotorStorm
  10. MotorStorm: Pacific Rift
  11. Ninja Gaiden Sigma
  12. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
  13. Resistance 2
  14. Resistance: Fall of Man
  15. SingStar
  16. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
  17. Valkyria Chronicles
  18. Warhawk

Now some could argue that Ninja Gaiden Sigma shouldn't be on the list, as it is based largely on the original 360 game, but it also has a lot of exclusive features and content, and at least technically speaking it is considered an "exclusive".

Also, a couple of the exclusive PSN games that scored over 80 are large enough games that one could also argue they should be on that list, but it seemed more reasonable to only include games that were sold on disc.

And for those that don't care for games that are on the 360, then they are in even better luck, as Metacritic lists nearly 100 games for the PS3 that scored an average of 80 or more.

So again, anyone who claims there are no good games for the PS3, or just a handful... either they have massive hands, extremely picky, feel the same way about all systems, or is just not telling the truth...

That being said, as I feel it deserves being repeated, there are many great games for both systems. đź‘Ť

rofl, some other dude just got done doing the exact same thing he did, and you didn't jump on him.

Show your colors :sly:

And who might that be?

Honestly if I am a fanboy of any thing it's PC gaming so that would be where my colours are shown.

===

Oh and D-N the reason I said "makes PS3 fans look bad" is that people like that make all PS3 fans seem like ignorant fanboys when it just isn't true. And you missed a couple of games, PGR3 and the original Gears along with the Last Remnant which is due on the PS3 at some point in time. I guess it's gotten good reviews but meh on my part.

I will admit, I still don't care for the PS3 game selection very much but it seems like they are selling so I wouldn't flat out call them bad games. I thought I would like LBP but I never was really able to get into it. Really I think the best "game" thing on the PS3 right now is Home and I really hope Sony works hard to make it into something. Oh and there is the non-gaming aspect of it too.

I think the 360 is way to unfairly criticised on this site which is why it always annoys me. I mean I know it's based around a Playstation video game but still it gets old with people just spouting crap.

Giancarlo just got saying there were only 4 good games on PS3, which clearly is his opinion, and not truth.

When Solid Fro did it, you say just because HE didn't like it doesn't mean it's not good, and then say he makes PS3 fans look bad.

Funny.

I have Giancarlo on my ignore list so I didn't know what he said. I see nothing funny about that. If that is what he said, then yes, I agree that is his opinion and he shouldn't be stating it as fact, but since I don't know what transpired I can't make an accurate judgement.

Nice attempt at starting a console war though đź‘Ť!

When did i say that my post was an absolute truth?

Seriously; is this GTPlanet.net, or Turnitin.com?

So a couple of days ago, i've put a 320 gig HDD in my PS3 and now im very happy:D
Depending on how Christmas goes I will be doing that shortly. If I get games to keep me enteretained then my usual gaming budget will go toward this. I'm also hoping someone snags me the external drive I want that will be lareg enough to back up my current drive, and then use it as a back up for my new drive.

Well i seen some External drives of 1TB under 100 Euros đź‘Ť

I didn't miss them. I suspect you may have skipped over my post and only looked at the lists. I not only mentioned them, but also explained why they were not on the list.

I will admit, I still don't care for the PS3 game selection very much but it seems like they are selling so I wouldn't flat out call them bad games.
You can call them bad if you like, but then you must also agree that you are in the vast minority, and it says a great deal more about you then it does about the games available on the PS3... with 18 exclusive games, nearly that many PSN games, and over 50 multi-platform games for the PS3 that have universally been given average ratings above 80 (4-5 stars), you must admit... it is very hard to imagine how someone could say with a straight face that there are very few, or no good games at all for the PS3... but if true, as I said before, that likely says sooo much more about that individual person then it ever does regarding the actual quality of the games.

I thought I would like LBP but I never was really able to get into it.
And that's fine. It's a personal choice. There are some people in the world that don't like the taste of ice cream. There some people in the world who honestly think The Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, and Lawrence of Arabia, are horrible movies... yet by a vast majority, these films are considered some of, if not the best films ever made... which is also what a great deal of people think about LBP, and has the reviews and awards to prove it.

Once again, it really only exposes that person's own limits and perhaps bias when their personal subjective opinions are often so different from the vast majority. As a rule, I generally avoid listening to and reading reviews and opinions from people like that, as they often will mislead me... but that's a choice we all must make on our own.

I think the 360 is way to unfairly criticised on this site which is why it always annoys me. I mean I know it's based around a Playstation video game but still it gets old with people just spouting crap.
Joey... it's not just here, in fact, if you really took the time to compare, you'll find far more criticisms about the 360 on tech sites, HT sites, AV Gearhead sites, main steram media, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, trade publications, even hardcore 360 fan sites. It’s everywhere, and compared to many of those places, here at GTP it's rarely brought up.

Also, if what you claim is unfair criticism has been proven to be true, and even MS has admitted over time that much of it has been true, how is that unfair? If you are then wondering why all these sites, publications, and media are still talking about these issues, it's because there are still a great deal of people who clearly do not know about these issues, most of which are still a problem with the 360.

Look, if it's made up or untrue, it has no place here or anywhere else, but there are REAL issues with the 360 that do not exist with the PS3, and ignoring them, glossing over them, or attacking someone for talking about them is just as bad as someone who makes stuff up.

There are issues with the PS3 as well, and I myself have brought them up and expressed my disappointment. Fortunately most had to do with missing features in the system and compatibility with specific codecs, which over the first year were fortunately added.

You don't have to be a fan of the PS3 to easily recognize the difference between both systems, including hardware, features, content, and reliability. You only have to be willing to look at them without any personal bias.

There are some very distinct differences, many of which have kept me from buying a 360... and I own a lot of MS stock and no Sony stock, so if anything I have a vested interest in MS... just not their current console - also, for the record, in terms of hardware and features, I've always felt the original X-box was much better than the PS2.

Unfortunately, many times the better product is not the one that sells the best.

Look I don't want to start a huge console debate, like I said I agree both systems have their strengths and weaknesses, let's just leave it at that shall we?

Saying the 360 is rubbish is untrue, saying the 360 has only one good game is untrue, saying that all 360's are going to fail is untrue. This site is full of that crap and there are some rather annoying fanboys here that will remain anonymous. Go into the GT section, you'll see all sorts of fanboy banter that always makes me shake my head. If it's not about the PS3 it's about how the GT series can do no wrong.
I would most certainly agree that anyone making comments such as those are both incorrect and (on GTP) flirting with the AUP.

The staff here will actively step in and remove/correct/warn in regard to any incorrect statments and/or attempts to start flame wars.

I can certainly recall dealing with numerous posts/threads of this nature in regard to both the PS3 and 360.

I do however take great issue with you claim that GTP is "full of that crap", that is simply not true at all, and in comparison to the vast majority of the web, discussions of this nature remain balanced and fair. However keep in mind that if someone is of the opinion that all games on the PS3/Wii/360 are crap then that is not an AUP issue at all, claiming it as fact would however be a different issue.

I agree there are 360 fanboys as well, I never said there wasn't. It's just on my daily trips around the internet I more often then not find people belittling the 360 and praising the PS3 despite both systems having their strengths and weaknesses.
I suggest taking a look at Gamesradar or Computer & Video Games forums then, more than enough fanboys of all flavours on those two sites alone.

What I can't understand is why people can't see both the consoles strengths and weaknesses.
I quite agree, but a fine line can exist between defending a product you like and being seen as a fanboy.

Personally I would never class you as a fanboy, but I can clearly remember a good number of your posts claiming that the 360 RRoD issue was a issue with how people looked after the machine rather than an inherant design flaw. At the time (given the volume of evidence avaliable) and with hindsight, that stance could have been seen as a characteristic of a fanboy.

As with many subjects, opinion is fine, everyone is entitled to one and anyone can (with respect) disagree/agree with it as they wish. Its when option is presented as fact that people get into trouble.

Scaff

I'm sorry you have an issue with it, in my opinion there is quite a bit of untrue statements concerning the 360 and it's games on this site. Yes they may be opinions, in fact I would almost certainly say they are but sometime it is difficult to separate fact from opinion. However, one only needs to look back a few posts to see that the claim the 360 only has one good game is false as D-N proved a few posts back as well. That is the sort of stuff I am talking about.

It's not just on consoles either, it's on cars, politics, religion, etc.

Ah, but you forget that I said the design flaw is the reason you need to take extra care of your system. I've taken care of my system and it's done fine with only my stupidity breaking it. My PS3 on the other hand died without explanation. Although this does not make me go around saying all PS3's are unreliable. I guess I just got a bad one.

Joey, it's probably not a great idea to cite that old RRoD 360 thread, as you would then also have to admit there were several people who posted in it saying they took extremely good care and caution with their 360's and they still died, as well as examples from other sources, not to mention the fact that it took a while before you did actually accept that there were design flaws, and you still expressed the opinion that MS should not be held responsible.

It's just a suggestion, but I would let sleeping dogs lie. I'm all for letting the past be the past, and speaking frankly, I have found you to be much more open minded nowadays then a year ago in terms of the whole PS3 vs 360 debates. Because of that, I pay a lot more attention to your posts and the opinions you share with us now than I ever did before.

So please, let's not bring up old ghosts. đź‘Ť
