Honda Logo TS: 50/100

Fun hatchback, can't really call it a Kei, because it's not that slow either. Looks okay, moreso when RMed. The gearbox is...well....quite funny to start with. Only 2 gears, with 1st gear very short and 2nd gear only reaches up to 5000-something rpm. But when you tune this car and give it a racing tranny this is where it's true performance can really shine. Drives like a hot hatchback should; it's more like a tamer version of the Clio Sport. Another car I have in my garage because of its novelty value.

60/100 i love the little subaru kei cars , nice and nippy with 4WD

Next Car : Dihatsu Mira TR-XX 4WD (Or whatever there called )

You mean the Renault Espace F1?

Renault Espace F1: 90/100

A van that can beat 90% of the cars in the game, plus a great sounding, high-revving Renault Formula 1 engine. What more can you want? Looks a bit ricey however, with that gold paint, huge air scoops and wing. And definitely not a car for beginners due to its MR layout.

Next Car: Citroen Xsara Rally Car

You mean the Viper Oreca, Taisan, and GTS-R?

Does this mean that the Renault F1 engine is based on a Viper engine that's tuned for high rpms? Or does PD failed to record the sound properly? Or is it because F1 engines don't go below 8000rpms and PD had to made up the engine sound below 8000rpms?

Yep :)

Nope, as far as I know, the F1 engines in r/l are made from scratch.
Or is it because F1 engines don't go below 8000rpms and PD had to made up the engine sound below 8000rpms?
They do, why not; all the engine sounds in GT2 can be "tuned" to rev up to 32,000 RPM (see my "Touring car kit" topic) so even if they didn't PD wouldn't need to copypaste any other engine sound ^^
Or did PD fail to record the sound properly?
Yep, you guessed it ;)

Citroen Xsara Rally Car: 93/100
To be honest, never used it as a rally car - I found its cornering speeds, peaky NA engine and the sound it makes more appropriate for the track battles rather than dirt trials :) Love it anyway. 7 points off for...uh... well, it doesn't deserve 100 anyway, does it? :)

Next car: Levin/Trueno '83 (the one that seems to get supercharged (judging by the sound) after applying the "Turbo Stage II" mod)

Haha that explains it . Still, after all these years of playing, I haven't noticed this, I'll try to listen and see if I can hear the similarity.

1983 Toyotas: 84/100

A better-looking RM scheme (to me) than the 1985 cars, which are otherwise identical in the game, save possibly wheel trims. Excellent drivers, and very inconspicuous stock. Of course, it is dated, but the drive is timeless.

Next Cars: 1985 Toyotas (Levin and Trueno)

No, there isn't any difference in terms of performance, but there's slight differences in exterior design. The rims and rear-ends are the most noticeable.

Wonder which version (83 or 85) is in Initial D?

The Cobra is a better car than given credit for.

Subaru SVX: 93/100 in life, 85/100 in GT2, 73/100 in GT1. But, GT2 for now.

A fine car, but more startling than the game will ever indicate. It looks downright tame in GT2.

Next Car: Fiat Punto

Fiat Punto GT: 74/100
An okay FF car, can be nimble and fast for its power after some tuning, funny V8 noise from the racing mufflers. I didn't find anything special about it, though.

Next car: Toyota MR-S

90/100
Very good car , great handling but a little underpowered but can be tuned to give 400 and with its mr layout and lightweight body its a quick littlee car

next car : subaru rex/vivio

Subaru Vivio: 71/100
A funny, oversteering car, also a classic Kei - nimble and quick when well tuned. But I'm not a big fan of them :)

Next car: Skyline R32 GTS25 Type-S (the NA one)

60/100 good car to start the game with
170hp is quick enough for a first plus its rwd and its handling is ok

next car
Mazda Autozam Az1

Mazda AZ-1: 87/100

Excellent little cars, and a good way to get started into MR driving. The packaging is certainly unique, and a very different change from typical kei cars. No racing modification, though...

HA! Honda Beat....this should be easy.

Really skittery in those corners if I remember correct. Lots of countersteer needed at times when you wouldn't need any in many other cars. Kei-car power...so it starts off with poor acceleration and all that. And then, the upgrades SUCK. I believe there's just an NA kit or a turbo kit to choose from....either way, you won't be pushing 120 hp.

But it's kinda cool-looking. Challenging to drive...but sorry, I gotta rate it low. Beginners will buy it cuz it looks cool, pros will quickly realize its lacks and move on.

28/100

next victim: '95 Nissan 300ZX Turbo (used car lot)

Victim is right! 42/100

The new cars are better; this one is just heavy. Its high power and racing midifications are still good features, though, but looks a bit bulbous and inefficient.

Next Car: Nissan 240SX

Top Gear once proved in a 1/5 mile drag race that the 300ZX is faster than the 350Z, and that says something about this big, heavy car.

Nissan 240SX: 50/100

Okayish car for beginners, but once you're deep into the game there's not much reason to drive it. Still an able car though, and a good drifting car as well.

Next Car: Tom's T111 (yellow tuned Trueno/Levin BZ-G)

Tom's T111: quite heavy, underpowered, front-wheel drive, yellow. Don't like it.

Same 50/100.

Next car: Mugen CR-X II (not the del Sol)

The Mugen Civic CRX II is a prize that looks kinda cool & different from regular Civics, but it doesn't get much chance to shine. Oddly, 205 horsepower is the most it'll accept. So there's a few races you can take it to, but eventually it gets left in the garage while something like the '93 Civic or the Civic Type R gets more racing-time.

I mean, I remember trying really hard to see what I could use my CRXs (both the Mugen and used versions) in so far as races go, but it just doesn't get the upgrades & power other Civics get. Plus, you can't attach a race-kit to the Mugen CRX

So 14 / 100 for that one.

Let's go with the '99 Weds Sport Celica next. This is a prize, also.,

Agh! But actually, not that bad. 73/100

A real oddity, with 394hp and FF... not very good, considering weight, but its handling is still fairly stable. It doesn't look that bad either. It has a bad rap that it does not deserve, but far from an award winner.

Next Car: Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-C

Mazdaspeed RX-7 GT-C: 80/100

Amazing modified version of an already amazing car. That rotary engine just does the job everytime. Can be tuned to 600+ horsepower too. Too bad it can't accept a racing mod. And the handling is pretty hard to control without proper setups.

Next Car: Mugen Accord Wagon

Next Car: Mugen Accord Wagon

The Mugen Accord (again) is better than a "regular" '96 Accord Wagon when stock, but the regular wagon winds up being a better buy in the long run.

For instance, the Mugen starts with more power (200 hp) than the regular (187 hp) one, and the Mugen accepts about the same power as the regular wagon in upgrades. The problem is the Mugen won't accept a race-kit, yet the regular wagon will. The Mugen winds up weighing more, too, so you can take the regular Wagon to the Super Touring races, for instance, with more success than the Mugen Wagon will have.
\
...and you can't get an Accord Wagon in as many colors as a regular one (or an SiR version). You can only win the Mugen as a prize.

The Mugen is supposed to be slightly better when stock. Like it rides lower than regualar Accord Wagons (5.9" versus 6.3") and the Mugen also has stiffer spring rates when stock. (5.2 kg/mm up front and 3.0 in the back versus 3.7 and 1.4 for the regular wagon). But in the long run, it just isn't as useful.

34 out of 100

Next car: '98 Accord Wagon SiR (new car lot)
