PS3 General Discussion

So, in a completely unrelated issue......

Do I buy a 120Gig PS3 slim, or wait until the 250Gig one is released, or buy an old fat one and get a HDD?

I just want to get whatever is the most sensible/cheap/reliable option, as I'm getting old waiting for one, and taking risks is what I used to do.

I would also like it to be a new one, so I get a warranty with it.

Surely, there is no better forum to ask.

Your thoughts please.

I would like to own a GT5-able console in the next 2 weex.

:irked:👍

I'm not sure what a weex is (never mind that their are 2 of them), but I imagine it's an amount of time that I'm unaware of. :D

Pressing on.

My 80Gb still has over 20Gb left on the drive and there is plenty I would have no problem deleting to free up more space, should that be an issue at some point, so I see no reason to wait for a 250. Unless you're planning on putting movies on the HD. Then it might not be a bad idea. But with how easy it is to upgrade drives and how drive prices are dropping, I'm not sure that's much of an issue, either.

The fat vs. thin is up to you. My fat has been fine for the last year and a half, but others have obviously had issues. Only time will tell how the thin fares in comparison.

As it looks like the 250 model will likely be the same specs except hard drive space, just get a 120 and go buy a 500GB drive or something if you need more space.

Edit:
It looks like very few people are expecting much out of the PS2 BC leak. Not that I do either, but I'm still somewhat surprised when the Gamefaqs poll of the day dedicated to the topic has "Not the discs, you'll have to re-buy PS2 games over PSN" being the leading selection with more votes than any of the other categories combined for the question "Do you think Sony will bring back PS2 backwards compatibility on newer models of the PlayStation 3?"

Buy the 120GB model, and for less money than the upgrade to a 250GB you can buy a larger HDD.

But as TB pointed out, not everyone needs a larger HDD. I hjave tones of DLC titles and add-ons. Rock Band alone is approaching the 10GB mark, and will likely pass it after I export Lego Rock Band into the full game.

So, get the 120GB model and then see what your gaming habits are as far as downloadable titles are concerned.

Sounds good to me. 👍

I'll let you know what I think next week then hopefully.

Couldn't have waited any longer, TGS is about to announce my next waiting game milestone, and from there on in, it's time to re-establish myself in the OLR community.

Thanx for all your help.

I knew this was the place to ask.

Next it'll be "Where can I find a good, cheap full HD TV?" :dopey:

After I've eaten beans for a month, anyway.

Oh and FK, BUY GOD OF WAR for Kratos's sake. Both games are a truly memorable experience, and you are missing out.

I took my 80 gig out of mine and put in a 160, and between all of the BR rips on the HDD, I have about 30gb left, going to upgrade to a 500gb in a bit.

So yes, go for the 120 and cram a 500 in it, if you want.

Budget £10 an inch.

Mine was £174 delivered for a 22" (so bargain) from Dixons amazingly. Model code is LG M227WD.

I've played them, just never owned them. I now have Chains of Olympus on my PSP after getting it for $5 off Amazon.

In what respect? like the graphics are so much better? There is less popup?
I used to love the first two driver games.
I'd always try to adhere to the rules of the road when there wasn't a time limit.
Kind of difficult when you don't know what the american road laws are, other then "drive on the right", but you know, I'd stop for red lights and such.

Since we talk about HDD - I have a question.
Lets say I buy 500GB disc for my 60GB PS3, what shall I do to don't loose the data - I mean what is the algorithm ?
Copy saves to flash memory and than copy it back onto new HDD - is that all ? any other activity is necessary ?
How about FW ? Is it independent from HDD ?
One last thing - If I change HDD do I loose "downloading slots" of all the games I had bought so far ?

Depends on what you plan on doing with the PS3. I've got the 40gig model and still have plenty of space even with all the game save data, a dozen downloaded full games and demos and a load of pictures off my camera. Unless you plan on using it to download and store loads of films or video clips on it i'd just get the smallest one. You can always get an external HDD or replace the internal one at a later date.

As for fatty Vs. thinny it comes down to looks for me. The fatty looks like a quality piece of equipment, the thinny looks like a £30 Matsui Freeview box. If that doesn't bother you, just get a new one.

The second Driver was notorious for crippling slowdown when it came out, to the point where it was a game-ruining problem. I'm talking single-digit fps at times.
On the PS3? Locked at 60, aside from the occasional glitch. It plays completely differently now.

If you have a large enough external drive you can do a complete backup that will compress and copy your entire hard drive to your external drive. Then when you put in the new drive you can restore it and it is as if nothing ever changed, expect your free space will be much larger. You can find the functions for this under the Settings menu and the online manual has detailed instructions.

Yes.

No, assuming you mean your five allowed downloads of PSN stuff, those are five separate systems, not five individual downloads. The system has its own identifier that is not on the HDD.

Does this mean PSN re-downloads are unlimited on any 1 system?

As I understand it, yes. When I was juggling HDD space before my upgrade there was a lot of redownloading going on and I have yet to hit my limit yet.

I've tried to do both the new PS3 update and the Playstation Home update and both have failed. The system update just failed, and the PS Home download data became corrupted. Anyone able to explain this?

I've noticed that one of my PS3 saves is copy protected. If I was to do a bigger hard drive in the future (I'm currently looking at a 320), would I be able to keep it?
