Have you guys ever eyed (stalked) someone and waited for him/her to f:censored:up just so you can have an excuse to ban him/her because you don't like him/her personally? Maybe because you're annoyed by his/her personality in the forums but he's/she's not breaking any rules for you to give a warning or to ban them.

You really think they would admit it if they did? :rolleyes:

But no they don't. If you get to that point you really are not a good mod. Even if you are a regular member stalking someone to report them I would think you are strange.

Go on a sweary rant, for example, and yes, we will be looking at you closer than normal as typically those kinds of people will continue with the same behavior.

As I've said before, the staff aren't the ones that decide if members stay or go; you do that to yourselves. We're just here to show you the door if necessary.

Oh looking at people more closely maybe. I was thinking downright stalking them because you really want to see them banned in my response.

We'll warn each other, sometimes, of troublemakers, but no, no we don't. Stalking is too much hard work. I mean, first you search their posting history, then you look up their IP addresses and E-mails, then try to find out what they've done on other boards... twitter... facebook... create a fake Facebook account to friend them with... ask them questions about "those Nazis at GTPlanet"... and then see what they answer... and if the answer is what you think it will be, you then arrange an eyeball meet with a couple of friends out behind the nearest 7-11 at midnight, one involving stockings and lead pipes...

The only reasons I always wanted to become a mod are not acceptable. :grumpy:

* I would stalk every member that I don't like.

* I'd give them such a hard time, they leave GTP without me having to ban them.

* I'd haras, insult, abuse, bully these members, they wouldn't even know what came over them.

* I'd buy a plane ticket and visit them at home and change the password on their computer, so they won't be able to log on to GTP anymore.

* etc....

* etc....

:D + :bowdown: = :cheers:

[joke ofcourse]

@Jordan are you rich? :D

In all my time as a mod, I only infracted the same account twice if and only if they dropped a sweary rant directed at me (or the mods) in immediate response. That's because I feel we should act with impartiality. Usually, someone's been cautioned by multiple members before they're shown the door, although there's cases when a member seems to show up repeatedly in the same thread that same mod was in...in that case, guess who's going to respond first?

Do you want to become an administrator again? Be honest! :D

If I thought I could devote the time and attention this place deserves, I'd love to. Unfortunately, that's not really in the cards right now.

Thread bump.

How does reporting a moderator work? Say I reported... Famine, could he see the report, and dismiss it? Wait, can you even report staff?

How can I contest a moderator’s actions? (#)

You are welcome to contact me privately if you believe a moderator has made a decision that I would not agree with. Depending on the situation, I may or may not consider it appropriate to reply. However, I will review all complaints and will take action, privately, if deemed necessary.

Yes he's able to see the report. He won't dismiss it.

All Reports arrive in a central location the staff can all see. At the top of the forum. In red.

We can all see all of the Reports - whether they're about us or not - including any that have been resolved/rejected and by whom, along with any reasons given. There's also a discussion box for each that, if something is a bit weird about the report or needs clarification from staff other than the first one to see it, we can all contribute to.

You can Report staff if you like, but it's not really good practice - Report is used to report AUP issues to bring them to the staff's attention and if you're reporting staff, at least one member of staff is already aware of it :lol: In fact in a lot of instances where a member has reported a member of staff, the member of staff will have already commented on the brewing issue in the staff forum. It's amazing how often that happens, in fact - we can often tell when someone's going to get tired of our involvement and report us.

Typically, moderators won't deal with reports of themselves - they'll leave it to other staff members. Or escalate it up to me or Jordan. I can only escalate to Jordan so if it's me that's been reported there's not a lot I can do - but I'm happy for other staff to deal with it.

You're more likely to want to comment on a moderation decision from staff than an AUP issue and the best way to do that is as @kikie quotes above.

I'm not even sure you can tell when someone is banned at all.

Staff can, obviously...

The only time I can tell someone is banned is when you click for their profile page, all I get is an "error" page. Also, if you followed them, they get taken off your list.

But otherwise, no.

Just read the Banned User Log. How does self request ban works? Is it only a sarcastic way of saying the user wanted to be banned hence "self request" or is it a real thing? Why would anyone want to banned themselves?

Edit:

I'm thinking, can self imposed temporary ban remove some warnings on some users?

Let's say GTP is taking over my life and my grades are plummeting. To keep myself away from the site, I request a ban.

Note: This is just an example, I don't actually want a ban :P

Why are people able to follow banned users? I clicked on a permanently banned user's profile, and I have the option to follow them.
Not really a question about mods but a good question.

Sounds like a "t" that didn't get crossed or an "I" that didn't get dotted. I'm sure this is at the development level of the software.

You can start by writing PM to mods with 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 words, and make a thread that is against the AUP. You will definitely get banned and it is, indirectly, at your own request. :lol:

From my point of view, it usually goes something like this....

eejit who has just received a warning
Go on. Ban me. See if I care

me
OK. If you insist. Bye then.
