Looks great Mr.Latte and make sure you'll list all the equipment you have once the time comes for completion. Have a great new year you all!

Thanks Timppaq, Im looking forward in 2012 to getting things all together.
Triple screens is a great game enchancing feature, shame more console games didnt support it.

Equipment used :
3x Optoma GT750 Projector
Optoma 3D-RF Classes & Transmitter Kit (3x 3D transmitters needed)
3x PS3 (the old fatty ones)
3x HDMI

Happy New Year Mr Latte,

I think my wife is about to ban me from reading your threads :)

Good luck with the project..

Here's a question I hadn't thought of until today: to race on the DLC tracks with triple monitors do you need to pay for the DLC on the other 2 PS3's or does just the server PS3 need it? If they all need it I'll wait until the XL version comes out since it will have all the DLC on it already.

Just the server PS3 need the DLC. Of course the other 2 need copies of GT5.

In Nov I put together a similar setup with 3 ASUS 24" monitors. It is a blast!

I'll keep an eye on this thread...as I'm working on my own multiscreen (3 projectors and 1 small screen for rear view mirror) setup primarily for Forza and PC. I've decided to try some GT5 action so picked up 3 PS3's and games today. I'm at work right now installing and updating on 3 machines..and it takes ages lol

One thing I'll be looking at is maybe having 2 sets of screens. Forza has limited multiscreen options but it seems GT5 is better equipped so I am hoping that maybe I can have bigger screens while keep the cockpit a sensible size, if you know what I mean.

I do have a small update for my project. I have all 3 PS3's up and running with all firmware and software updates downloaded and installed. I had asked earlier whether I needed an ethernet switch, but my router has 4 ports in it and I was able to connect directly to the router without a switch, so that saved a little bit of coin.

I am still awaiting delivery of the monitors, I did the "ship to store" option from walmart.com and they are expected to arrive today. I did a quick test with my current tv's, I use a 32" lcd to race on and my 50" dlp is right next to it so I pulled the 50" over to a ~45º angle next to the lcd and hooked up one of the consoles. It worked! I was able to have the 50" displaying the right side view and even though there's a giant difference in size it worked pretty well and was incredibly easy to setup. And I mean incredibly easy, at least to get everything functioning. Getting the view angle and bezel width dialed in will take a little tinkering but getting it to function was a piece of cake.

So, crossing my fingers that the monitors will arrive today and if they do I will post a detailed review with pics and video sometime this weekend. 👍

Whilst I am more of a Forza fan than GT (eek) I must say setting up GT5 multiscreen was a breeze, so much easier than Forza and everything works out of the box.
I do have a query though because I'm sure I've read here that in GT5 you can adjust the multiscreen setup/angles on the fly...but I cant see that you can, you have to come out and back to the options menus..or did i miss something?

I already had it working without a switch. My router has a LAN switch built into it with four ports. No need for an additional switch.

You can adjust on the fly in the sense that you don't have to exit out of the game on the server console. I was in an online lobby the other night and was able to adjust the settings on the side screen (not the center screen) without leaving the lobby. Just hit circle on the client PS3 and you can go to the settings screen, make your adjustments and then re-initiate client mode, all without leaving the lobby or current race mode that you're in. That's what they mean by "on the fly".

I see, thanks for that :)
I assume though that means you can only change the client screens which doesn't help if you're using the server settings across all screens? (for ease more than anything)

^ Correct. If you're using the server settings you can't make any adjustments to the clients. I don't plan on having the clients use the server settings though, I want to fine tune it so everything lines up just right and has the right perspective.

You can only have one server, I'm confused why this is so complicated. I had mine up and running in minutes. One server, two clients.

The obvious setting in the game was to select 'use server settings' across all screens but then you cannot adjust any angles etc without coming back out. I didn't realise you could adjust the clients individually as the manual and on screen help doesn't mention anything.
I may give it another go this evening...although aftre a few hours of GT5, I put FM4 back on and realised I may not need to plug the PS3's in again :D

I love both, they both have their good and bad points. Don't disconnect the PS3s. GT5 has a way of drawing you in. I also think GT5 has at times a more realistic bloom lighting. They're both really good.

I've got mine up and running, just about all the way dialed in too. Very easy to get functioning but takes a whole to get the angles and perspective right, which is critical. I'll have more detailed info later but here's a quick photo and video.

Here's a quick video of my buddy trying out the new setup.

Very nice, hopefully the more people who enjoy this will get the word out to console makers and game revs that we want this standard from a single console next gen. I try to show all my friends and they all love mine and want to setup their own. Words getting out more and more :)

A few more pics. These are multiple photos stitched together on my phone, that's why my G27 looks funny. Monitors look correct though.

Here's the Alfa TZ2 cockpit.

...I'm going to rent a couple of consoles and games from blockbuster at the weekend and have a play with different sized monitors before I go for it..

..I've currently got 1 50", could I put the another 2 50" monitors at the sides of my cockpit?

or do they need to be on low angles as all the examples I've seen except the 5 monitor demo on youtube?

All of my monitors are the same size, 3 @ 23". I would think you'd want to keep all the monitors the same size, I've only seen a few examples where the side monitors are smaller and it caused things to not line up properly.

The one thing I would say is 50" is very big unless you are a long way from it..and that may defeat the object of 3 screen IMO. At 50" you'll find the steering wheel is bigger than you ;)

I started with my 3 projector project at around 48" per screen and ended up settling on 38" screens and sit approx 40" from the screen with them angled at 45 degrees. The immersion is stunning, the FOV is perfect and it's about as 1:1 as I can imagine.

Obviously, this all depends on how far you are from the screen :)

Like anything to do with screen sizes it really comes down to FOV and screen distance to the actual suitable screen size.

Using a conventional projector and single screen will not have accurate scale for say a car dash, wheel, mirrors. The realistic scale isn't what the user always wants. What matters to most with a projector is how the bigger screen can be more entertaining or visually impressive.

With triple screens it's more difficult as you need to have a comfortable FOV and viewing distance. Ive said many times and peoples own configurations usually back this up. With triple screens a distance of approx 1x screen size is a good starting point. Personal preference has a lot to do with it too. Various games will always have different sizes in the cockpit view so its not an exact science or one solution is accurate for all games.

Im still going with 3x 60" at approx 5-7ft back but also run with an optional 120" 16:9. Theirs no way Im limiting my build to a single 60" screen for single screen games and I'm wanting to experience large single screen or multiscreen eventually in 3D too.

This is does not have to be the case.

I'll been soon showing my tripple screen setup with a 55" lcd in the middle and two 46" screens on the side.

In the tv menu of the side screens i'm able to zoom the picture and increase it to the same size as the center screen.

I will show more pictures when the setup is complete.

De tv for right side is still hanging in the living room, just told my wife today that we're getting a new tv in the living room.:)

She wasn't happy about it though.

The good thing about this is that one investment gives me : a new tv (probably 55") in the living room and the extra needed 46" side screen.

The center screen is a Samsung D7000 serie (with the small bezels)

haha cool re change screen size^

I didnt get around to renting another ps3, I've already got two after repairing my YLOD, so I bought another copy of gt5 for a two monitor test... ie config as x3 but only connect hardware for x2.

with a 50" plasma in front (2.5 metres away) and a 23" pc monitor positioned about 60cm away from me and to the side... I could get the screen to line up enough to get the affect... if I closed an eye it looked like the pc monitor was the same size as the plasma and hanging on the wall, hmm this would be easier to add to my cockpit than redesigning the room to have 3x 50" plasma.

As fast as my wifi is, it lagged the side screen, so I dug out my old hub to connect the PS3s but this gave me problems connecting online and got disconnected shortly after eventually joining a room.. most rooms were saying I had an incompatible network. I'm putting this down to my old hub as those problems were present with just one PS3.

Although I found the extra monitor to be just be eye candy (It didn't make nurburgring feel any wider)... I did feel a bit sick after burning out tyres doing doughnuts and watching the tyre smoke lol ...and I really missed it when I went back to 1 monitor to play online, I found myself constantly glancing at the now blank 23" monitor *-(

I have a decent switch to try tonight instead of the hub, if online is as fine as using a single PS3 then I think I will just add a couple of 23" wing mirror monitors to my cockpit, otherwise I would have to lose a dart board and an arcade machine just for the extra TV space.

That's the thing with a tripple screen setup

Once you have it, you'll never want to go back to single screen.

Tommorow my new Living room tv arrives, so i can finisch my tripple screen setup.

I'll use it for PC racing only at first and later i will probably invest in a two extra PS3 for GT5 and 2 extra xbox 360's for Forza 4.

The PS3 only has 206mb of useable RAM, one screen of GT5 pushes that to its limits so there's no way it could process/render 3 screens worth of data. Plus, each console only has 1 HDMI output.

I have a question for Latte. How do you sync your 3 projectors to one set of glasses? I've been thinking about doing a setup like yours with 3 gt750 but I haven't read any where if 3 of them can work in 3D Mode with one pair of glasses. My other option is 3 LG tvs with passive glasses but I think I'd rather go the projector/no bezel route if possible.
