What track for round 5?

  • Total voters
    20
  • Poll closed .
FWIW, did a few minutes of testing at La Sarthe. Car should be geared to top out just north of 200 mph. 3:57.589's my best lap, but anything under 4 minutes should be enough to stay competitive.

Everyone left right at 7, I was going to pop in but figured I wouldn't risk someone dc'ing about watching.
I presume Tim Won?

Congrats on the win Tim, nice job. 👍

Thanks. :)

After the tire test I was looking forward to racing you for the points lead. But c'est la vie, was a fun race regardless. Now you have to win next week. :sly:

Report
Practice I was having trouble getting under 51 but after a track reset it was good in qualifying. Got several 50's but then Rich popped to the top with a 50.5 on a massive sector2. I could go blue in sec1 then I'd dump a few tenths in s2 to end up +.2-3, then claw back to +.1-2 at the 3rd timing line doing 50.6-9. I had one smoking hot one at the end where I hit T3 at 1:21.4xx which is pace for a very low 50, but couldn't hold it through the chicane, smoked the outside tire and landed +0.062 :ouch:

so, no bonus point... GJ to Rich. 👍

Lucky got a good take off and so I lost 2nd, but rich ran wide and so me and lucky ended up getting away. He was only doing 51 though, which was frustrating since he was fast enough at the right places that I couldn't do more than put lots of heat on and wait for a bobble while watching husq in my rear-view closing the gap. :/

Lucky gave me a spin on lap 5 with a turn 3-4 drift. Picking my way by safety cost a few seconds so husq was now less than 2 back with a nice gap to the field. So I had to start pushing to gap husq before the pits... I guess at some point lucky must have lost more ground than he wanted because he dropped out a few laps later to put Rich back on the podium.

I was running a perfect 2-stop (10,10,10) so I came in on 11 and husq followed and we came out with pretty identical stops. Rich and Litchi went by so I started pushing strong on the way out of the pits in case the off and on made Rich go for the 1-stop. Thankfully I saw Rich getting service at the end of my out-lap.

Litchi was on old tires so I caught up to him knowing if he's 1-stopping I need to get by... I did, but he didn't make it easy. Husq got him a few corners later (team orders?) ;) and that bumped my gap down inside a second and probably inside the tractor beam. So I needed to try and break away, but he did a fine job of pressuring; was stressful gap-management for the entire 2nd stint as I pushed down into the 1'50s husq just kept on my shadow. :scared:

Once the tires couldn't hold 1'50 anymore and I'd gotten enough to break draft the gap opened up a bit as it seemed I was able to do *better* 1:51s and 52s at the end of the stint. So I had almost 4s in hand on 20 when I saw husq vanish and assumed he'd pit early to try and jump me (at least that's what I would have done). So I decided to shred the tires that I didn't need anymore and try to go all Michael Schumacher on the in-and-out laps.

I did a pretty decent job as I thankfully had Rich behind me so I could use the gap as an indicator of pace. Rich came in about 10s behind me and I managed to get out with a few second lead on Husq. Figured cold tires be damned and went flat out with a few slippery moments but I kept 2s of my lead and started trying to claim fast lap before the tires went off.

My best so far was a 1:50.490 and with the draft I didn't think that was enough. First go was a 50.7 which husq was only a tenth or two off of behind me. Next one I botched sector 2 and came through at 50.5; which husq was still only a tenth or so off of keeping the 2s gap. Lap 25 was the winner when I hit the T3 line and saw 1:21.1 on my last push of good rubber, just a little more grip in the last sector and I would have had 49...

1:50.142

That gave me some good separation and I was able to turn it down from 11 to 9.5; take off the Senna attitude for Prost knowing I don't need to beat myself, just second place. Spent the rest of the stint for the finish just watching the gap to my shadow. GR mon ami. 👍

Tough break in turn1 Rich... looked like you had good pace given you ran down the podium. 👍

edit: oh, dragonwhisky... looks like you had a good race 👍

edit2: also thanks for the snaps Mule. I went ahead and did up the points... HOLY 3 way tie for 3rd 1 point behind 2nd. :embarrassed:

Also got nerdy and with my drop being an 11 that would put me > 22 clear of the massive war for 2nd.
so, wheee it looks like I am win :D

Woo Hoo!

Congratulations Tim 👍 But husq could still tie you I think (Pole + fastest lap + you DNF + Outlaws luck).

I really should have practiced, I have never raced on this track and my total time spend on this track is 4 laps. The first few laps were mad, after that it I spent most of my time trying to pick a line T3 and T4.

Litchi and I had a good battle at the end when we both had very worn out rear tires. I had the upper hand with front tires.

Thanks for the mention Doc.

I had a bit of help. One racer is hamstrung at the moment. Couple of others spent more time shell grubbin' or lawn mowin' than I did.

Lucky had a bad spin coming out of T4 (think it's 4 anyway) early and I just squeaked by. Kinda glad Grayfox chose to one stop. My last pit was lap 23/24 and he went by and although I was catching him, I don't know if there was enough race left for me to pass him. He decided the grass around turn 9 needed some trimming and I was lucky enough to be on fairly fresh tires and close enough to get by. As he and I are close in points this made me happy. Would have rather caught him on track for the epic finish, win or lose it would've been more fun, but we don't always get everything we wish for.

Not sure if I'll be able to make the sarthe race. I will be having a go at the andretti racing experience thing that day and am not sure if I'll be back in time to race. Will be practicing for it anyway just in case. Gonna have to work in some NASCAR practice too in case Mule picks me up for that series. Stoopid werk anyways. Not enough time.

That sounds like fun. BTW sorry for spinning in front of you on lap 1, I was just pushed into the sand trap and didn't have the grip I thought I had.

I didn't practice at all for this race because I had planed to work but I left my job sooner.

I turned on my Playstation at 11h00 PM (start at 00h30 am) and the lounge was open. I've decided to join and had a 2-clean laps before Q-times (1'52"2 and 1'51"8).

I was lucky to do 1'51"3 at the end of Q and send a sms to Litchi : "Ouppss". I didn't have the hope to be better than him, it was a little surprise for me.

In the end of lap 3, I don't know how but I was third and I just tried to avoid any mistakes. When Lucky lost control I wasn't so far from Tim and I have decided to do my best hoping to catch draft.

When Tim decided to pit, I was a little bit surprised, I thought to do 15 laps so I choose to do the same. I confess, Litchi was kind with me so I could come back to the draft area. I did a little mistake and I lost contact with Tim and as I knew that I was slower than him I pit for second time one lap earlier. I came back to the contact few laps and finished watching behind me because outlaw was faster.

To sum up, my race was a big joke, I was slow but I used Tim as a tool helping me to be faster, laps after laps I became better.

Next time, I won't be able to race at all due to holidays in French Riviera indeed I couldn't finish the season on the top 3 and Tim will won the championship, congrats!!

I really enjoy this Camaro and this cup, big thanks to everyone

Not even sure I remember that. First lap is always hectic for me with the crowd in front jockeying for first turn positions and it's intensified if I'm actually in the middle at that point. Was a fun race and while still no pace, I'm getting better at staying on lead lap.

My car wasn't good enough for low 50s. I pretty much threw a setup on the car, and went with it, thinking I'll put along in the low 51s. When I got the pole, I was pretty happy... until I realized I'd be on the inside. Once I realized it, I busted out the keyboard, hoping I can plead for the outside instead. Too late. Tried to get a good start but Lucky somehow got an even better one (still don't know how), and had taken my inside, forcing me wide. I managed to keep it off the grass, and thought I could at least keep 2nd. Then I saw you come on screen, we barely touched, and off into the dirt I went.

I ended up about 6-9 seconds back which I never could get back. :ouch:

Right now I'm dropping an 11, so even if I got 0 at Le Sarthe 11+72 = 83.
Husq can only get to 79 with a perfect score. ;)

Well, it'd be more exciting for the last race to matter regarding the championship winner, but I doubt I could help there anyway, because It seems I'll be working this Sunday evening/night.:irked:

Must have had 2 months or more of Sundays off in a row before I started racing again. That's my luck though I guess.

Great to read your reports guys!

Awesome report from Tim.. I can almost visualize me beeing there.. 👍

And nice to see you on track again Dom!
I really hope you can join the ZR1 vs Zonda R Series.. If only for one race. 👍

Following Rich I too went right into the dirt behind him. Swear the game does. Follow the leader type of thing. Maybe it's me. LoL

Ran behind Rich for a bit. Thanks for the tow.

Ended up 4th at the end. Second stint on tires I was on it. 50.8 alone and strings of 51.2's and faster. Carr was right there looking to steal me gold. Ok fourth but shoot in this crowd that is the gold.

Fun race. Love these cars. Sound good. Run good. Mule Let's repeat this series when it's up. ;)

I do too, I've grown bored racing the same cars around the same tracks(This Camaro was refreshing) so it would be nice to race something different.👍

You know. Without that disconnect, I would've had 70 points. Just saying. :sly:

Just realized the number of laps at La Sarthe. Think that needs to be shortened because that makes sense only if we're doing double points.

Oh come on. Sarthe Enduro's have been a part of my series' since the beginning. ;)
