Qualifying Procedure

At road courses, there will be two sessions of qualification. Firstly the room will be reset and there is a 10 minute session in which everybody has the chance to set the fastest lap they can. One the timer in the top right corner of the screen reaches 10 minutes you must finish the lap you are on then return to the pits. Positions 7 -15 after this session will begin the race in their Q1 position whilst the top 6 will advance to the second part of qualifying; ‘The Fast 6’. These 6 drivers then partake in a second, 10 minute qualifying session identical to the first but this time it’s for pole position to 6th on the grid.

At ovals, there will be 4 lap solo qualifying runs in the hour and a half leading up to the race done in free run. The track must be clear at all times at the request of the race director, if all qualifying is done before the scheduled green flag time, I will allow cars to go out and shakedown pre-race. The first lap will be your warm up lap and you will be instructed to exit pit lane and begin this while the last qualifier is on his cool down lap. Laps 2 and 3 will be your timed laps; the fastest lap of the two will go down as your qualifying time. Your 4th lap is your cool down, at the end of which you must enter pit lane. As soon as a qualifier finishes his 3rd lap, the next qualifier will be instructed to leave pit lane and begin his warm up.
There are two exceptions during the season. In the week leading up to the Indy 500 you have 3 attempts at a 4 lap solo qualifying run which must be observed by a steward. The starting grid for the 500 will be determined by who is fastest through the entire 4 lap period. At the Daytona Twin 100’s there will be ‘heat qualifying races’; everybody will partake in a 5 lap race, finishers 7-15 will start in that position for the first 40 lap race but the top 6 will race in another 5 lap shootout for pole. The second 40 lap race will be reverse grid with no qualifying. For both the Indy 500 and the Daytona Twins, extra qualifying points will be awarded.

Oval Pace Lap Rules

When the race begins, nobody moves from the grid. The safety car will pull up through the field and take the lead; then the IndyCar grid will start rolling behind it. Form up in single file behind the safety car and follow it round the track in qualifying order. Around turn 3 or 4 you must form up in double file or triple file (Depending on track), with the leader getting a choice of which side of the track he wishes to start from. At the end of the lap the safety car will pull into the pits, you should still drive at the speed limit until the first car passes the start line (or the pit wall at Indy) after which we are under green flag conditions.

Motegi Oval – 2 wide start @ 80mph
Indy Oval - 3 wide start @ 80mph
Daytona Oval - 2 wide start @ 100mph


Road Course Pace Lap Rules

Once again, let the safety car through to the front of the pack and follow it around the track in single file. Warming your tyres is allowed, but make sure you leave plenty of room in the corners. If a car has crashed during the lap you are free to pass it if it has left the track or spun. Pace lap speed is 70mph. The safety car will pull in at the end of the lap and then the IndyCar grid will begin to form up on the grid for a standing start. 1st place car will park up in the furthest (and first) grid space and the rest of the cars should park up in their respective grid positions as decided by qualifying. It would be a good idea to familiarise yourself with the grid at each track before the race so you have a vague idea of where to park. A time will then be typed into chat and said down the mic (2.00 e.g); this refers to the race timer at the top right of the screen, when it reaches the time typed onto chat, the race will begin. False starts will be penalised.

Starting From The Pits

If you receive damage on the formation lap, you may pit at the end of the lap as the rest of the field lines up on the grid (or rolls onto green flag on an oval). But when exiting the pit lane, you must wait until the last car has passed pit exit before you accelerate away. If this hasn't happened by the time you reach pit exit you must brake and wait there until the field has begun the race and passed you.

Pit Lane Rules

On all tracks with a pit lane speed limit you have to slow down to 60mph before you enter the pit lane and the computer takes control of your car. These tracks are listed below and all others have no speed limit. There are a couple of tracks that cause issues before and after the pit though so I’ll clear them up:

Indy Superspeedway: On entry, you don’t have to use the long access road under green flag although you must do so when the race is under caution so that the cars staying out are aware of who’s pitting in. On exiting the pit lane and re taking control of the car, do not immediately turn right onto the track after turn 1. Instead, you should follow the inside pit road all the way round and exit after turn 2. There is no speed limit on this pit exit though as it is relatively simple and slowing down would be pointless. Check that there are no faster cars approaching from behind when you re-join on the back straight.

Daytona Superspeedway: On exiting the pit lane, stay on the inside of the track (to the left of the yellow line) until you are clear out of turn 2. This is to avoid accidents on the high banking. Speed on this pit exit is unrestricted. Check there are no faster cars approaching from behind when you re-join on the back straight.

Motegi Oval: On entry, you must commit to pit lane on the backstretch by pulling under the apron and continue around turns 3 and 4 under the apron into the pits. On exit you must stay below the white line and can only re-join the track when you reach the backstretch.

On all other tracks the pit entries and exits are pretty simple. You must have at least 2 wheels in the pit entry/exit lane at all times. Here are the tracks with pit entry speed limits of 60 mph and no limits:

SSR5 – No speed limit, enter at any speed.
Indy Road – No speed limit
Indy Oval – No speed limit, take care not to get a penalty though
Daytona Oval – 60mph pit entry speed limit
Twin Ring Motegi Oval – No speed limit
Tokyo R246 – 60mph pit entry speed limit
Twin Ring Motegi Road – 60mph pit entry speed limit
Madrid – No speed limit, take care not to get a penalty though
Rome – No speed limit
Laguna Seca – 60mph pit entry speed limit
Monaco – 60mph pit entry speed limit

Cautions

Caution will be called after an incident involving 2 or more cars, pits will be closed from the call of caution and the field will bunch up at 70mph at road courses or 100mph at ovals. As soon as the first car a lap down reaches the pack, they may overtake the pack and gain their lap back under the ‘Lucky Dog’ rule. Once everybody is together the pits will be called open and cars will be free to enter; everybody who stays out will accelerate to a certain speed specific to each track upon cars hitting pit lane and restart the race single file next time by. The cars that have pitted will be able to go full speed upon exiting the pits and will be able to overtake once green flag is called by the cars that stayed out. This creates a 15-20 second cushion between the groups, a suitable but not over the top penalty for pitting.

Green, White, Chequered Finishes

If a caution comes out with less than three laps to go in the scheduled race distance we'll go into 'overtime'. The green flag will be waved after the caution procedure above, and 2 laps of racing will remain. If there is another caution on the first lap after green, we'll have another attempt at a GWC finish. We will have up to three attempts at this and if there is a caution after the third, positions will be frozen and the race will end in the positions at the time of caution being called.

Alternatively, if we clear that second to last lap caution free and the leader takes the white flag, the next flag ends the race. For example, if there is a yellow flag the positions are frozen at that time and the race will end.
Please not that due to extra laps added onto the GT5 lap counter in order to make GWC finishes possible, the race will not actually 'finish' in the game; I'll make everyone aware of which is the final lap and when the race is done via text and voice chat. After the chequered flag is waved, on the cool down lap, finishers from 4th down must return to pit lane but the podium finishers should congregate on the home straight for a podium photograph for the thread.

*Note that there are no cautions in the last 3 laps at the Indy 500 as the maximum number of laps disallows the use of GWC finishes.

Lapped Traffic

Lapped cars, or cars about to be lapped must always yield to lead lap/faster traffic unless they are much faster than the lead lap car due to new tyres/low fuel etc. Any sustained blocking will be penalised.
At restarts with less than 10 laps of scheduled race distance to go, any lap down cars are obligated to drop to the back of the pack and allow the lead lap cars to fight for the win.

Mics

Microphones are very useful for communication during a race, allowing you to ask questions and call out your position on the track to other drivers, useful on ovals. Therefore I recommend having a mic for this series, it's not compulsory but it is advised. During caution periods there shall be no talking on the mics except from me, Joe and the safety car driver. If you do not have a mic, please turn the race sound effects down and turn your TV up so you can hear the announcements being made down the mic.

Continuing the Asian leg of the season we head to Tokyo for the first of two road courses before the mid-season break, and the first three street courses. This high speed track will probably prove to be quite a challenge for the whole field, particularly due to the narrow first sector with barriers on either side, meaning the slightest mistake could cost you a lot of time. Don't assume that means no overtaking though, because with it's long and wide main straight and a couple of heavy breaking zones, we should hopefully see plenty of action this Friday.

The IZOD Dan Wheldon Challenge

2011 Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon was set a challenge in the last race of the season at Las Vegas, to start from last place and win. Unfortunately he was killed in a horrific accident during the race, but as a tribute to him this challenge has been created. Whoever wins the Indianapolis 500, should they choose to accept the challenge, will start from the back of the field at the IZOD IndyCar World Championship race at Daytona. If they manage to win the race, every driver that takes place in the season finale will have to send a prize car to the winner.

You are permitted to drop your worst result as long as it isn't the Indy 500 or the IndyCar World Championship race. If it is, your next worst will be selected.

The top two points scorers for each team will have their points count towards the constructors championship.

Causing an incident or not following the rules will either result in a time penalty as defined by the PURE Incident Penalty Outline, seen here or a deduction of 5 championship points and +2 for subsequent incidents at the discretion of the league host. We will also utilise the PURE penalty solving structure of Contact (talk to all drivers involved), Confirm (studying replays and any other evidence), Convene (at least two officials will pool their findings) and Convey (show the results publicly, appeals are allowed).

Manufacturers Points System

1st place = 9 points
2nd place = 6 points
3rd place = 4 points

Manufacturers' Championship points are awarded based on the finishing position of the highest finishing car of each respective manufacturer at each round.

Awesome, you will need to sign up on the PURE website (click the "points standings" link in the OP) and then later sign up to this championship after you have joined a team which you won't be able to do yet because two team owners have just left so it will take a little while for them to sort themselves out 👍
Talking of teams, now that Joe and Tom have left, Penske and Ganassi need new ownership, so could Owens and Nel, Matty and Smuffy decide who is going to be the new team owner and then Ace can join one of your teams, depending on which one of you want him :)

I think Nurb would be a little too difficult in these cars with heavy damage, plus overtaking would be nearly impossible. :) That and it's not really and IndyCar like track.

Hi guys!

I'm not 100% sure what races I can and can't make. Kids dictate a lot of what happens on Friday evenings.

However I'm interested and if real life was more giving of time. I'd be fully committed.

So if you fill up with committed racers. Then move me to a reserve otherwise I'm in when possible. :)
 
Quick thing to clear up from Motegi, Smuffy didn't use the proper pit entry because he got engine damage on T4, so just dived straight into the pits, I worked out it gained him around 3-4 seconds, what penalty do you guys think he should get, 5/10 second time penalty, 5/10 point penalty, or no penalty at all? Just so I can finish off the table :)

The entry to pit road was kinda confusing. LoL Whatever the rules say for penalty is what I'd go with. Accidents happen.

As well I'd let Smuffy reply before making any decisions.

I won't make one till Smuffy's replied and I've got a few opinions in. I'll try and find out what the rules say. The PURE penalty system says 10 seconds, but its only guidelines

Ok, so that's 5 definitely continuing, and obviously ace has just joined so that makes 6 :) hopefully I will get more replies soon.
 
Will we start the season again or carry on? Perhaps remove the races we've had as void and just have a shorter season maybe?

Just ideas, dont really mind :P
 
Nope, we will keep the points from the first few races and carry on from there, don't see any point getting rid of them :)
 
I only have 6 confirmed people and there's a couple of things I want to suggest so probably not.
First thing is a different quali system for ovals, the one we have takes way too much time, it shouldn't take an hour for quali and I for one get bored hanging around for ages not being able to go on track. Not entirely sure what to replace it with, maybe keeping the 2 hot lap rule, but let more than one person out at a time and disabling collisions.
The second thing is timing, I want to know from all you Americans how early our time you can get on, just so that the races are less of an ordeal for us and more something we can enjoy.
