Chapter 11 - Reunion
“This is the place.”
”Thanks Yuka.”
”What you after from him anyway? The Vitz?”
”Yeah, I was hoping to do some kind of deal with him…”
“Alright, see you around.”
”See you.”
Dave got out and walked into TJ’s garage. Yuka headed off home. TJ was working on the R33 Yuka sold to him. Dave walked up to the car.
“Hey, er… I’m Dave. Are you busy? I need to talk to you about a red Vitz.”
TJ rolled out from under the R33.
”Sorry if I’m bothering you, er… I don’t know your name sorry.”
”I’m not busy. I’m just doing some maintenance on my car. I’m TJ by the way.”
”Oh I see. Well TJ, I understand that you’ve got a red Vitz in your possession.”
”I’m lending it out at the moment, why?”
“I know, I’ve met the driver. I’m the original owner.”
”Ah. Now I get it. Well if you want it back you’ll have to pay.”
”I’m not exactly loaded at the moment…”
“Earn your car then.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
”Do you know how to do basic maintenance?”
“Well, yeah.”
TJ picked up some overalls and tossed them at Dave.
“There’s an Evo out back that needs an oil change. You work for me now.”
“How long until I earn my Vitz?”
“Wait and see.”
Later on…
Kei was flicking through an Auto Trader when Yuka walked in.
“Hey Kei.”
”Yuka! Is it good or bad when a car has a yellow number plate? Most cars have white number plates but there’s a few cars with yellow in here.”
“Yellow number plates are issued to Kei-class cars. It’s just a way of telling them apart to normal cars.”
”Kei-class? That’s funny! So are Kei cars better or worse than normal cars?”
”Haha Kei. They’re smaller and less powerful, but are easier to drive around town. They’re also cheaper to tax and insure. It’s good if you live in a city and don’t care much about what you drive.”
”Oh I see. Maybe I should buy one just so I can have a car that’s named after me!”
“Maybe, but you don’t even have a licence, Kei.”
”True. You think I should get one?”
“If you can afford it. Besides you don’t just get one, you have to practice and take a test before you can get a licence.”
“Can you teach me then, Yuka?”
”I can’t teach you on public roads, I’m not old enough yet.”
”Didn’t your dad take you around the block and stuff?”
“Yeah, but Gion isn’t really ideal for it.”
”True. Oh well I’ll save some money up and hire an instructor!”
“Yeah you’ll be better off. Who knows what’ll happen if I teach you!”
Meanwhile, at TJ’s…
“I changed the oil on that Evo, TJ.”
“Great. Did you see the Impreza behind it?”
”The red one? Yeah.”
”Change the oil on that one too.”
“Seriously?”
”You want your Vitz right?”
Dave grumbled and followed TJ’s orders.
“We’ll be together soon, Vitz…”
Two weeks later…
“I’ve finally got you back, Vitz!”
“I’ll never lose you again!”
“You’ll be the fastest Vitz once I’ve got the money to spend!”
“It’s so good to be cruising down route 7 at 170 again!”
“What the hell?! Where did that come from?!”
“That speed… Amazing, I didn’t even see them coming! Who is driving that thing?“
