If there's someone who you come across repeatedly and they commit the same offences, why just not send them a PM and tell them to knock it off? I've done that on occasion and it works. The problem is, punters don't have a lot of communication with communities like gaming forums, they're outsiders and most of them play the game without realising that they're developing a poor reputation and people don't want to race against them.

If we keep knocking them about, then they're going to think it's okay for that sort of behaviour and continue to do so, because they think it's 'acceptable' when it really isn't.

But I suppose the easiest way is to introduce rooms. We just gotta be patient I guess...

You can't keep generalising and assuming theyll change because of a PM, i know some maybe most may, but the problem will never be solved whether you messaged them, or hit them back. As said above your post, it's something we can all deal with in our own way, but it won't stop in the public rooms with the current penalty system and so on, which rewards the punter more then the clean driver.

From what i hear, 90% of them don't reply to 90% of our other members who send angry mail.

when i have tried to retaliate, after getting hit heaps, i always end up getting penalised... Why can't folk just race properly... But at least the penalty system is better than Grid Online demo... damn cowboys and idiots spoil it...

Yes, exactly, so its purely a matter of choice whether you ram back or not. (not condoning it here, just saying). It doesn't make a difference either way, but personally, I'd rather end a race and be able to say I never intentionally punted than to say I taught someone a lesson.

+100 👍

I messaged a persistent punter once and never done it again 👎 .. his reply was along the lines of ...

"Go **** yourself a**hole and get a faster car and learn how to play this game and maybe you wont be crying to me like a bitch"

Thats why I will only race online now when its an arranged meeting and guaranteed to have a few tagged racers for a better all round meeting, then my nice side can stay at the wheel for all 3 laps ;)

I raced online for the first time last night, just got Prologue on Friday.

Have to say, I can't wait to get out of the beginner races and move up to be with you guys, the drivers show no class. I missed my braking point on Fuji in the GT-R and punted a guy. I slowed up to let him by, and he still decided to stuff me into the wall. I also managed to be taken out of the lead at the first turn every time due to "over optimistic" braking. Did I retaliate? No, even though it was warranted. There's no point in playing if you aren't going to play clean. It's a simulation for a reason.

Well, I started playing GT5P maybe one week ago and I've been doing just begginer's races. Mostly Fuji with the Nissan, but also Suzuka with the Amuse.

I don't see any GTP_ drivers there, I guess you guys are all playin' GT5P for ages and are all now in the professional races. I'll get there, sooner or later.

But, from what I've tried so far, there are only two tracks where being a good clean driver usually pays off. Fuji and Suzuka. All others are for cheaters and their ramming and wall-riding technics.

toracer32, I took note of your username (guess you're using that same PSN), if you find me (probably in Fuji begginers with a white Nissan GTR) be sure that I'm no punter, and also that I don't hit back. Never. Any contact made by my car, if it isn't caused by others, is just an accident. If it costs you anything, I'll slow down and let you pass.

My PSN ID is GTP_Hun

Don't get your hopes up sunshine.

GTP events are great but, in general, professional races are nothing of the kind :grumpy:

Looking forward to seeing you on the track tho. One more clean racer sure wont go amiss 👍

It would seem that the only real answer is private races, where it will be possible to exclude the deliberate punters. This kind of "retaliation" will probably be the most effective at sending a message to the overly aggressive drivers out there.

To be honest, I'm not sure if they'll even notice. On the other hand, we won't have to care about that when we have private rooms. I just hope PD is seriously considering this yet. As much credit as I give those guys, if the large fall-update of Prologue won't include this, I can understand if there'll be massive uproar.

I messaged a persistent punter once and never done it again :
I my self have sent messages as well, and have gotten a similar answer : (**** O** A****** , if you can't drive, then stay off the track ),well my time off the track is due to you being a D***-H***. I just don't understand these idiots, come on private rooms !!!!!

I vote no

When I found myself reentering a race for the sole purpose of revenge on the person who had just punted me, I realised it was kind of getting in the way of actually enjoying the game. It used to matter to me, but I just can't care that much any more. I've won more than enough races to know that I can hold my own in a fair race. If someone who can't beat me fairly has to resort to punting me, then thats just proving they can't drive as far as I'm concerned. Nowadays if I am punted more than once I just quit to get out of sync with them and find someone else to race.

And on that, I would say that in my opinion the number of punters seems to be decreasing. I guess with GTA4 and GRID, that mindset has other options now, but whatever, there seem to be more people out there prepared for good clean racing. I had over 8 clean races in a row on the Daytona Oval the other night, formerly a punters paradise, and was not punted once. Lets hope thats starting a trend.

Finally, I believe we all make an impression with our driving simply by being out there, whether we are wearing our GTP tag or not. If more people are out there driving cleanly and not getting involved in retalitary duels, then others new to online will realise that is a better way to play the game. Some will never be convinced of course, but in the end that will be their loss.

I've always wondered what kind of reaction I would get if I wrote a PM to these punters. It figures that they would ignore it or do the reverse and attack you once again, but I was hoping for a more clear (bug on the wall) response. If it actually stops someone from crashing and bashing, then great, but I have my doubts. I think a lot of this is a result of (mostly) kids not knowing any better having been trained by so many other "racing" games that have aggression as a feature.

The recent changes to the on-line events have made it easier for some of the punters who have been mainly in the Beginners events to move up, though. I've seen a whole new bunch of them recently in higher powered cars and not just at HSR. Some of these characters can drive, so they can still wreck hovoc, be difficult to catch, and they frequently win now, which must reassure them greatly that "might is right".

Which brings me to a new (to me) solution that I have heard of being used to bring some balance between the clean drivers (pacifists?) and the aggressors and that is the roll of what I will call the Punisher. This player will try to get into a position to take out someone who is a blatant punter and put him into the sand or wall. As soon as he tries to extricate himself from his position, the Punisher puts him right back into the dirt or wall again. The Punisher takes the view that the punter just won't make it over the finishline - period. The end results seems to be that the punter drops out of the race leaving everyone in peace and doesn't come back.

I haven't seen this in action myself yet, but based on what little I have heard of it, it seems to work. I'm not condoning it, just describing a different tactict not mentioned in this thread, so far.

Cheers,

MasterGT

Excellent point. This is the only form of "punting" that I will perform.

I've tried being completely passive, punting when I'm angry (on a very limited basis), and trying to "prep" for a punt (adjusting my speed, line, etc.), all to no avail against a serious basher.

In the punisher role, it isn't about punting to win, or punting for retaliation. It's calculated aggression, designed to send a message that cannot possibly be interpreted any other way. I'm all for it.

ok, I've changed my mind a bit... so When they are braketesting + waving and blocking, I won't let them to have their victory. I won't punt them off, but overtake so that they can't bumb you off, usually from the inside. I just gently lean on their side and that's about it..

I hate to say this but I think when private rooms come along it'll probably end up being a fun diversion to have the odd 'anything
goes' mad max sessions
No, it wouldn't be fun at all. it'd be plain silly. Anyway, the reason i wanted to post...

Unbelievable! i get punted by some random spaniard, but he appears to realise he's done wrong and waits down the road for me to regain
the track and give me back my position

'What a decent chap' i thought. Then, as i draw level with him, he punts me again! :grumpy:

Got him back later though :D

I've been criticised in the past for 'elitist' thinking, but now I wonder if GTP is becoming an Elitist forum in itself...

When comparing yourself to the average ram-jockey, is there any alternative?

I sure as hell don't pride myself in being crap :sly:

I'm sure the noobs don't either. Lack of experience or just plain youth mean that these guys probably think they're pretty good. Some of them are downright foolish, I watched a guy run away with a 20 second lead in three straight races last night whilst I fumbled around the track having dices with some guy in a yellow Evo. Didn't like the Evo driver on the first race, but by race three, he had earned my respect. The guy who kept winning was in an R8, so I decided to switch it up and give him a run for his money.

I managed to take out the next three races in a row, but as it turned out my opponent in the R8 was one of those guys who couldn't overtake cleanly and kept bumping people out of the way. He was very quick, but DESPERATE and at the end of the day, I found myself going back to the RX-7 and looking for that guy in the yellow Evo again. We weren't going to win any races, but at least neither of us were frothing at the mouth to win a race at all costs. So I went to the back of the pack again, left that guy to his lonesome 20 second wins and spent the rest of the night having some good races where I kept finishing last or second last.

Some crap drivers are good, some good drivers are crap.

"Don't argue with an idiot - they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

There's nothing more satisfying than sticking to your principles and handing a cheater's arse back to them on a silver platter.

That is very true, however sometimes a persistant pest needs to swatted to prevent them from buzzing your bumper. 💡

i just love when they constantly try and try.... and make them selves spin out.. i just had a race... this dude... sigh

tried to take me out 4 times in one race on high speed. he tapped my rear each time and tried to make me spin.. luckily i am a good drifter. lol,i would tap the e-brake a bit and start a drift lol. and maintain it.

****ing douche nozzel this guy was.... sending him a message would be a waste of time.

i say no, two examples follow, 600pp gtr on several occasions pushed me wide when he was inside forcing me off track, the last time he did it to me, i thought enough, so when the next occasion arose i cut inside scraping his car but not enough to force him off track, since then he seems to be a bit more courteous. Second example, red Ferrari again pushed me wide forcing me off track this time not sure if he slowed on purpose half way round or had gone off himself but me him and GTP_Hun ended up having some fun round the course for the last two laps and then also for the next 4-5 races, we would hang back and race kind of amongst our selves, i'm sure that would not have happened if i'd gone after him for revenge

He was waiting you.

haaahah this topic really brought out the devils tonight lol... here are 3 back to back races at High Speed Reverse 750pp i recorded tonight.. I am using my amuse s2k

in one of my vids you will see, i was allowing one guy to pass and i guess he took it as me blocking, you will see him constantly tap me lol. I won about 10 straight races before recording these races so it seems that dudes just had it out for me. however i just drove and followed my lines and made decent positions

Dirty guy in beginning stops dead in tracks

Fellow S2k trying to take me out

Toward the end... example of bad miscommunication

I retaliate if it's convenient for me. If I have to put MY race at risk to punt the punter off I wont do it, but if I'm following a punter and they go wide, I'll jam my nose in and send them into the dirt.

yea... yesterday also.. there was a 3 way race.. down the home stretch i was in 3rd.... the douche monkey in 2nd decides to try and stop.. i baited him lol and whiped right around him lol... he basically wanted me to hit him to a second place finish lol... what people will do to win.............

Hey Big, just watched your UTube videos. Some dubious racing out there, very childish and terrible in terms of skill. You look like you did alright with some of those guys but there were areas where if I was the guy behind you, it would look like you're trying to block. There was clearly one instance in the first video down the main straight where you were trying to overtake the guy in the yellow Vette and it looked like you were squeezing him off the road.

You might take that legitimately seeing as he was the one who brake-tested you at the start, but the amount of biff-and-barge going on was shameful.

There was also another instance where you moved onto the racing line coming off the second last corner and the guy behind you had such a good run, he hit you pretty hard. For me, that's an instance of you blocking.

I dunno mate, some very iffy racing. Personally I wouldn't be posting things like that because more than anything, it puts your own driving under scrutiny as well....

hahahaha..... thing about me bro is.... separation.. this is not a major issue to me. i race in reality. so whatever is said about my driving on a game will not hurt. this is not to put anyone down, but im not going to get mad over a game... sim whatever we are calling it lol. i just thought that i would be racing against elite guys at all times.. i didn't take into account the people who really have not been playing GTx since the beginning like many of us here.
