I attended the US GP of 1984 at Dallas, Texas. It was hotter than a pistol at 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
Poor Martin Brundle crashed his Tyrrell in practice and did himself serious injury. Warwick's Renault led early but wrecked. Lauda and Prost drove the smoothest and should have won, but both hit the wall and retired with flats or damaged suspension. Piquet stuffed his Brabham into a slot in the wall right in front of me. Mansell in his Lotus made it to within yards of the finish, but collapsed in a heap beside his car while trying foolishly to push it over the line in the Texas sun. Rosberg (Williams) kept his cool and was the winner.
