In PCARS1 singleplayer career mode you can swap to the driver AI for about every race when you pit. I'd like to see this blocked (or an option for this block) so that it's more in line with the real life motorsports (only possible for endurance races). Is this changed in PCARS2?
It's single player man, just let it go! :) If it was allowed online or something yeah, I can see your argument. Offline people should be allowed to do whatever, as long as it's possible. By the same token we should say "no controllers allowed", since real drivers drive with the wheel :)

You know you're not forced to use this right? You can do the whole race yourself or team up with friends if you wish.
Although I find it pointless to let AI drive for me I don't mind other people doing that in their career, the way other people play their career won't affect the way I play mine.

In theory that's how it works. I'm not 100% sure that it worked correctly in pCARS 1 though, but I can't say I've done some specific testing to verify it. I can say that I've done multiple races on British tracks with real weather and it usually didn't rain, so that's why I have my suspicions :)

The problem with the REAL weather in pCARS1 is the website being used and the limitations of the API involved. Becasue of the use of the free API (for obvious reasons) weather updates are limited to a 3 hour period, meaning you could only get the weather at certain times of the day, and the game would present that weather for the next 3 hours. It would not get another update until the 3 hour window had passed. IN other words, you could get weather at 8:00 AM and then no change until 11:00 AM.

The other issue is that the free API does not allow for historical data, so you could only get current and future REAL WORLD TIME weather. So if you set your race date to be Saturday, but in the real world, because of time zones etc., it's actually already Sunday at the track's real location you would get Sunday weather.

It actually all got a bit complicated, although it worked OK if you understood the limitations.

The last issue is that I am not sure where that site gets their weather data from, but they have had a very hit and miss record. Their forecasts are often VERY different from EVERY other weather site.

Any word if the same API will be used for Pcars2 and if the same limitations still exist in Pcars2?

Thanks for the extensive answer :)

@IanBell @The_American @Cluck I have a few questions for you guys:
1. Why have some cars been shown in various gameplay footage, are still not in the list? This goes for example with the Ferrari Enzo and the Lambo Aventador. The TBA's don't quite fit them.
2. Any news about doppler effects?
3. Is Classic Imola coming?
4. Regarding the Japanese Pack and Motorsport Pack, are they preorder bonuses ONLY, or can you get them if you purchase the Season Pass? And are they counted with the 4 DLC Packs promised or are they not?
5. Is there ever going to be a competitor for the 98T (eg: MP4/4, 99T, etc.), or even the Radbul (eg: Madbul, RTR Spec 5 ..)?
6. Are we going to see different types of backfire/exhaust flames? IIRC PC1 only had the flamethrower effect, but I'd like to see small pops and crackles as well. Is it implemented?

2. Any news about doppler effects? - I'll leave somebody who can hear properly to answer that (I'm not being evasive, I genuinely have awful hearing)
3. Is Classic Imola coming? - It's not in our builds, that's all I know.
4. Regarding the Japanese Pack and Motorsport Pack, are they preorder bonuses ONLY, or can you get them if you purchase the Season Pass? And are they counted with the 4 DLC Packs promised or are they not? There will be 4 additional DLC packs that we know of, on top of the Japanese and Motorsport packs :). The Japanese Pack will be available to purchase at a later date (saw this confirmed on Twitter/Instagram this week). The Motorsports Pack will only be available if you purchase the Season Pass.
5. Is there ever going to be a competitor for the 98T (eg: MP4/4, 99T, etc.), or even the Radbul (eg: Madbul, RTR Spec 5 ..)? No idea

Answered what I can in-line :)

I'd love more visual variation in the backfires - the flamethrowers look odd to me when mated with explosive 'crack and pop' overrun audio. Gran Turismo's little explosions seem a much more effective fit for that kind of audio. Cars can produce both types so... why not both?

Is it possible to have a custom race and select specific cars and not a whole class? If I just want 10 Ferrari LaFerrari vs 10 Mc P1?

and is there a way of balancing performance between cars? Restrict Power? Add ballast?

I know the first part is a no.

PC1 was going to have psvr?

Yep. They posted it on 26th March 2014 which basically was why I went ahead and bought a PSVR in the first place.

"we’re proud to announce today that Project CARS will be supporting Project Morpheus giving players a totally fresh and exhilarating new perspective on what it feels like to sit in the cockpit of a high-performance machine screaming around a beautiful location"

PSVR was released late 2016. Project Cars stopped patching mid 2016. You had a good few months to double check :/

http://www.playstationlifestyle.net...-launch-game-coming-2016-early-2017/#/slide/1

Its not on the release list.

Now I dont disagree the original plan seemed to include PSVR but that statement was in early 2014. it became pretty apparent they had a problem getting enough out of the PS4 to do PC1 justice for anyone remotely interested in either PSVR or PC1.

Did you really not check anything regarding supported games for 2.5 years ?

Sorry if I come across harsh - I know tech can be a minefield with the ifs and buts etc.. but 2.5 years is a very very very long time in tech terms and so much changes from early design goals / mission statements and reality. I would doubt SMS had a working final PSVR in March 2014.

Sure you can turn that around and say then they should not have said XYZ... still as a consumer until there is a final product I would not count my chickens before I read the actual facts - which in March 2014 were simply not available.

@The_American @Cluck
Curious, I watched a video with Indy cars and I'm wondering if I have a field full of these official livery (and driver?) cars, are the Tony kanaans, Scott Dixon's, and Will Powers cars going to be better than others? Or will I have some random no-names winning?

Exactly what I was thinking. Will we actually get some rivals in this category?

In the Career only, yes. I set the strengths more or less based on 2016 Indycar final points.

For quick play we draw random non-Indycar names from the database and assign random strengths even though we reuse the real liveries.

So the most authentic Indycar experience we offer will be in the Career mode
That's a well thought out design decision. I fully expected a response saying the skill level is randomly assigned. 👍

Cool. Can't wait to become the second Wilson to win in a Coyne against superhumans like Scott Dixon. Although it probably will be a one off drive because of other commitments before doing a full season.

Would have loved to have the same experience offline in a single race or an offline championship but you guys get that a lot. :P

Oh I checked a lot, they were asked a fair few times on the lead up to the PSVR launch on Twitter and forums and they always avoided giving a yes or no answer to if it was coming, it sounded like they were going to patch it in seeing as they were so confident so early.

But hey ho, once bitten twice shy and all that

@IanBell Will it be possible to drive the Monza Oval counter clockwise? The reason I ask is that when the Indy Roadsters raced that circuit in 1957 and 1958 for "The Race of Two Worlds" (Monzanapolis) they ran counter clockwise. The video which I have seen of PC2 shows the Indy Roadster running clockwise which looks very wrong with the offset cockpit.

This is one of the races I am looking forward to recreating in PC2, but obviously I would prefer the cars to be going in the right direction to match history and the cars mechanical layout.

Interesting...I didn't even know there were multiple setups planned.

"
I just learned that it turns out that the devs ran out of time to implement a controller-sensing default setup, so there will only be one default setup per car, and it will be tweaked for pad-playability only (because market realities dictate that pC2 HAS to be drivable on pads out of box).

Yes, it's not ideal and nobody is happy about it internally. I'm HOPING that default, SMS-blessed wheel setups will be made available somewhere. The guys at SMS are open to this and there's an ongoing discussion about how we (WMDers) can help make it happen.

Terribly sorry that this functionality didn't make it in. :( It's definitely not because SMS didn't care enough -- sometimes **** just happens...
