I was completely surprised when I was offered the Modship way back when, and also more or less completely surprised when I was promoted to Admin a few years after that. Then I hung up the badge, though, because I wasn't around here enough to be effective in my job and it was time for someone better suited to carry the hammer.

I've been in that situation before. I've been mods on other sites and the admin asks me if I want to be a mod and I'm like, "Umm... sure. I guess I'm good at it."
Nothing as big as a place like this though.
