PS3 General Discussion

"People don't want backwards compatibility. And when we find out that they actually do, we will instead sell you the games you want to play again instead!"

Call me cynical, but this seems to me to be little more than a combination of the "New Play! Control" and "GBA on DSi VC" schemes that Nintendo has already cooked up.

Never played God Of war 2 got h1/3rd through GoW1. Not everyone has payed it and some love it. A good group candidates for purchase. Also for $20 each on one disc with 720p60 and trophies it sounds like a great idea for those who love it or always wanted to play it.

Its one game and Sony already said they have no other plans to do this to other games. Doing it for one game to lead up to the release of the next intalment doesn't make them the next Nintendo.

But fans of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus already want the same treatment.

Ps2 has collection games already, So does PS1. Why the hate now?

Got a quick question. Someone knows if the PSN Network cards are already released in PAL regions. The site says september. Someone?

I probably more than anyone else here will agree with you. I won't go on to repeat any of the short rants I've, well, ranted just for the sake of not sounding redundant. However, between Sony filing a patent to utilize the Cell layout for "hard" emulation and the infamous "If you want to play PS2 games, buy a PS2" when asked about the lack of backward compatibility statement something just smells of being awry.

Shopto.net, a online shop here in the UK, have a release date of 18th September for PSN cards here, I don't know whether this is right or not, or whether they will release in the rest of the EU at the same time. Sorry I can't help more than this, you would have thought Sony could at least get an announcement right, I guess not.:ouch:

Cynical. :sly:

If this weren't a response to a survey where fans said they wanted a Blu-Ray version of the first two games I would see where you are coming from. I also didn't see you complaining when Capcom did this same thing with Super Street Fighter 2 Alpha, Turbo, Hyper, Super HD Remix and Marvel vs Capcom 2 HD. HD upgrades are far different from VC emulators with minor control changes.

Add in that no one accuses Sony of foul play when PSOne games are ported for PS3/PSP use, and it seems like the only problem people really have here is that they are getting this instead of backward compatibility. But then that still leaves Marvel vs Capcom 2 in a position to be equally criticized.

Personally, I have a hardware emulation backward compatible PS3 and I fully intend to buy this set over the regular PS2 versions.

They clearly attempted to make it more than VC style port.

I haven't played either game and would grab this set immediately. My biggest fear/hope is that Sony is opening a door they may have wished they kept shut. If I focus on my PS2 games I am sure I can find a bunch that I would love to see get a graphical upgrade with trophies added.

Incredibly apple to oranges.
I see what you are saying, but I disagree. How is a God of War collection for the PS3 different from this?

Now you've contradicted your self? If Its unlike the past collections how is this Nintendo like? I could be wrong because you are a smart guy and usually know what you are talking about. Again its just one game leading to the release of the next installment, not a re release of the entire PS2 legacy DVD collection.

Finally, someone figured out a proper use for the SixAxis motion controls.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Gets Sixaxis Jiggle Support

The PlayStation 3's motion sensing Sixaxis controller features don't get much attention these days, but Tecmo is about to change that, as Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 reportedly uses the technology for boob jiggling. Ever the innovator!

According to reports from IGN and The Sixth Axis, Tecmo will give PS3 owners full control over the overflowing cups of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2's ladies. Whether that jiggling applies to all characters equipped with massive breasts—Ayane, Rachel and Momiji—remains to be seen, but is probably a safe bet.

We've checked in with Tecmo PR to verify that potentially game changing information for ourselves and were told by reps that, yes, that jiggle feature is true.

Hats off to you, Team Ninja. It would seem that the departure of Tomonobu Itagaki hasn't made you miss a step.

I just got this. Anybody esle? Are you gonna sign up and try it?
They announced ot on the Blog earlier this week, but I don't see the benefit in movie to California for what is likely to be less money than I make now with no medical benefits.

Plus, I am not that good of a gamer. I have only made one leaderboard in my life and that was the GTI on Daytona Oval on Prologue. Hardly a TV show worthy achievement.

Oh, and I completely detest reality TV in all forms.

Well, I thought it was for the youngsters and not old farts like us. :P

Oh, and yeah, pretty much what you said...

Actually, when Harrison came out and said the PS3 will never ever be BC ever again, that was the first bit of hypocrisy targeted.

  1. The only decent version of MVC2 ever released on home consoles was on the Dreamcast, as the PS2 and Xbox version was a completely awful port; so in essence MVC2 was the first time PS360 owners (probably) are able to play a competent port of the overrated classic.
  2. I didn't even know Sony had completely removed BC from the entire lineup until well after SSF2THDR came out, so it wasn't an issue then.
I see what you are saying, but I disagree. How is a God of War collection for the PS3 different from this?

Two reasons:
  1. That came out for a system that actually was already capable of playing the previous 6 or 7 Namco Museum games that had already been sold on the Playstation (this of course also applies to the PS3 rereleases of all these games).
  2. Namco isn't a first party development house, so it really has nothing to do with Sony at all (that particular game came out on all 3 systems); and they also release one of those collections every two years or so. You might remember that I chewed Sega out for doing essentially the same thing with Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection back in March.

Harrison no longer works for Sony, what he said in the past left along with him. People say lot of things to combat criticism. Sony with Vibration and Microsoft with multimeida consoles.

^ Plus you can buy Guitar Hero 5 as the first game with that deal; throwing in the free Van Halen, that's 3 games for about $90. Wow!

Except you can still play PSOne games on all PS3s. Those are blatant attempts to get you to rebuy older games just so you can play them on the PSP. A tactic, I should add, that has worked on me. The PSOne games are basically Virtual Console for the PSP, and to a degree PS3, although not necessary for the PS3.

I get what you are saying, but this GoW pack was requested in a survey after people saw the Street Fighter 2 HD update. People are now requesting similar things to be done on many titles. These are adding more to it than just reselling you the exact same game adapted to a new controller, which is all VC is.

Personally, having played the previous games (but not owned them) and having the ability to buy the PS2 versions to play on my PS3, I still prefer this new set. Another difference from this and VC is that VC titles, in many cases cost you way more than it would to just buy the games in any other format (see Genesis VC prices versus a Genesis collection), while these are actually giving you a visual upgrade and selling for close to the same price as buying them new.

At the end of the day it is a simple way for them to make more money for minimal effort, but it was demanded first. You can't fault them for making easy cash with something demanded by their consumer base.

You might remember that I chewed Sega out for doing essentially the same thing with Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection back in March.
That was you too?

<looks>

Well, look at that. At least you are consistent.

I prefer to disagree with someone who sticks by their opinions in all cases than someone thats jumps all over the place.

Not exactly, the deal is only good on in stock items. GH5 is backordered.

I still may get CoD4 and NCAA Football 10
