PS3 General Discussion

Right I need abit of help please. Got a Sony bluetooth wireless headset and I'm having trouble setting it up. Followed the instructions in the manual book, but for some it isn't charging up.

That's weird. I know to connect it to the PS3 you go to the section in the menu and go through the steps. At one point you have to sinc the system and the headset.

Needs to be off to charge; and ps3 on. Re-check blue tooth set up in settings; I found sometimes if I had bluetooth plugged in when starting ps3 it would switch audio to bluetooth only and bypass my 5.1 Surround sound system. Mine has light that blinks when charging; solid light when charged.

Someone please tell me what the big danger is of the news that ps3/GT5 is hacked? :dunce:

Following on the Bluetooth headsets, can I just get any old headset (e.g. for a phone) and connect it to the PS3? My family is quite possibly getting one soon and I would like a way to communicate to other people

Should be able to. I did it once.

The first PS Access event will take place in London from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th of February, before travelling up to Glasgow on Friday 18th to Sunday 20th February.* Both these events will kick off on the Friday evening with an 18+ session, with four more session planned over the course of the weekend.

Sweet Christmas! *Runs to Wal-Mart to buy a PSN card*

A question for anyone reading who knows, can I connect my PS3 to my computer directly to move files from my PS3 to my PC? I think I tried it before but never had much joy.

Drat, I'd heard you could join them with an ethernet cable. Stupid lying shop workers.

Oh well, thanks anyway.
The PS3 uses a different file system. The PS3 can see network shared PCs and copy files from them that way.

Suddenly, my Triple is playing PS2 games like crap. Load times are pretty poor, substantially worse than on my PS2 (whereas before they were almost always better).

It wasn't like this a couple of weeks ago, and now it is. I'm guessing the lens is dirty or something (because similar things happened with my actual PS2 when its laser got dirty), and I was wondering if there was any known way to clean it.

Guys I need Help My Black ops Disk isn't working Every time I insert the Disk the XMB doesn't load the CD Icon so Does that means its ruined Forever or what.

Oh and Yes I think it is scratched (Because of constantley removing it from the annoying Disk case thing :grumpy:)

Sounds like the disc is scratched or has something going on that makes it unreadable. Have you tried cleaning it off?

If that is what is happening that will be the first time I have heard of that happening by accident.

Although, check the inner lip for any small cracks. If it has cracked along the inner edge that can cause it to be unreadable. I have heard of that, although in that case it was a bad batch of discs.

Looks like you are on to something because it is indeed scratched around in the inner edge or circle.I do still think it's because it is really difficult getting the CD out of the cover so I have to apply force to pull the Disk out .:grumpy:

Woohoo, I repaired my PS3 again, after it YLOD'd for the second time. Its transferring data to my Slim now.

I did learn a lesson. Be sure you get the ribbon wire from the Blu-Ray drive hooked up properly. My drive doesn't work now, and I am mostly sure it is because I was unsure of the connection due to the crazy way you have to hold the drive suspended while reconnecting it. I wasn't 100% but it was getting late and I knew I was moving everything to a new system, and no disc was in the drive, so I shrugged it off and kept going.

So, it will play a temporary role in the bedroom as a Netflix device. And I have a lot of my DVDs converted to DivX for ease of use that I will load on the HDD. The best thing is that if it goes out again I know there won't be anything in the drive to worry about.

Yeah make sure the connection snaps together.
It's tricky when you have a left hand with reduced dexterity. I was trying to hold the drive balanced with my chin while using both hands, but that didn't work so well.

But, like I said, no big loss. And if it YLOD's on me again I can fix it then.

Anyone ever had their PS3 just shut down when you were playing and then it wouldn't wake up? Do you think that the HD is still good? :banghead:
Flashing red light?

When you start it does it turn green like normal, flash yellow for a second, then flash red and beep?

Wow, so it looks like something more happened to my 60GB than just the usual YLOD. It will not load anything that requires a video switch, such as games or Netflix type apps. Browser, PSN Store, etc work, but anything where it flicks to a black screen (my TV even occasionally says "No signal for a second) and then starts loading the game freezes at the black screen.

I tried a file system restore and database rebuild, even wiped even the settings clear. When doing this it told me my HDD was corrupted and would be corrected by the file system restore. Still didn't work. Switched HDDs with the 120Gb from my new slim (which now has my 320GB I was using in the 60GB) and got the same thing. Hardware is totally caput now.

Any ideas?

This could be an HDMI thing with the video switching and whatnot that won't be an issue on an SD signal. So, I will test it again that way, but with the HDD is corrupt message coming up on even new drives I am not holding on to any hope. I have already accepted the hardware is done for. Once I try all ideas and advice to no success I will pull the HDD and BD drive (might want the diodes) and then trash it. Maybe make some innards art work out of it.

The ultimate bonus in all this is that my wife has found a new bit of respect for my geek side. She didn't know that I was comfortable enough to take electronics apart to their base parts and mess with them the way that I do. When I switched HDDs she commented that she might get dinner in an hour, because she'd have to wait for me to finish and I said, "I just need to tighten these two screws and I'm done." She also understands why I never admit to being willing to do this. I already get annoyed with fixing computers from a software angle. I won't spend hours doing hardware for people that have no clue what they are buying.

Well, I didn't mean make the same exact post in the PS3 General Discussion thread

Seriously, though, any more information? How wouldn't it run? Would it show up in the XMB? Stuff like that.

Yea sorry it's 4:30am here and i'm really tired. Basically it doesn't show the disk in the XMB. PS3 games, DVDs and music CDs all show up but PS1 disk doesn't.
