When it comes to racing, do race cars actually contribute to, or hurt the environment? I heard of the Panoz Q9 hybrid racer back in the last decade. So tell me, what effects do race cars do to the environment? Please reply.

I'm sure more fuel gets burnt in an hour in new york than in an entire race weekend at formula 1.

Seemingly so, but he's actually got a bit of a point there. Take F1 - the engines are particularly efficient at realising every possible horsepower from every drop of fuel - they have extremely accurate fuel metering and injection systems. With their current traction control systems they're much more efficient at putting that power to the groung without wheelspin.

In terms of fuel burnt to produce horsepower, and getting that horsepower to the ground, yes I would say that they're very efficient.

Efficient in the sense that almost all the fuel is burned up. No wastage.

But they need lots of fuel to acieve that kind of power.

I guess a weird question would be... what about the efficiency of that Toyota Prius that rally races?
