Had any of you mods held grudges inside against other members for their outrageous behavior? (or anything similar to that)

Oh, we'll remember people who've caused trouble, but grudges? No, not really. If someone is abusive and spiteful enough to get on your nerves in real life, then they're abusive and spiteful enough to have been banned long before they get to that point.

There are people who persist in trying to get back at moderators by re-registering over and over, but as Famine has said: What takes a troll hours of work to do (multiple log-ins, spam messages, spam pms), we can simply completely erase with a few keystrokes.

It's basically like trying to spray graffiti on the outside windows of a skyscraper. We can simply open a window and push you off. :D

Do mods feel that they get more respect from us very simple, humble and normal members since they became a mod?

Or is it the opposite?

:)

Let's just say that our Mod words have some more weight but ONLY if the recipient is willing to accept them. There are always those that turn very abusive and cannot or will not see it from another's pov. Our member-role words should carry the same weight as all others. You show respect to those that know more on a particular subject and people will show you respect if you're more knowledgable on something else.

Is it hard for a moderator to participate in threads as a normal person? Because in the Genera Relationship thread, someone thought a mod was moderating but he was actually just participating in the topic.

It shouldn't be. When you get into things that allow for different view points that shouldn't always be taken as disagreeing with my opinion = you want to start a word war to get banned. If the conversation is civil, it stays on topic and people are being courteous there is no reason for a moderator to take off his baseball cap and put on the riot gear material.

We don't particularly like having to do our modly duties - it's never hardly ever fun to ban or infract (spammers or troublesome RBM's don't elicit much remorse) - so I'd like to think we're usually participating as "normal" people. As normal as racking up 10k+ posts on a website dedicated to a videogame racing series can be :P

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard a variation on: "You're a mod, you shouldn't take sides in a debate!" I'd have maybe... a dollar.

This isn't debate club.

Of course, we shouldn't take sides in a fight, but that's different.

You're not supposed to talk about Debate Club, niky

Sure, it wasn't known as Australia then, but those locals and their rum!

I didn't know that one particular rum-drinking-local is that old. It seems that rum is the fountain of youth.

*runs off to store to buy rum, ..... lots of rum*

Sorry if it's been asked, I don't want to scavenge 75 pages, what does it take to be a GTP moderater? And is it all it's cracked up to be?

You have to be absurdly handsome, so how I weasled my way in is anyone's guess.

Or for the real explanation, check the FAQ.

As for the second but, for the most part, yes. You're going to have the occasional trash to take out but for the most part we go about our normal visits with a detour here and there. Don't get me wrong, though - it can consume a fair bit of time, but many hands and all that... 👍

Thanks. I'm a bit tempered, but aim to be one... Someday.
