Chrysler Corporation's "Forward Look" began for the 1955 model year across all brands. The cars represented an optimistic future and were styled to be the sleekest and most modern amongst the competition's offerings from Ford and General Motors. The man responsible for designing these cars was Virgil Exner. Chrysler Corp. spent the next two years completely retooling and changing the cars for the 1957 model year. $300 million later, the new 1957 "Flite Sweep" cars were introduced in October, 1956. The cars' styling were radically different from the 1957 GMs and Fords. The cars were longer, lower, wider, had streamlined rooflines, and tall tailfins.
Plymouth for 1957 and 1958 was dubbed the "Star of the Forward Look". Plymouth being part of the low priced field competed with Chevrolet and Ford. The advanced styling of the new low priced Plymouths was revolutionary among the American automakers. The effect of the new Plymouth sent shock waves through the styling halls of both GM and Ford. One story told of GM styling boss Harley Earl walking into the office of Chevrolet exterior designer C.J. MacKichan, throwing a 1957 Plymouth catalog on his desk and asking bitterly, "Why don't you quit?"
1957 was the first year for Chrysler Corporation's Torsion Aire suspension system. Replacing the coil spring setup in the front, torsion bars with ball-joint steeling was standard on all Mopars. With this new suspension system, the cars' handling changed for the better making them handling superior to any other full-size car offered at the time. Motor Trend went one step further and named Plymouth the best handling car in the country-eventually awarding the 1957 Motor Trend Car Of The Year Award to Chrysler Corporation's five divisions based on "Superior Handling and Roadability Qualities."
The 1957-59 Plymouths were available in many trim levels and body styles such as the economical Savoy, Suburban station wagon, and the sporty Fury. The cars were facelifted slightly in 1958 with the biggest visual change being the addition of quad headlights. 1959 was restyled again and would be the last year of body-on-frame construction before the unibody Chryslers of 1960.
The 1957 Plymouth is an example of when imagination ruled car design. Virgil Exner single handedly changed American automotive design and led the competition to create cars like the radical 1959 Cadillac as well as the theme of longer, lower, wider in the decades to come.​

I mean this one in particular, since it was the most famous K3 of all. Though the other K3s with different liveries, also had several victories.

Yeah, they'd be separate polls, its just that Im concerned about doing such similar cars right next to each other. Its not a big thing really, Ill still poll both if you want.

Introduced on November 2, 1935, as a 1936 model, the Lincoln-Zephyr was a bridge between the Ford V8 and the Lincoln Model K. The Zephyr's styling was extremely modern with a low raked windscreen, integrated fenders, and streamlined aerodynamic design. It was one of the first successful mass produced streamlined cars after the unfortunate sales of the Chrysler Airflow. In fact, the Zephyr had a lower drag coefficient than the Airflow.
The car was designed by Eugene Turrene Gregorie who worked with Edsel Ford. Gregorie took inspiration from the 1934 Pioneer Zephyr Streamliner train. In it's first year, Lincoln sold 15,000 Zephyrs which accounted for 80% of their sales. By 1940, Lincoln would discontinue the Model K and by 1941 the Lincoln models were Zephyr based including the brand new Lincoln Continental. The Zephyr name was dropped after WWII. It's name wouldn't be revived until Lincoln released the 2006 MKZ.

Since I've gotten a bit tired of nominating classics (Not that there's anything wrong with them!), I decided that going forward I'll keep one of my nominations on the queue an old car and one of them a new car. Lately the wall's been pretty dominated with older cars. And also race cars. Seriously, I don't want to ban race cars again, I personally love polling them (and maybe got one or two of my own I'd like to nominate eventually), but they do bring in less votes than road cars do, so maybe cut back on them a little bit, at least until I can rack up participation a bit more. The first noticeable design change for the Volkswagen Beetle began in March of 1953. The two-piece split rear window was replaced with a one piece curved glass giving this era of Bugs the nickname 'Oval Window'. By this time VW was producing over 100,000 cars annually.
In 1954, the engine's displacement increased from 1131 to 1192cc and horsepower increased to 36 allowing the car to cruise at a higher top speed. Annual changes were just the beginning. The one millionth Beetle was built in 1955 and Volkswagen was exporting in almost eighty countries. By 1956, VW accounted for 65% of all imported cars in the United States and sold over 50,000 in 1957. VW's advertisements and brochures of the 1950s really emphasized the car's curves and lines promoting the idea that it's European styling was "attractive and state of the art".
"There is no longer any doubt about it," said Road & Track in October 1956. "Dr. Ferdinand Porsche's little 'people's car' has done what no other [import] has ever been able to do: it has gained an unmistakable wheel-hold in the garages and hearts of the American car-buying public . . . . The only mystery is: how did it happen? Especially with practically no national advertising? Of the various explanations, probably the simplest is that the Volkswagen fulfills a need which Detroit had forgotten . . . a car that is cheap to buy and run, small and compact, light and maneuverable yet solidly constructed, and perhaps above all, utterly dependable and trouble-free."
The fifties oval era Beetle has been a very sought after VW in the recent years.

Additional Information: The difficult second album of exported Civic Type R models. On the plus side though it was based on the 8th generation Civic with fancy triangular exhausts, funky door handles and a well laid-out yet still futuristic interior.
