That works fine then, np. 👍
I'd have liked to hear how it could be different or actually affect a qualifying run to be held on the actual track we're using, what inconsistencies could come into play, but if we just rather would that's cool too. :)

I'd rather not do a full time cycle, personally.

12 hour day passing over our race would be cool. Start like 10am track time and finish at 10pm. Or noon to midnight?

Just got to say that most people being lapped were great but some where just too nice which in a way was more frustrating because I had no clue what line you would take next if you get my point.

Person getting lapped moves off racing line and "gives" the racing line to the person overtaking - isn't this common knowledge - general practice?

Person doing the overtaking just needs to be sensible - don't get 6 inches off the lapped person rear bumper, give them a couple of car lengths and give yourself room to manoeuvre i.e. move out of slipstream well before corner.

Lapped people should be aware and constantly checking / looking for faster people coming up behind and pull over.. Everyone has access to track map and rear view mirror.

If not, why are they racing in such a prestigious series??

Both racers need to show respect and common sense then there shouldn't be any problems at all. Only time this might differ is when either or both are involved in a 'postion battle' - but then, in this situation more then ever - common sense and respect should surely be shown, especially in a long race with full damage?

"All the disconnect issues"?

Please don't say Biffy or Rich, no offense to either.

I was just counting 3-4 DNFs in 2 races.

General rule of thumb is "hold your line", ie: don't switch lanes

When adam and tony lapped me it worked out best to just let them pick when they wanted to pass me. Coming up to the last corner adam was right on me so I broke late and took the wide side of the last corner and adam just dove inside me np... maybe cost me only .1; tony came up the next lap on the straight and I just took the wide late-apex in andretti and he went right under without slowing either of us down.
In both cases I didn't hold my line, I gave them the fast one and took the slow one. That's how blue flags are supposed to work.

Yeh, that's what I presumed...

If I hold my line, surely that's going to make it harder for them to overtake, plus I will hold them up for longer..

If the fast guys doing the lapping know they have the right to the racing line, and position themselves (out of the slipstream) and to go the 'inside' of the lapped car, then the lapped guy simply runs a wide line, or pulls over and the fast guy goes through easily and quickly.

If I hold my line, then I haven't a clue whether they're going inside or outisde of me.

As I use 3rd person view (car on road infront), my rpm / gear / engine noise gets drowned out by the car behind, meaning I have to take my eyes off the road and check rev counter sometimes - to avoid bouncing off the rev limiter, or knowing what gear I'm in.

On top of this I have to try and look to see if the guy behind is going to go inside or outside too....??

Sorry, recipe for disaster imo....

I'm always checking my map and looking behind to see when the fast guys 'are coming', I know exactly where they are, so much easier for me to run wide and just pull off (the racing line) and give it to them..

But - if that's the rule i.e. stay on line, from now on - that's what I'll do... 👍

(apologies in advance to all the fast guys who catch me up at the Porsche S's at Le Mans)...

I thought he had meant slowing down and letting the guy past on the straight. During the D2 race, I was right behind a 1-stopper after I had pit for the first time (I was 2-stopping), and out of the last turn, I'm about to get a run on him when all of a sudden he pulls down to the inside and lets off the gas. If he had done that a second later than what he did, I would have been all over the back of him as I was just about to pull out to pass him. I passed Kevin the very next lap down the straight by drafting past him and he stayed on the outside.

But If I was in your spot (which I have many times) I would have done the same thing that you did; take the outside line and let Adam/Tony pass on the inside.

As one that is usually lapping cars, all I ask is whatever the other car does, it doesn't surprise me. If I get a run, and there's time for me to complete an overtake before the next corner, I prefer the driver to hold their line. Otherwise, conceding the position by going wide is just fine. It's all dependent on the track, and the relative speed of the two cars. There's certainly not much of a problem at a place like Sarthe compared to a twisty track like Suzuka.

You guys are so fast lapping people !!!!

I think ill change my setup for sarthe , i raised ride height and softened the rear end for laguna , ill go back to lower ride height and a stiffer rear end than front .

Ill try to go on after work today for some laps.

I will be trying a low downforce setup , it might just work here with all the straights

Dom, Will, and I did some laps yesterday. Given it was our first laps, we didn't want rain or night. When the weather/time got changed on the track, I think my tires didn't heat up ie I got affected by the tireheat bug.

It would be great if someone else could test it. I will a bit more. If by changing the track time/weather it resets the track and the tireheat bug comes into play, we might need to review our plans to run with weather/day/night at the event on Sunday.

I'm going to warm up for like 30-45 min, then I'd like to go.
This is pretty much my only shot..

Personally, I don't think bump drafting should be allowed at any time.

I don't think it should be allowed either. Especially at big tracks like La Sarthe.

CSLACR
By the way, Laguna setups transfer semi-ok to Sarthe.
Main thing I'd advise is lowering shocks, particularly compression, and arb's.

Thanks. I used a stable setup from your thread and it worked great at Laguna. Last time I raced a long one a La Sarthe (28 laps) the rear tires wore pretty quick. Guess that's why you lowered rear shocks some. What about spring? Should the rear get softened to help avoid bouncing?

Same here. I say set it to real time. I like to make it as real as possible.

Try changing views. I use cockpit cam and my rear view is my track map. It works quite well. Hasn't caused an incident yet...

I'll see if I can check that with Dennis now.

Assuming you still need a steward, I'll be in in 5.

We have to leave bump drafting as an unwritten rule. If people choose to do it, they can. So do not bump draft someone unless you've clearly talked to them about it and agreed to do it before the race, otherwise assume all drivers to not want to bumpdraft.

Also, a few notes for round 3 at La Sarthe:
Time change will simulate 12 hours starting at noon ending at midnight (in-game time), standard version of the track must be used for all qualifying, no weather for the race, and for Sarthe, we will use .1% for every small off and 1% for a dirty lap and 1% for qualifying done after deadline.

Please let me know if there should be any other concerns.

I'm hoping to put up a video displaying new track boundaries and limits soon. The basic "two tires on the blacktop" rule should be good enough but there are certain areas where it seems like you're going off track because of white lines being in the way. Do not pay attention to the white lines in the chicanes. The only solid white line with out curbing next to it that we will use to mark the track boundary is at the end of the Mulsanne straight (long straight) on the left side, do not cross it with more than two tires.

Just ran my Q.

Thanks for comming out Dom! 👍
This was most probably my only shot this week.
I'll might find some time on Saturday, but that's up in the air for now.
Hope the time is good for D1..
We ran 51's here last season, but that was with an NSX and old track bounderies. We'll see.. :scared:

awww... seriously? we're still insisting on "cheating" the chicanes?
why ignore those lines but not others?

Sorry guys Im a bit confused by what is allowed and what is not allowed when it comes to track limits . I really don't drive this track often.

Im sure I will see some of you in practice this week so if you see me do anything illegal , please correct me .

Because those lines are clearly only for road use and it makes no sense to abide by them under any circumstance. It's just too weird being able to ride the curb but still have to worry about a line that's separated a full meter.

Like I said before, a video will be put up to make it absolutely clear.

Finally got time to talk about the race.

First of all, sorry for exiting the final corner a bit too fast. I'll be more careful next time. :ouch:

My eyes were quite saw on Sunday so it didn't help when I was able to race. No but seriously, thanks Eddie for not turning up. :P Technically, you won. I hope you can make it next week though.

Me and Tony had a good ol' battle, both making mistakes in the first stint. Before the race I was going to be doing a 2 stop, but since Tony was pretty close, I decided to do what ever strategy he was doing and react when he does (Vettlel like ). Tony was 6-7 seconds behind me when he pitted. I pitted the lap after since I had a bit of slipstream from Nige but I think it was a bad move because I think my tyres had just hit another cliff lol. I took a few more litres of fuel than him, but he still came out less than a second behind me! My driving was definitely worse in that second stint but stayed with Tony me for quite a few laps.

Just as I pulled away I came up to Tim who finally moved over - just joking ;p it was quite tough getting on your bumper with the tyres I had. I then caught up to Dennis and since Tony was close I knew I had to put a car between me and him. This separated Dennis from Jason (sorry about that :s) and I was behind Jason until he overtook Wii and Johan. His tyres were just good enough to stay in front of me, at which point I decided to back off and let everybody race since Tony had a few problems with spins, traffic and damage.

Overall, a good race and I'm sort of looking forward to Sarthe lol. Big 👍 to everyone in D1.

I also feel for the people that got DC'ed. >.< ugh hopefully you have better luck in the upcoming races.

I was thinking of the outside line that everyone enjoys ignoring as long as your back on the road by the next kerb. And the way everyone also loves cutting across/driving on the red shoulders. These are some of the reasons I usually skip LeSarthe. I lost all sorts of time in the CALM race simply because I wouldn't draft off people when they went off onto the shoulders.

LOL, and my tires were pretty new but I couldn't stay with you for more than 2 laps.

Starting from the back I decided to do an F1 style long+short one-stop. Drove nice and smooth taking care of the tires until lap 31 then driving like hell for the final 26. Turned out to be a bad idea... don't recommend it as Jason killed me on the two stop and I lost buckets of time when eager beavers on fresh rubber wanted to dive under anytime there was daylight. IIRC Nige and Jason were the only people that took me cleanly and indefensibly through Andretti.
Nige especially... got totally undressed by his sticky GTR
... check the mirror, ok, lets try and hold him up some... oh wow that's just not going to work. zoooooom ... :ouch:
