PS3 General Discussion

I wonder if this is another old ps3/new ps3 thing. I'm currently on line right now and so are 4 of my friends who I know have the newer slim ps3. so I'm wondering if this is like the whole clock issue a while back where older ps3 were affected yet the newer slims were not.

I was getting the error. Checked right before the post and it was signed in. As you see others are too. Pic taken about three minutes ago. Note date and time.

Extremely off topic... Where did you get that avatar and what is it called? Its Owens racing's avatar.

I'm still getting outages... I get dropped from the PSN more or less whenever I try to load a new time on GT Academy. I may or may not have broken some things in the apartment yet...

Since this is a general discussion, does anyone here have any problems with having one account on two PS3s? I'm on my first PS3 (haven't been on it for a year almost because of travelling) but there's a problem logging in.. On my second PS3 (which I bring with me when I travel) I have everything set; password, trophies, etc.. I come home, dust off my first PS3, update it, attempt to sign in, encounter problems... I enter the updated password from my second PS3 (100% sure it's correct) and it doesn't work. I click on "Forgot your password" and enter the birthdate. It tells me that it sent me a message to my e-mail (which has been blocked <hotmail> and I can't unblock it.)

Long story short, can anyone help?

PS: Don't tell me to "move this post". Try and help, or offer some advice.
PPS: Is it possible that Sony is asking me to change my password on my second PS3, therefore my account is on standby? (or I really forgot my password:grumpy:)

Advice/suggestions are helpful/needed. Thank you. (The good community of GTPlanet)

I realize something recently- I've owned my PlayStation 3 for about a year now. Thanks to everyone who have commented with me on the PS3. I still feel I'm a bit too late to the PS3 party. I somewhat feel like I've missed out on a lot of PS3 titles. But as they say, better late than never. I am somewhat between wanting to buy a PSN card or two to maybe buy some online-only games, or perhaps getting "Little Big Planet 2."

Glad to be part of the PS3 party for at least a year and change now.

LBP Is a great game :) Either one should be experienced by every PS3 gamer :sly:

I just got a new internet connection, 100Mbps upload and download! The laptops are getting great speeds but the PS3? Less than 1Mbps! I've done some googling and tried a few things but nothing seems to help. I've done DMZ, NAT type 2, and some fiddling with the router settings. It's actually slower than the old connection was. :banghead:

Any ideas why it's so slow now?

Are you using WiFi or wired connection? I remember reading that the wifi receiver on the PS3 is only a type b and g receiver. If you have a Type n as a base connection on your router, then it will inherently be slow because the PS3 has to convert the signal to something that it recognizes.

As I understand his situation the only thing different was the service. He was already online before.

The ISP may be blocking or slowing video game connections. My ISP recently upgraded as well, but Netflix has suspicious connection issues nearly every night around the time prime time shows come on. Nothing else acts up. I have an unfounded suspicion that as a cable company and ISP it is in their interest to disrupt Netflix streams.

I tried switching to g only, it didn't really affect the speed. And I'm guessing that would hinder the 2 wireless n devices in the house. :/ Has anyone ever used a wireless-n adapter for PS3? Like this? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0024G48VA/?tag=gtplanet-20

It could be some kind of "fair use policy" So his internet will be slowed if he uses loads or at peak times.

Interesting. I'll have to do some testing at different times and see how the speeds vary. Too bad speedtest.net won't work on the PS3 browser. I've read the upload and download speed in the XMB network settings can be wildly inaccurate.

I'll do some more testing and report back :dopey:👍

PS3 have terrible wi-fi. My PS3 gets 10mbps on it's own test with ethernet plugged in, and maybe only 1mbps using the wi-fi even with the wi-fi router in the same room a few meters away. My netbook will get 9-10mbps on the same wi-fi.

That maybe true.

Still, I wouldn't be surprised that it is an ISP issue. I have Charter, and I generally average 2.5 Mbps upload and download on the PS3 test on WiFi. If you have Time Warner or something to the like that owns TV channels, you could be facing either a data cap, or a phantom device limit(if you have phone service with the same company).
