Do any of you recall ever seeing a wet race at Monza? Malaysia, Spa, Silverstone, Interlagos, I seem to recall many a wet race at those, but not Monza.

Edit: I just remembered Jensen Button at Jaques Villeneuve last season... That was a Hell of a race.

Back and still alive, my internet is working again.

Now with DMZ and presumably UpNP enabled.:dopey:

presumably? :odd:

Here's my not-so-special setup. Essentially, it's values that I had used in the past for other series.

pngcarsetup.php

This tune requires proper brake/throttle application through corners. If it's still too loose, bump up the dampers to 3/5 - 5/3.

Thanks for posting, I see my tune is not even close to right...

Messed up T1 on both my quali laps so I was 1s slower than I wanted but didn't wad up the car so I'm pleased. Outlaw is still stewarding my room so I'll leave the numbers up for now.

We tested one under race conditions and the car is great on SS @ < 30%. But can we get a change value > 0? or do we just restart the track until we get a rainy start? With no change value if it starts dry it stays dry and we end up with a dry race after 5 laps.

Why do I get the feeling Jason's blowing a gasket right about now?

After a few practice races, I found out my rain setup's drivable enough in the dry that I don't need to make another one. 👍

Alright guys, I'm out of here really early in the morning so if you need anything go ahead and post it here. I'll have my phone obviously and will have access to the app most of the time.

That's what I'm saying. If we can't go into settings after track reset we already know whether we're getting a dry (mostly) or wet race. :)

I think it goes beyond (mostly). The grid-lap will eat up ~15% of the surface water (anyone else think the track drys way too fast?) so it's basically 2 laps on cold tires and a dry line from there on out.

Personally i hope it dries up on race day. I ran some 3 lap races with a few of you and i was about 10 seconds behind after 3 laps in the rain. But on a dry track i could stay with the leaders and run much more consistent lap times. It seems like rain has the opposite effect in gt5 compared to real life; in gt5 rain, the fast drivers get faster and the slow ones get slower.

That being said, i think it is still fun to have the possibility of rain to change things up a bit.

Ayrton Senna must have played a lot of GT5 :sly:

I think it just because with a wheel or controller, to be fast in the rain you need to feel safe with the tail out.

Yeah, I was thinking that as I prepared the car yesterday. DS3 in the rain has to be pretty hopeless. The only way to even the odds of wheel-vs-controller in the rain would be to take away our ABS. ;)

Looking at the latest forecast, chance of rain at Monza is at 80% for Saturday.

Therefore, I believe it would be fair that, at least for Division 1, to reset the track until we get rain. After all, we are supposed to match the track to actual conditions, right? :sly:

I disagree. I finished 2nd in the JGTS race at Spa where it was a monsoon the entire race, so it is possible to do well in the wet with the DS3 ;)

Why is the DS3 bad? I used a DS3 and it is easier in the rain.

On a side note: took an RUF Yellowbird around the Ring with 70% surface water on sports hard tires. I did it with my controller a while back. This time with the wheel, I found it was much more difficult. It took two laps to get it right. Had a blast drifting around, through. Great practice. Finally starting to get the hang of drifting with the wheel, I finally figured out how to get from lock to lock faster.

Everything I remember about using the DS3 is that it has awful precision on throttle control... which is precisely where rain races are won and lost. There's a free 1/2 second exiting every corner for those who can make traction where there is none by expert throttle control (see Tony in the spa-JGTC monsoon).

If you're going to the steering locks your're at 200° sensitivity or you're doing something wrong. :?

To be fair, everyone but Tony did pretty bad in that race as well. ;)

I went from last to 4th and I started on the wrong tires to give everyone a 5 minute head start.

^^ Yes, I have the throttle mapped to the left analog stick, it has an annoying dead zone but still is smooth.

I don't think the DFGT has a 200° steering profile. I was taking about going from a full opposite lock drift (not really going for a time attack just fun), to another opposite lock drift. I could keep up with the transitions before, my hand work was all wrong.

5 minutes for a head start? How many people were racing and how long was the race?
That must have been fun.

Yeah I know  Being in a GTR I already had a huge advantage over the NSX's in the wet, plus I started on the right tires, and I also managed to keep the car on the track the entire race. If everyone else had started on inters, I wouldn't have done nearly as well.

*fun* is one word...

GT500 JGTC race, was almost 2 hours of torrential monsoon... did my first lap on race hards @ 30-50% surface water.
