Awesome Wardez man :D. Didn't know you needed to use a manual car to get used to manuals though. Your job looks pretty cool too, you setup all the flashing lights etc?

Me too. But the NDA makes keeping the secret worth our while :)

But you'll find out soon. First episode airs on the 1st of November next week, so we'll see!

@Paul
Thank you sir. Yeah I was driving an automatic for years, so I needed the time in a manual in order to be comfortable with everything in England, especially the Formula Fords with their wacky transmissions and tiny gear selector stick.

Not much improvement tonight.

Nissan Z:
20.940 / 19.340 / 16.881 / 23.922 = 1:21.083

Notes:
Very dicey in Sector 3. Not comfortable with the kink or going through the corkscrew with power. Pretty good in Sector 4. Right rear's wearing out the most. With a steady race pace, runs 21s for ten laps, 22s for another ten, and then the aforementioned tire causes times to dip into mid 23s the last few laps.

Delta time is around 22~25 seconds. However, based on my gas gauge, some petrol is required, but it won't be as much as Fuji, maybe 10 liters or so.

For those that have experienced glitches on pit entry for Laguna in the past, some good news. You can be more aggressive on entry without having the game kick you back out again. Haven't done much testing, but it appears that as long as the car can make the turn without hitting the wall, there should be no further problems.

Man I'm dragging or I'd join you. If you need a stewy. I'll check back in a few.

Andretti Hairpin - Personally, a corner I never get right. It's all about carrying speed on the first part, and then getting good rotation for a clean exit. The first part is what gives me fits.

T3 - I like braking a little early and coast it to the apex with speed. Otherwise, the car goes wide on exit.

T4 - Use every bit of track. This one's best handled with a brake jab, and a late entry. If you turn in too early, do not correct. Yes, you'll mess up the apex, but it's better than having the car dart to the outside, and get stuck on a beach.

T5 - At least for me, the entry's visually deceptive, causing early turn in. Personally, I like having the gears set so I can downshift for a moment, and then upshift for the exit.

T6 - Guarantee someone's race will be ruined here. A chunk of time can be gained here, but the risk of going wide is high, and then this may happen:

Best advice is that you don't try to play hero and go 100% through here every lap.

Corkscrew - Before the top of the hill, there's some rumble strips to the left. Put your car there and then cross over to the right. That should keep the car relatively stable, and minimize braking distances. Be careful in oversteering in because you'll likely get into a spin when turning the other direction. Aim for the outside instead.

Rainy Curve - Ideally, there's only a small throttle lift about a quarter of the way through here. The key's having confidence to power out at full throttle without worrying about going wide. There's good grip at the exit, so be brave.

T10 - This is where it's best if you can manage braking while turning right after the 1 board on the left. From what I see, some slow down too much which causes the car to get nervous at mid-corner.

T11 - It may sound nutty but start braking right after the "3". However, do this at around 75%, while keeping an eye at the apex. Now turn that car while keeping some brake on, release, then power out. It may seem slower, but in most cases, those lap times will drop, and there's no chance of going into the dirt.

One final suggestion. Knock down all the boards on the outlap. Believe me, there's no point relying on them because on race day, at least half will be gone by Lap 10.

Not qualifying now, no.

EDIT: I left; Nige is still in there.

Some great info' up there Rich, nice work buddy.

@ Eddie - Great interview and can't wait to see more :)

Car felt good tonight and thought about qualifying, but no stewards and I was too tired so I've shut the room above down for the night. Hit a couple of 20.3's, and a lot of mid 20's, but still no guarantee of going below 21 for quali' :D

Thanks a lot guys.

And yeah I hit a better stride today and was able to eek out a 20.5xx but there's so much time to gain still. I think I've got the first sector going as fast as I can go at around a high 19 but I keep getting random sectors from then on. Most time I'll be able extract from is probably turns 5 and 9, then to a lesser extent turn 10. Getting those couple right really makes the difference between a fast lap and a hot lap.

Nice write-up ..... and this last one is a very good piece of advice.

Laguna is such a challanging track. First I thought its because of the sand but I don't think it is. If it would be grass instead it wouldn't make a big difference.

I know of no other track that hitting every APEX and going through the corner at the max speed using all the track width on the exit is more important. It leaves Laguna with sort of a love-hate feeling. You got to love it as its such a challanging track but then you hate it as its so hard to get it right.

Pretty sure ive seen you do 19 8 in sector 1 josh , saw adam do 19 7 yesterday

20 4 yesterday for me hope to do that again today

If I did 19.8 in sector 1, I'd do 1:19.8 by the finish line. My quickest lap was 21.0 on first sector and 1:20.9 by the finish line.

Also, I didn't answer to Dave, but yes, I may have to get used to manual. My fear is that it will take more than a few days to actually be quicker...

Shouldn't have typed that up at work. It was a high 20, not 19.

If someone gets a 19 it's because of a draft, or is just hysterically good.

Do it, do it, do it! It will definitely be worth it. :)

I hope to quali later on.

I'm going to be on in about 2 hours for an hour or two.
Need to get my Q in today..

D2 here I come!!! 👍

Man! Just ran a 1:20.087 with a quarter tank. That was ballsweat.

Splits:
20.766 | 19.053 | 16.490 | 23.778

Funnily enough, I was getting so frustrated with my practice that I decided to give Manual Transmission a try. I thought "if I have to feel frustrated, at least I want it to be part of a learning process!". And while it took me a few laps to get completely used to it, once I did, I hit a 21.4, and soon after that, a few personal milestones.

I can "easily" hit 21.0, whereas with AT I would only hit 21.0 on a very very good first sector. And I got 20.8 there, which makes me really happy of course. In fact I was able to carry a very good lap (by my standards) until third sector, but if I was less than 2 tenths away from the best time of our current session, I lost 3 whole tenths in the last three corners, so I need to find out why exactly. But still, 20.9 is my PB now, with MT! (Old one was a higher 20.9 with AT).

So we can safely assume I'm completing the transition to MT quite successfully. Of course I need more practice to ensure I don't make mistakes and all that, and to make sure I can get the most out of the car. I think I still need to figure out Rainey and the following corner. I don't think I do stuff differently (Rainey in 5th gear and shifting to 4th in the entrance of next corner), but apparently it was not enough. Oh well, more practice may throw nicer results!

Cool

Many thanks :D

Every one be mindful. We're doing qualifying runs in the room I posted above.
