RaceRoom: The Racing Experience General Discussion

I like this game it's got some great features, I just worry it'll get lost in a sea of racing titles. There are so many to choose from and more just around the corner.

For me it's the AI quality (at least in the newest experiences) which keeps me interested.

For some reason AC v1.0 suddenly has a couple of AI which zoom away from the field now and the rest of the field spreads out dramatically in a few laps, although AI willingness to actually fight you instead of giving up when you put a nose alongside has improved otherwise.
R3E ADAC 2014 or DTM 2014 is giving me close interesting racing where the AI is aware of me, drives a good pace with almost no weird behavior, and the field remains realistically tight and if you give the AI a sniff it'll go for the gap (and if you are aware of the AI and give it racing room it will take that room and not hit you). Makes for great fun battling once you find the appropriate AI difficulty and know the tracks enough yourself.

Yes, the AI can be mighty impressive. I had two long races in DTM 2014 this weekend that were incredible, better than some races I've had against real people. In one of them, over the last 5 laps I fought tooth and nail with the leader, never managed to make a pass stick and ended up finishing second, and I've never been so excited about losing. I just sat there with a huge smile on my face, simply astonished at what I had just experienced. I've been racing AI cars for nearly 15 years and I've never experienced anything remotely close to that.

I do notice a difference in AI between different packs though. DTM 2014 is incredible. I also have some of the vintage race cars and their AI can produce great racing, as does the DTM 92. But the WTCC AI are complete pushovers. Even if I start mid-pack I'm usually in the lead after a lap or two and end up winning by 30-60 seconds, driving an empty track for the last 3/4 of the race. So far I've only been racing with Adaptive AI, it's great with all the other cars but WTCC seems a bit wimpy. Shame, because those are probably my favorite cars to drive so far.

I find the same as you with the AC AI. In most races I'm in third place by the first or second turn, everyone behind me fades back more and more each lap and the two cars in front of me just get further and further away. After a few turns it basically just turns into a hot lapping session.

I still prefer RACE 07 over this. Got raceroom in August , put 4 hours into it, got RACE 07 on Friday put 8 hours in.

Just saw that. Chuffed! Not just the laser scanning but also the "new features, new content, new tech" part too. :D
not to mention the fact that it's Nordschleife.

It's going to be really fun to compare/constrast laser scanned Nordschleife in AC, R3E and possibly even iRacing during 2015 :)

Can't really agree with you there. I like RACE 07 too but it pretty dated in comparison to R3E. R3E not only looks better but the FFB is a LOT better. RACE 07 is cheaper though.

Its their system of 'buy the content you want'. That means if I want Laguna Seca, Corvette C6R and Corvette Racing livery, I have to buy all that, and for the price of that I could have RACE 07. Besides, if I want more RACE 07 content, MODS. I have no reason to reinstall R3E as RACE has all the cars and tracks I want that R3E doesn't. Besides I use DS4 so I dont care about FFB

As stated, RACE 07 is cheaper, if that's your motivation for "preferring" RACE 07 over R3E, likely nothing will change that until R3E is about 7 years old and can be picked up for $5 like RACE 07. DS4 huh? Oh dear.

Once you buy some of the content it starts getting cheaper and cheaper because you get discounts if you already own some content, or you buy a pack that has lots of content for much less than the individual price. I've spent around $60 so far (the price of one PS3 game) and have all the tracks except one, about 2 dozen cars, and two complete championship experiences. I've only been at it a few weeks and I've already got more smiles from that $60 than I did in a year of GT6. No, it's not as cheap as a 7 year old game, but if you do it right it's not really any more expensive than a Playstation game and it's a helluva lot cheaper than iRacing's ridiculous pay model.

And S3 often runs sales about every other month where you can get most of the content 50% off or more.

The reason I use DS4 is that i don't have the room for a wheel and a DS4 works across all games

Bought DTM experience 2013 the other day in the steam sales and started a championship. I won the race by .350 but on the standings i was 3rd even though my total time was less than the 2 infront? I didnt even have penalties on so is it a bug?

I have finally got this loaded on my Laptop (took two days for some reason) and am currently setting things up. Only thing I want to know is which is the one that changes camera view in the "Secondary Functions" Menu. I tend to drive with the Roof view and I like to toggle between views while watching replays.

I believe it's called Driver's View and you can map it to whichever button you prefer.

When a competition finishes are there anywhere to view final standings etc? I was 9th yesterday in the DTM Norisring competition and was hoping to get top 10 to win a prize but there's no final standings or confirmation?

Iv got it they've just posted a new competition and in the terms it says that winners of the previous comp are ineligible for the prize it then gives a link to the last competition confirming everyones results
