Fords SOHC 427 got banned from NASCAR because Chrysler whined after their 426 Hemi repeatedly got destroyed.

Ford also had a prototype 289 Windsor converted to SOHC.

And Chrysler got 2 cars banned from NASCAR ('69 Daytona and '70 Superbird) after the Ford boys were whining about the aerodynamic advantage that the Mopars had.

True but ford could have remedied that by messing with the Torino.

Then again it was fords way of getting back at Chrysler haha.

Is this the Random Car Facts thread or Random Ford Facts thread?

I just happen to post the first random fact that pops in my head bit just happens to be ford related. Fair point though. Ill ease up.

The Dodge Charger Daytona and Plymouth Superbird were the first 2 cars in NASCAR that were able to reach 200mph.

Chrysler made the Dodge Viper originally to be their own modern interpretation of the Shelby Cobra.

Shelby himself was involved in the early stages of the design of the viper. Not many people know that.

Makes perfect sense. Like what Custom878 said, Shelby was involved with Chrysler around that time period and there were some cool creations coming out of that team up. My favorite is the Shelby Dakota.

Just don't refer to me by name.

Pathetic attempt to stay on topic:

The 1973 "Eleanor" Mustang from Gone in 60 Seconds still runs.

Thy used a lot of cars for that movie lol. I wouldn't doubt it still runs though. Take care of those motors and they last forever.

That sounds mildly dangerous...

But really cool and strange too. I would love to have 4WD and RWD in an R32.

Nope not dangerous at all, I installed a switch with the fuse inline on the fuse box of my friends R32 GTR so he can have RWD or 4WD at the flick of a switch. RWD was nice in a 400bhp GTR :sly:

I saw a video of a guy removing the fuse. That's pretty badass.
